Owner description: A small 18th-century chapel with a fascinating history.
Reviewed August 17, 2013

The Chapel of Christ the Saviour (Capilla del Santo Cristo de la Salud) is one of the must see in Old San Juan. FIlled with history and legends, it is one of the most emblematic monuments in this historical city. If you are lucky enough, you might be able to visit a day when the chapel is open and will appreciate up close the silver-covered altar.

This is a very small chapel with a lot of history inside it. I really loved the setting overlooking the bay.

This place is a gem. Been local I feel greatly proud of this place and my heritage. Lots of history. Beautiful chapel near a pigeon park. Great area for families in the Old San Juan

Beautiful little chapel but they do not let you go in, and there is no one to explain any of the history. And there is a bronzed pair of baby shoes on the side in the back with no explanation of why. It just would be nice if there was more info.

It’s kind of nice to know this chapel was built to celebrate a local miracle – the story goes like this - a youth, a horse race, a precipice and an accident. A local dignitary prayed to Christ for the youths' recovery and prayers were answered. The saved youth then erected this Chapel as thanks and what's left is a visual reminder of faith.

Found at Calle del Cristo near Paso de la Princessa, we simply could not miss this landmark while walking the old town. A cute and busy sidewalk café sits adjacent and it’s a picturesque spot to absorb the street atmosphere and the uniqueness of this Chapel.

Enjoy your experience!
