If you want to escape the crowds at the resort pools, Palomino Island is a great way to do it. The Island is beautiful and only a 20 minute boat ride from the resort. The waters and warm and clear and they offer a number of activities at a fair price. We decided to paddleboard and had a blast exploring the islands coastline and getting a workout at the same time. The on-island restaurant serves simple but good food and cold drinks.

For sailors in the area, don't miss this wonderful stop. On the southwest end of the island are about 15 public mooring balls, which are free, but popular. The snorkeling at that end of the island is very good, better than Icacos, which is where we came from. The white sand beach is at the southeast end of the island, and is one of the most beautiful beaches in the area. There is a small island to the east, which is where filmmakers shoot often. And rightly so, for the beauty of these Spanish Virgin Islands.

Being able to ride the ferry from El Conquistador resort to Palomino Island for free was the best part of staying at the resort. The beaches face two directions and one side was warm, while the other side was windier and cooler. There is food available and spaces to play volleyball and soccer. We hiked up the hill and had great views of the ocean and other islands. We were there on weekdays and it wasn't difficult to find empty chairs and shade. This is a "must do" if you stay at El Conquistador resort!
