“The one door you cannot miss to walk through”

It means so much to be able to get the feeling that this is "the door" to San Juan, where commerce was able to get to the rest of Puerto Rico.

“Bring Your Camera!”

Your imagination goes wild here thinking of the boats arriving and soldiers protecting this land. My daughter loved it.

“Benedictus Qui Venit In Nomine Domini”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2014

Blessed be those who come in the name of the Lord... This is the inscription on top of San Juan Gate, one of only two gates left standing in the Old City. Old San Juan, as you may know, was a walled/fortified city so there were four gates to the city out of which two are still standing, San Juan Gate and the less famous Puerta de Santiago which leads to the Santa María de Pazzi cemetery in the Old City, right by El Morro fortress. The San Juan Gate stands out with its ochre coloured facade. As you cross it approaching from the Paseo de la Princesa, bordering the Old City wall, you end up in Caleta de las Monjas, the most beautiful street in Old San Juan, which leads directly to San Juan Cathedral.

It was.... a doorway. :-) Nice enough, and interestingly old. We walked up Paseo De Princesa, and walked into the city through here.

“Make Sure to See”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2014

While waking around the city, make sure to walk along the water and through the old gate. The way up to the gate is very nice and scenic. After going through the gate, the beauty of the old city shows.
