“Short fun tour”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

This tour meets all the requirements that my sister's has for any tour - it must not be over 20 minutes, be interesting, and somewhere there needs to be a garden. Our tour guide was a cute, charming girl who had a particular dislike of a mango tree that successfully dropped mangos on her head. The tour is only of the first floor and shows you the original fort built for San Juan. It is an interesting contrast to those of El Morro and Cristobal. There are times for an English lead tour versus Spanish. So make sure you schedule the right one.

“Seeing the sites”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

This was a stop on our Segway tour and it is very nice. I recommend taking that Segway tour with a guide to tell all the history of this site.

“Architecturally stunning....”
Reviewed May 25, 2013

This beautiful blue/white Governors’ residence is also called ‘La Fortaleza’ (the fortress) and is included in UNESCO’s portfolio of heritage sites. It’s hard to imagine looking at this architecturally stunning building that it was initially built as a defence system for San Juan. What’s visible now is the remodeled, neoclassical Governors Mansion instead of a military structure and the oldest, continuing administrative building in the Western world.

Located at the northern end of Fortaleza Street there are several daily, guided tours in both English/Spanish (not self- guided) that may include the mansion’s Moorish gardens, the dungeon and the chapel. There is $3.00 p/p fee (some suggest it’s free) - ring ahead or check about availability Mon-Fri. We tried after 3:45pm and missed the opportunity to visit (also need to dress in 'appropriate' attire if you are just there on the off chance) – a rear view of the building can be seen from San Juan Bay.

Enjoy your experience!

“Picture perfect!”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

This is the governor's house in PR. Is located in Old SJ close to Capilla del Cristo and el Morro. Places that can't be missed if you are visiting the island.
