Old San Juan has a lot to offer but this street is fabulous...mostly because it has great restaurants like Marmalade!

Plenty of nice restaurants and bars. Some street vendors and artists also. There was a culinary festival when we went there which probably accounted for the large crowds in the evenings. Comes alive in the evening with outdoor bars, live music etc.

Definitely must eat and drink here. Food is good. Beautiful site. You have to find a decent priced restaurant though. They will rip off tourists. Walk around for a while. The scenery is beautiful and enjoy a drink while you search for a great restaurant.

This street starts at the Governors Mansion and continues to Plaza de Colon at the other end of the city. Both places are great to tour.

This street is filled with scores of restaurants. Just walk down the street and look at the restaurants and read the menus then just select one and eat. The choices are bountiful.

I agree with alot of the reviewers. Fortaleza is not an "attraction", its simply an uphill stroll (usually starting from the pier area) We love the street and have walked it dozens of times over the years, and wouldnt miss it. It is always busy with foot traffic, and cars honking and trying to get along the too skinny roads.(if you dont live here, dont attempt to drive it) The cruise ships dock at the base of old SJ, and if theres 4-5 ships in...multiply that by 2-4,000 ppl per ship...you can imagine the crowds. Alot of ships are in from around 2pm to 10 pm, and for some not enough time to anything else except walk, shop and explore old SJ. Branch off the Fortaleza street, the stores become more authentic. Get a cab or jump a bus to the Condado beach area for a few hours, or visit the old forts....theres so much to do in the few hours you may have here. You wont miss any shopping deals, what you will miss is dodging people and trying to find your own piece of sidewalk to make your way. There are a few designer outlets, but the prices are typical of US mall prices, often with old merchandise....the "Coach" store usually has a lineup to get in...once inside, hardly room to move (if the ship passengers are in town) and seriously rarely any good finds...hope this helps...Go for an hour or so...grab a quick lunch,,,,,and head in the other direction...
