“Tres Palmas Inn”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

Staid here for a night on a layover, seemed like more fun than remaining at the airport.

The inn appeared to be very well kept. There were lots of nice spaces for hanging out. Our room had a view of the ocean, which was nice, and despite the road between the inn and the beach and it being Friday evening, it was quiet, for the most part. Thanks to the high ceiling in the room, we didn't even need to turn on the air conditioning.

The neighborhood was pleasant, and there were several restaurants within walking distance. There were also a lot of gates and barbed wire. The beach wasn't very wide, but clean, and nice to stroll (or cycle) along. Too bad there's no decent public transport to get to the old town.

Breakfast was fine, but could be better. The wireless Internet worked well, and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

The taxi ride from and to the airport took us about 10 min (no traffic) and cost a bit under $20 each way.

Right on the beach, and an easy walk to a variety of restaurants. Nice breakfast and amenities, including beach chairs, hammocks, hot tubs and pool. Friendly and helpful staff. An excellent value, which is unusual in San Juan when it comes to accommodations.

Room Tip: Beachfront rooms are on the streets with some traffic noise, but worth the view and convenience.

We stayed 3 weeks in Puerto Rico.. we needed a night in San Juan before flying out in the morning.. We like small guest type Inns and want to be on the Ocean (not one off looking at roof).. although our room did not have an Ocean View, It was quiet and the staff was helpful. It has a small pool and a Hot Tub on the top floor.. you can even BBQ if you want jon the very nice Stainless steel BBQ.. The secuirty we felt there was important. Our room (#3) had one small window but it didn't matter because the Bed was VERY comfortable .. This Inn looks like a Spanish Villa in its style and landscape... It is only a walk within a couple blocks for places to eat.. Had a cocktail at "The Garden" which is a short walk away, It has an outside patio, music (on the Jazz side) was pleasant.. The food at "The Garden" is prepared with flair (meaning not fryed).. it was great. We would go back to this place again.

I only stayed for one night but thoroughly enjoyed my stay. It was very quiet and the staff was extremely helpful with directions and information. I booked a room by the pool which I enjoyed. The location is away from all the congested area but not too far if you want to visit. The beach is right across the street and the have a great rooftop area to enjoy the view. It is clean and has all the basic necessities you need. . .I even saw a rainbow when I was there!

Tres Palmas Inn in San Juan is at a lovely location (residential Ocean Park section of San Juan) in which to relax and watch or swim in the ocean. The Inn is easily reached in just a few minutes from the airport ($18 taxi ride). A small but nicely-landscaped pool, two hot tubs, hammocks strung between trees, and beach chairs are available for guests. The Inn serves a nice “basic-plus” breakfast in a delightful, open-air but covered arcade with a view of the ocean.

The front-desk assistance was excellent, both in friendliness and helpfulness.

Our room, (to which we were “upgraded”) “OS” on the second floor, had a king bed, and a tiny but usable kitchen with mini-fridge, microwave, and two-burner cooktop, as well as utensils and dishware. A little balcony overlooking the ocean added to the delight.
Of course, not all rooms are so situated.

It isn’t the fault of any of the people working there that the Inn is, really, in “the middle of nowhere”. The nearest restaurants (six – eight blocks away, which can be walked) or variety store are a $10 (one-way) taxi ride away; Old San Juan and most of the tourist spots are a $15-20 one-way ride. (Be sure to confirm the cost before getting into the taxi.)

Overall, our experience was very enjoyable.

Would we return? If we wanted a few days to “veg”, listen to the ocean, dip in the pool, and laze in a hammock – definitely yes!
If we wanted nightlife or tourist-y things to do, I’d be sure that our hotel was better-located for these sights. It might be more expensive, but then, the $20 – $60 additional per day for taxis from Tres Palmas would be a real consideration.

Before I booked our trip to Puerto Rico I looked through many pages on Trip Advisor for reviews about the Tres Palmas Inn.... I saw that they had very good reviews so I booked Room 15 for our Dec stay..... Well.... the good reviews didn't even come close to the experience we had there..... The front desk staff is sooooo accomodating (especially Jennifer and Helen.... or as my husband nicknamed them Jenelle......) We had so many questions regarding renting a car.... local sights and restaurants... beaches..... and the staff went above and beyond to help us in every single way that they could.... our safe wasn't working in our room and the owner Edwin even came over to help us out with that..... He is a very hands on owner and it definitely shows..... and don't get me started on the views.... the pictures don't even do them justice... you'll just have to see for yourself how beautiful this place really is... We WILL be back!

Room Tip: Room 15 has an amazing view!!

This is a very friendly, comfortable, clean and well appointed inn located in the middle of a good area to walk around with a beautiful beach view. All of the staff is incredibly friendly and will go out of their way to help you with plans, restaurants, and activities. The included breakfast is perfect for the normal American diet, while we are protein only eaters and still enjoyed their eggs).
All in all, I would gladly go back to this Inn and highly recommend it. Not trying to be a luxury hotel, but offers bikes, boards, chairs, very comfortable rooms, and the same views as hotels costing more than double. Can't be beat!!

Room Tip: Choose a room that shows the beach and ocean..rm15!
