I recently stayed at the Gallery Inn for a second time. To me it is San Juan. It is like walking into a living work of art. The hotel is an open air garden experience. I loved sleeping with my window open feeling the warm sea breeze. It overlooks the Atlantic between two ancient forts inside the old city walls. But the highlight was sipping cava with the owner and other guests at the hotel's Gilligan's island style beach house. It is right on the beach with amazing sunsets from the deck just yards from crashing waves. Then we strolled back to the hotel for dinner in the orchid surrounded courtyard. Even the pool is a work of art.
My room was something out of a 17th century Spanish painting. Everything was clean and fresh while the walls were artistically faux painted to look hundreds of years old. It is the opposite of the insular sameness of a Hyatt/Hilton experience. I enjoyed sunrises on the roof top deck, the highest point in Old San Juan. It you are one of those who enjoy art and unique life experiences, the is a find. More
