San Cristobal is not to be missed. Nor is it to be rushed through; it is massive so give yourself plenty of time to explore! The US National Park Service has done a good job with informational signage that is interesting, yet easy enough to read. The structure as a whole is an impressive display of architectural achievement. As you roam the rooms, passageways, tunnels and lookouts, you feel like you are being transported back in time.

This site is just part of what makes up the UNESCO World Heritage Site "La Fortaleza and San Juan National Historic Site", and the NPS offer guided tours in English and Spanish on different days and at different times.

This fortress and its grounds are enormous and fascinating. If you go to San Juan, don't miss it. We came at the wrong time for the English-language tour (it's good to call ahead to find out when it's given), but we still had a lot of fun exploring the old buildings and tunnels and grounds.

We visited this on our second day here in Old San Juan.
Free shuttle takes you here, it runs often and is bumpy often.
Roads are a bit rough. Nice ocean views and very interesting history of San Juan from the 1500's. Great exhibits and very
friendly staff at front desk. Don't remember his name - 1/11.

This is the Fort that looks out at the sea on the end of Old Town San Juan. It can be hot so take something to drink with you and take a camera. You cannot help but take beautiful photos of the fort and it old world charm and construction and all the different vistas from different places within. This place looks the same as when it was built. You can imagine the rows of cannons that looked out over the ocean and entrance to the bay. This was the gateway to the Caribbean and the location is strategically perfect. There are ramps to the different levels that are wide and steep for the cannons to change positions as needed. You'll see restored cannons and the work shop where they do it. The exhibits are informative and historical. This is one attraction you do not want to miss.

This fort is quite smaller than EL Morro fort that is near by, but it is equally important. Make sure you take a great camera because the ocean views are just amazing!!!
