I've been going to the Caribe Hilton since the 1980s, drawn to its convenience on US soil, its Caribbean climate, its private beach with snorkeling, and the banana bread.
The slices of banana bread are smaller than they were in the 1980s, but they are still good. The beach and location are still very private, and the hotel is a well run business/convention hotel. In addition to the convention center, though, there is a private garden, and the beach and pool. So it is attractive in a way that many other San Juan hotels aren't.
As a Hilton Honors member, I was upgraded to a beautiful room with a view. Had I been a gold member, I would have gotten a free breakfast, and more benefits.
It's worth it to join Honors, for the upgrades. It was relatively a last minute trip, but I still got a good price.More
