The San Juan Gate was the formal entranceway into the city for dignitaries. Ships would let off their distinguished guests at this point when arriving in the city before continuing further into the harbor to unload cargo and let less famous passengers off. The gate is well preserved and the deep red color makes it stand out against the stone fortifications. The street that runs up from the gate to the square in front of San Juan Cathedral is arguable one of the prettiest in the city - don't miss it!
