We stayed at Tres Palmas for 5 nights. We stayed in number 9. It is pretty small, but always kept clean and the a/c was heaven. The property is so beautiful with so many trees and flowers and kept extremely clean. The housekeeping staff was extremely good and very friendly. Our 18 month old son fell in love with the ladies and followed them around. So kind. Marlena and Kimberly were the best of all. Called taxis, took photos, engaged in conversation, really first-rate. Eddie has a great staff and he was wonderful too. The pool is perfect and shaded most of the day which was great for our little boy. The beach is right across the street! Not close to Old San Juan or very many historical sites. Breakfast is simple, but good and it was great to eat outside, swing in the hammocks, chase lizards, and just live outdoors. There is a decent amount of noise during the night, with frogs and birds and traffic. We had a white noise machine which solved that for us :) This is a good place if you want a BEACH holiday.........sunning and swimming and sleeping. If you want to SEE sites, stay in an apartment in Old San Juan and save yourself the trouble of taxis and cars.

Room Tip: 9 is small and simple and near the back of the property and the A/C works like a cool dream.

We stayed here for 9 days and we were less than satisfied with the experience. I'll list everything that went wrong in order of importance:

1) Lots of bugs - they were eating us alive at night. My fiance had a total of 60 bug bites over the span of two nights. I am not exaggerating - we counted them. We weren't sure where they were coming from, although we suspected they were either bed bugs or ants. The little ants were running rampant in the room and you could see them running up the wall. We wanted to make sure we weren't getting the bites from the outside so we counted and went to bed. When we woke up we had significantly more than when we fell asleep. After complaining to management they said they would send somebody to take care of it. Apparently they sent someone and they "looked around and didn't see anything wrong" so they didn't do anything. We were furious. Talked to management again. They said it was the chemicals in the bed sheets. These were CLEAR bug bites with a center like you would expect - not a rash or allergic reaction from chemicals - it was sad they were trying to wash their hands by blaming the detergent they used. Next day - this time they promised they fumigated the whole place. So we took the manager to inspect the place - I immediately noticed an ant crawling on the wall - he just said "oh that's normal".

2) Bad management - after our horrible experience with the bugs, we wanted another room. We met resistance from management, the guy told us to give the room another try. We practically had to fight for getting another room. They gave in and let us move to another room - this is the only reason the review has 2 stars instead of 1. The new room was abundant in mosquitoes and we were still getting 1-2 bites a night, but at this point we were just happy not to be getting dozens of bites every night.

3) Bad facility - Our door wasn't flush with the ground - it had a half an inch of room from one end. This is probably where bugs were moving in freely. Our toilet was perpetually clogged (before even using it), the floors weren't very clean and the water pressure from the shower was extremely weak, while the faucet was hard to control.

4) Breakfast sucks. Nothing really cooked, except for warmed up hotdog bites. No eggs. Just some bagels, toast, milk, oj, cereal, fruit-fly infested bananas.

5) Not the fault of the hotel, but as an FYI - this hotel is located in Ocean Park. If you don't rent a car, you are in for a trip in the ghetto. Buses in this area can take over an hour to come and pick you up and there's no schedule.

Now, let's talk about the good about this place:

1) It looks cute and well maintained from the outside. Hammocks were nice.
2) Next to a beach. Keep in mind the water here is very choppy and the beach is dirty. Homeless people sleeping on it.

Needless to say, we are not coming back to this hotel. Maybe the bug situation was a fluke and you'll have better luck. Judge for yourself.

We had the pleasure of staying at this inn for 4 evenings in late-May. The first night was rough as I wasn't used to the sounds of the territorial coqui (admittedly, I am a very light sleeper). After purchasing a pair of earplugs I couldn't find enough wonderful things to say about this place! The proximity to the beach is fantastic, the rooms are small and very clean, the grounds are impeccably kept, and best of all, the staff and owners are wonderfully gracious! The receptionists were always willing to assist with calling taxis or helping set up tours. The al fresco breakfast is included and consists of cereals, bagels, croissants, hard-boiled eggs, seasoned franks, juices, strong coffee, etc. As mentioned in another review, there are beach chairs, boogie boards, and towels for guest use. The pool is wonderfully secluded and provides partial shade, and the small yard in the front of the inn has two hammocks for enjoying the ocean breeze. The upstairs patio has plenty of room for watching the sun set and to socialize with other guests. Two hot tubs are there as well and I've been told that they are going to remodel the area in the near future to include a jacuzzi-style "endless" hot tub. Many restaurants are within walking distance. If we go back to Puerto Rico we would consider ourselves fortunate to stay here! Definitely a great value!

Room Tip: Room 15 and 18 are near the front lawn and provide windows facing the ocean. There is an upstairs room next to the hot tubs that has a private balcony (unsure of the room number). Room 5 shares a wall with the stair case and kitchen - we stayed in this one and found it to be completely adequate.
