Owner description: More than just an art museum, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico hosts concerts and festivals as well. The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR), a non-for-profit organization, was inaugurated on July 1, 2000, as a legacy for the Puerto Rican people. The mission of the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico is to enrich the lives of its diverse audiences by making accessible and promoting the knowledge, appreciation, and enjoyment of visual arts from Puerto Rico and the world. The MAPR engages diverse communities to facilitate learning experiences about the visual arts through: the growth of a well-researched permanent collection exemplifying significant and representative examples of Puerto Rican art from the sixteenth century to the present; a dynamic program of exhibitions supported by engaging and exciting educational and cultural programs that collectively deepen the understanding of the role of the visual arts in the human experience and contribute to the creation of a curatorial legacy; documentation, research, interpretation, preservation, and conservation of the collection and the visual arts patrimony of Puerto Rico; and alliances with local, regional, and international museums and institutions to advance the knowledge of, access to, and understanding of the visual arts of the world.

“San Juan is a Museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2013

San Juan is filled with art and antiquities. I know of no other city with such a compressed collection of sites and museums, most of them available via bus. The Puerto Rican Museum of Art (Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico) is a bold and modern facility displaying the works of pioneers and the modern artists of Puerto Rico. Like all things Puerto Rican, it is vibrant with color. The museum features attentive docents and guides and English is spoken. Take a hour or a day and you will certainly enjoy yourself. If you like smaller museums, Viejo San Juan, the original city is filled with a variety of diverse art and history displays. Again, take the bus. Your hotel can give you the latest information about accessing sites via the bus as the schedules and routes seem to change constantly. Also, ask your fellow passengers at the bus stops. Many, especially the youth, speak English.

“If you don't like art museums you will LOVE this one!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

I am not a lover of art but this art museum is a gem. If you live in Puerto Rico or are a tourist you don't want to miss this museum. Located within minutes by car of the popular Condado beach area. This small museum charged a small $6/adult entrance fee. The lady spoke english (I don't speak spanish) and gave a great overview of the exhibits. Its more of a moderm art museum with all signs in spanish & english. I suggest giving yourself a good 3-4 hours to enjoy all exhibits including the gardens; the Koi Pond is enchanting. They often have special events so check their web site ahead of time. One note: They have their own parking and its cheap but be aware the entrance to the car park is at the front of the museum. You will enjoy this attraction.
