The San Juan Gate is an interesting stop on a walking tour of Old San Juan. If you were caught outside the gate when it closed, you were out of luck until morning. Now you might see some of the protected feral cats outside the gate, lounging on the rocks.

“Nice "Passage Way"”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

On a recent rip to Old San Juan, we walked along the bay and came across the San Juan Gate. The guard on duty was very nice and explained the history of the gate. It was a nice piece of history to see as part of our city tour. If you are headed to the Cathedral, you should definitely take the time to see this as well.

We walked through the original gate to get inside the city. Great history and feeling was present. the walkway outside the wall and by the bay was beautiful. It was well lit at night and had info about the history of old San Juan.

I wanted to find the Gate , neat history , but it was not as grand as I thought . It was a big wooden -thick door . If you happen to be walking past it take a look but if you can't find it or are out of time don't worry about it . El Morrow will be enough

“Must See”

I love the walk to the gate. Start at trolley stop 12 and follow the wall of the city and the tree covered walk, then past the fountain for some more breath taking scenes of sea and more of the fort. The gat of San Juan was just spectacular. There are cool places to duck out of the sun and you can watch the Pelican dive for dinner.
