We enjoyed the pool, the beach access, the balcony dining area, the comfortable and clean rooms, the ice machine, the crabs, plus the on site breakfast. The neighborhood felt very safe, even though the gates on the surrounding streets are locked each night and made our trips home from the grocery store interesting at times. We parked on the street in front of the hotel each night with no problem. The only downfall for us was location. We felt far from restaurants and, even though Old San Juan was not far, we regretted each time we drove there through town and not on the highway. We opted to eat simple meals at the hotel each night with our finds from the grocery store.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room with two double beds by the pool. It was a perfect size.

We stayed at Tres Palmas from 16 June through 29 June, with an exception of 2 days that we spent in Ponce. The room had a kitchen, a large bedroom with two double beds, and a bathroom. It had an air conditioner that worked great, a TV with a wide channel selection, and the kitchen had dishes and silverware. The inn has two wifi access points, which allowed us access no matter where we were on the premises. The staff was always friendly and helpful, and the room was always cleaned thoroughly. We had a small billing issue that was corrected right away and without malcontent. The location was excellent. We were only a few steps from the beach; it was literally right across the street...and not a busy street either. There are two hammocks in the front that offered a cozy place to relax at the end of the day, and the breakfast in the morning was pretty sufficient. Let me not forget to mention the pool and the two rooftop jacuzzis. Wow. I couldnt have asked for a better place to stay in San Juan, and for a reasonable price. Highly recommended. -Miguel, Odalys and Nieki.

We had a wonderful experienced! The property is delightful; the rooms are clean, comfortable and is literally ten steps from the beach, amazing! They have a nice pool, and a terrace with two Jacuzzis facing the ocean. From the minute, we arrived to the moment we left; the whole staff was very amiable and accommodating. I would definitely go back to PR and Tres palmas!

Room Tip: Try and get over to Condado for dinner.... we had a great time

We stayed at Tres Palmas for 5 nights. We stayed in number 9. It is pretty small, but always kept clean and the a/c was heaven. The property is so beautiful with so many trees and flowers and kept extremely clean. The housekeeping staff was extremely good and very friendly. Our 18 month old son fell in love with the ladies and followed them around. So kind. Marlena and Kimberly were the best of all. Called taxis, took photos, engaged in conversation, really first-rate. Eddie has a great staff and he was wonderful too. The pool is perfect and shaded most of the day which was great for our little boy. The beach is right across the street! Not close to Old San Juan or very many historical sites. Breakfast is simple, but good and it was great to eat outside, swing in the hammocks, chase lizards, and just live outdoors. There is a decent amount of noise during the night, with frogs and birds and traffic. We had a white noise machine which solved that for us :) This is a good place if you want a BEACH holiday.........sunning and swimming and sleeping. If you want to SEE sites, stay in an apartment in Old San Juan and save yourself the trouble of taxis and cars.

Room Tip: 9 is small and simple and near the back of the property and the A/C works like a cool dream.

We stayed here for 9 days and we were less than satisfied with the experience. I'll list everything that went wrong in order of importance:

1) Lots of bugs - they were eating us alive at night. My fiance had a total of 60 bug bites over the span of two nights. I am not exaggerating - we counted them. We weren't sure where they were coming from, although we suspected they were either bed bugs or ants. The little ants were running rampant in the room and you could see them running up the wall. We wanted to make sure we weren't getting the bites from the outside so we counted and went to bed. When we woke up we had significantly more than when we fell asleep. After complaining to management they said they would send somebody to take care of it. Apparently they sent someone and they "looked around and didn't see anything wrong" so they didn't do anything. We were furious. Talked to management again. They said it was the chemicals in the bed sheets. These were CLEAR bug bites with a center like you would expect - not a rash or allergic reaction from chemicals - it was sad they were trying to wash their hands by blaming the detergent they used. Next day - this time they promised they fumigated the whole place. So we took the manager to inspect the place - I immediately noticed an ant crawling on the wall - he just said "oh that's normal".

2) Bad management - after our horrible experience with the bugs, we wanted another room. We met resistance from management, the guy told us to give the room another try. We practically had to fight for getting another room. They gave in and let us move to another room - this is the only reason the review has 2 stars instead of 1. The new room was abundant in mosquitoes and we were still getting 1-2 bites a night, but at this point we were just happy not to be getting dozens of bites every night.

3) Bad facility - Our door wasn't flush with the ground - it had a half an inch of room from one end. This is probably where bugs were moving in freely. Our toilet was perpetually clogged (before even using it), the floors weren't very clean and the water pressure from the shower was extremely weak, while the faucet was hard to control.

4) Breakfast sucks. Nothing really cooked, except for warmed up hotdog bites. No eggs. Just some bagels, toast, milk, oj, cereal, fruit-fly infested bananas.

5) Not the fault of the hotel, but as an FYI - this hotel is located in Ocean Park. If you don't rent a car, you are in for a trip in the ghetto. Buses in this area can take over an hour to come and pick you up and there's no schedule.

Now, let's talk about the good about this place:

1) It looks cute and well maintained from the outside. Hammocks were nice.
2) Next to a beach. Keep in mind the water here is very choppy and the beach is dirty. Homeless people sleeping on it.

Needless to say, we are not coming back to this hotel. Maybe the bug situation was a fluke and you'll have better luck. Judge for yourself.
