“Combine with the other Fort”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Go between the two forts and you will really get a feel for the historical significance of your location. The walk around the exterior of Old San Juan through the old city gates, and past the beautiful fountains. It is not to be missed

“Nice little tour, beautiful views, gardens, dungeons!”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

There was a 10 am tour in English. Because this is a government building where the PR Governor lives, we had to fill out paperwork, disclaimers, etc. Not a hassle but good to get there a few minutes early. The tour was about 30 minutes and very interesting and beautiful. During xmas week there was a light show on the Fortalenza facade every 20 minutes. Since its in the center of the touring and shopping areas it's easy to enjoy this bit of history while you're in San Juan Viejo.

“easy history lesson”
Reviewed December 17, 2012

The guide at the Governor's Palace is terrific -- enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable (there wasn't a question she couldn't answer). You don't actually go inside (it is, afterall, the governor's home and office) but stroll all around the grounds and enjoy the many vistas. And what you'll learn sets you up for your entire stay. PR has so much history that, with this intro, you can easily piece it all together as you explore other venues.

“Great views, some duplication with El Morro”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

A cool place to visit, as you enter through one of the underground tunnels that soldiers used while it was in operation. There were many such tunnels, including one that actually led all the way to El Morro. There is a section about the history of San Juan that is duplicated in both places, but the one at this site is more complete.

“Stunningly Beautiful”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

This was once an old fort that has gone through a lot of transitions over the centuries to become the home of the governor, but it retains all of the qualities and characteristics of each period of its history. From a dungeon to the towers, this is a uniquely beautiful and almost emotional place to visit.
