Owner description: More than just an art museum, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico hosts concerts and festivals as well. The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR), a non-for-profit organization, was inaugurated on July 1, 2000, as a legacy for the Puerto Rican people. The mission of the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico is to enrich the lives of its diverse audiences by making accessible and promoting the knowledge, appreciation, and enjoyment of visual arts from Puerto Rico and the world. The MAPR engages diverse communities to facilitate learning experiences about the visual arts through: the growth of a well-researched permanent collection exemplifying significant and representative examples of Puerto Rican art from the sixteenth century to the present; a dynamic program of exhibitions supported by engaging and exciting educational and cultural programs that collectively deepen the understanding of the role of the visual arts in the human experience and contribute to the creation of a curatorial legacy; documentation, research, interpretation, preservation, and conservation of the collection and the visual arts patrimony of Puerto Rico; and alliances with local, regional, and international museums and institutions to advance the knowledge of, access to, and understanding of the visual arts of the world.

It not a big museum that collects art work from those big names; but its an interesting museum collects good-quality art from local artists, who express their point of view as **PUERTO-RICANs**. Many art piece are very unique and memorizable, and you learned a lot about the culture in puerto rico after the visit. The staff there are really nice and will tell you lot about the art work, without being asked to.

You should definitely visit this museum if you want to see art works that are truly puerto rico.

Arranged previously to get an English guided tour. Staff was welcoming and the English tour was excellent.

Works are arranged by theme, not by date. For me that was great because you can see how the same subject is treated in different times and techniques. There was a Marco Polo exhibit that was worth the visit alone. The garden is spectacular.

The new exhibit on Marco Polo's expedition to the orient is fabulous and should not be missed. I felt like a school kid learning about his long journey which took over 20 years before he returned to his native Venice. One must be reminded of these adventurers and the risks they took. The museum is beautiful and the collection of local artists is wonderful. The garden's pond is full of koi and the trees are beautiful. The building once was a hospital and they have transformed it into a lovely cultural center.

The Marco Polo exhibit is excellent. The docent staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. The material is well presented and well explained.
The permanent exhibits were my introduction to Puerto Rican art. They provoked me to learn more about an artist group of which I was very unfamiliar. These exhibits give a good flavor of the history of the local art world.
