“another great marriott property!”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

This hotel is in a great location located right on the beach. Highly recommend it if you are coming in early on a cruise, great bars, restuarants and a casino on property. They have a great prime rib buffet on saturday nights which has a pasta station and crab legs to boot. Their breakfast buffet comes with mimosa's what's better than that. Two pools, one with a swim up bar, they get a lot of shade in the afternoon but there is plenty of sunshine on the beach!

The staff at this hotel was very friendly and always willing to help especially the concierge. Recommend tours like the zip line and renting jet skis but that is best on the North island beach just a 10 minute ride away. Getting a cab was a snap with the great staff always available at the front entrance. This trip was for business and some personal vacation. Very fast elevators!

Visit Old San Jaun and the old forts while in San Jaun.

Room Tip: Our room was on the forth floor corner looking toward the pool area. During the day it was noisy wi...

The hotel is in a great location, right on the beach and with tons of restaurants in walking distance. Has a great fitness center. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room we had was spacious enough for the three of us and was ocean-view. We booked the hotel as part of a Marriott Vacations package and thus prepaid for everything. The problem was that the hotel placed several holds on our credit card, supposedly for incidentals, which totaled nearly $3,000. Luckily we had a high enough credit line that we were still able to use the card at other places but I can see where this would be a huge problem for some people. I asked at the front desk about this midway through our stay and was assured that the holds would be deleted but one of them for nearly $1400 actually did result in a charge to my credit card. I had to contact Marriott to have it removed and they were very nice about it, but I still didn't think there was any excuse for that mistake, particularly since I had tried to head it off while I was in the hotel.

BACKGROUND: I was celebrating my 50th birthday and was never in San Juan, previously. My wife visited San Juan 25 or so years ago and was not impressed. After watching a Travel Channel “marathon” last year (2012), I told my wife I wanted to go to San Juan for my 50th because I had never been there and it looked like San Juan had so much history and good food and that I just think times have changed since she was there. We both came away impressed…

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Easy $15 and 10 minute cab ride from the airport and $15 and 15 minute cab ride to Old San Juan. Rum punch on arrival. Warm ocean breezes. Great location. Walgreen’s one block to the right. Dunkin Donuts two blocks to the right. While the drinks are good at the hotel bar and pool and beach bars, take a walk down the beach to the Atlantic Hotel for their $10 fish tacos and $3 Medalla beers!

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS: What’s not to like. We like the shade so we were happy, but there is enough sun for everyone. The beach umbrella guys are helpful and friendly and when it’s included in your resort fee take advantage of it!!! If a picture worth a thousand words, I’ll let our finish our review!!! WE LOVED IT!!!

Very, very, very nice hotel. The staff --at every level-- could not be more friendly and welcoming. The location is terrific; there are several nice restaurants within a 10-minute walk, and Old San Juan is maybe 15 minutes away by cab (around a $20 taxi fare, including tip) (unless you're lucky enough to catch one of the very infrequent public buses--and then be sure to have 75 cents exact change per person; no dollar bills accepted). The coffee bar in the lobby is a nice place to catch a quick breakfast. Our room was very nice, although since we were separated from the next room by a door, we did have some sound issues from the noisy people next door. We had to call security once, and they responded within 10-15 minutes. If I return to Puerto Rico, this is the place I would want to stay at again.

A group of 18 of us stayed here in 6 rooms. This hotel is excellent! The location is great, the staff is fantastic, and the beach is amazing! There are many restaurants, clubs, and bars within walking distance. I will definitely return here.

well appointed hotel. the grounds are immaculate, much of what others have said are true.

there is about 50% sun at the pool area. we didn't spend much time at the pool but when we did, there wasn't a problem finding a sunny spot. the pool isn't heated, this didn't bother me much, but it did for my bf. the jacuzzi seemed a bit small.

there's a mix of ages here too. but never noticed a disproportionate amount of any, read: kids were well behaved. the waterslide is open 11-4. there was construction at the hotel next door that can mostly be heard from the pool area, so that may bother some.

there are outdoor showers that are handy to get the sand off. there's a towel/recreation hut near the pool. you can ask for as many towels as you like.

the beach is a decent size, everyone is placed directly in front of the property. your chairs/table/umbrella are brought to the spot of your choice. there was very low music playing that i think was coming from the pool area, maybe to help drown out the construction noise.

there isn't much beach to take a walk on, which i like to do. maybe 1/16th of a mile. we had amazing sunny weather. went swimming, well stood in the rough waters nearly every day. not easy to swim. perfect for a boogie boarders. the last day lots of brown seaweed washed up so nobody was in the water. the winds blew pretty heavy most days too, which i could have lived without.

the staff, nearly 95% were very friendly, courteous and sincere. it really says a lot about a property for me. mr. marriott arrived to shake all their hands the week we were there, so maybe they were practicing.

we ate at la vista a few mornings, $25pp. sonny and jose were exemplary. the food selection was very good, fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, mini muffins, croissants and pastries, breads, bagels, english muffins, jams, crepes, sauteed potatoes and peppers, bacon, sausage and oatmeal. i was confused because even though you order the buffet, you have to tell the waiter the type of waffles, pancakes and eggs you want. have a mimosa, they're complimentary and unlimited and made with quality champagne!

the room was not overly large. we had a king with a chair and desk. the bathroom was nice and roomy. i rarely have issues with beds, so i'm not a good judge of them, seemed firm enough. balcony had two chairs and table, overlooked both the beach and the pool which allowed us to see the sunset.

had to ask about yoga classes, which are at 8:30 am and not every day. didn't see anything posted.

casino is small, but was a fun way to spend an hour or two before/aft the night. there's a dance floor behind the bar that had great bands playing. one on a sunday and another on tuesday. again, didn't see anything advertised.

thanks to all those who have written as it helped us plan our trip.

Room Tip: face the pool and beach if you want to see the sunset, well not entirely, but it provides a pretty v...
