Owner description: This restored 19th-century esplanade is the place to begin your stroll through Old San Juan, because of its central location and its inexhaustible charm.

It's a walkable street, you would find a few vendors, and restaurants in there. Very nice for a family afternoon, with the kids. Romantic at night, and you find some curious things to buy as souvenirs.

This promenade is a great walk night or day or both along the southern wall of Old San Juan. There are vendors and park benches along the way. The actual Paseo de la Princesa extends from the southeastern corner of the wall to the Harborplace and the La Puntilla area of Old San Juan.

Sit on one of the park benches and watch the tourists. The promenade has a security presence. The area is well lit and well traveled. There are a few restaurants along the promenade.

The western end of the promenade is near the cruise ships. Thus, if you arrive on a cruise ship the promenade is an easy walk along the southern wall.

I would recommend continuing the walk along the promenade westward to the end of Paseo de la Princesa and continue along the western wall of the old city along the intersecting promenade and walk north. There is the main gate to Old San Juan which leads to the streets of Old San Juan. If you want to continue walking follow the promenade along the walls of Old San Juan to the end.

If you start from the port, there are fountains, bars, ocean views and a nice excersise, a walk around the city fort.
