Owner description: This restored 19th-century esplanade is the place to begin your stroll through Old San Juan, because of its central location and its inexhaustible charm.

This is a lovely peaceful place for a stroll, running alongside part of the old city wall. The interesting "Raizes" fountain at the end is worth a photo

Sometimes there are artesans or street theatre. You pass the Tourism Dept which used to be a prison and the wall above where the girlfriends of the inmates would come to dance for them in the evening. You'll see the light fixtures and fountain all made in Spain, to the chagrin of local artisans. But don't stop at the fountain. Continue up past the San Juan Gate. The paseo goes on all the way around the outside the massive walls of El Morro, and will soon be extended to connect to the ancient cemetery in La Perla.

We stayed at Sheraton Old San Juan and this was an easy, picturesque stroll to begin our walking journey into Old San Juan. There is a wonderful outdoor cafe (Cafe Princess) near the old wall of the city under the banyan trees which we enjoyed along the way. Walking along the Paseo del la Princesa lead us around the outside wall of Old San Juan and eventually to the Old San Juan Gate. See if you can find the location of the time capsule buried in the walk way. I believe it is scheduled to be opened in 2020.

I loved this place, it is a walk through history. A little bit of the PR culture.Really loved the fountain at the ed. Looking fowards to discovering the top part of Old San Juan. When I went their was a guy doing magic tricks, not dure if this is often or just on weekends. Very good for family, couples or just in need of some relaxation time

Thank hosperd
