“Top hotel in old San Juan”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2014

We stayed at Casablanca for 4 nights in a balcony room. The hotel is very well situated in the old town with many good restaurants in the same street. The rooms are clean and comfortable, although you have to expect them to be a little small due to the hotel's location in the old town. House keeping was exceptional as they seemed to come into our room and give us fresh towels whenever we went out even it was twice a day. The staff are helpful and breakfast waffles are delicious (you get a 20% discount if staying at the hotel). We found a rental car wasn't really necessary even though we had one and you will probably have to pay to park it in one of the parking lots as there isn't much street parking in the old town. The baths on the roof were an excellent touch after a day of sight seeing and they even have hot water.

Can't say enough about the CasaBlanca Hotel. Located in the "Old" San Juan district, the architecture and interior design was very cool and intriguing. This is not your "cookie-cutter" hotel, where every hallway and room looks the same, this hotel is so tastefully designed and different in every room. Our room we stayed in was 5D. The room is a small room, but that is not a bad thing. The bed was so comfortable, and the bathroom was very clean. We checked out the roof terrace on top of the hotel which showed some very cool views. The front desk staff was very helpful and recommended some places to eat. Old San Juan is a very cool place to stay, you can walk everywhere which makes it easy.

Room Tip: There is no parking provided, we had a rental car and had to find a parking garage, which was not a...

We stayed at the Casablanca for a total of 6 nights, in room 3A.

The location: right in the old town, walking distance to everything (shops, restaurants, taxis, etc), on the main street in the Old San Juan, 15/20 minutes walk to the Escambron beach.

The staff: extremely friendly and helpful. Always available to give information, recommendation, etc

The room: our room was on the 3rd floor with a shared balcony with another room, view on the Fortaleza street (great for people watching). Good space and enough storage for two. Bed super comfy. Room super clean

The bathroom: on the small side but perfectly fine, very clean. Enough towels provided

The reception/lobby/bar area: gorgeous décor (lighting, furniture, etc), really cosy, TVs with movie Casablanca playing. If you would like to watch the movie from the beginning, the staff will be more than happy to rewind, you just need to ask! We bought beers and cheesecake one night and watched the movie. A member of staff helped us move the sofas around so we could be comfortable. It was just like being at home, perfect! The hotel will be more than happy to store your luggage too.

We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend anyone to stay here.

The location is great and everyone working on the front desk was extremely helpful and friendly. This hotel has a good atmosphere, I would totally stay again.

Why not full five stars then... well, our room had no window at all! I know some more expensive rooms have balconies, but every room should have even a small window. No hairdryer in the rooms. We could hear almost everything from the other rooms. I think that the rooftop could be made a wonderful place with little effort, now it's quite boring even when there are those small bathtubs. I've seen so beautiful rooftops on some small and cheap hotels, Casablanca can never compete with those.

Anway, totally recommendable hotel, good value for money and the greatest staff! Much more pros in this place than those few cons.

The two nights were just delightful. Centrally located in Old San Juan and ambiance similar to small hotels in Europe. Staff was so helpful and rooms great. Will certainly stay there when we return. Great value!

Room Tip: Great views of the city and street from A and B rooms.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights before a cruise and this is a very nice hotel in a great location, right at the heart of Old San Juan! You can walk pretty much everywhere since the old part of the city is quite small (and very beautiful), and there are many good restaurants, bars and cafés close to the hotel too.

The building is clearly old but seems well maintained, and it appears each room has its own unique decoration (we had to 2 rooms and they were very different from one another). The biggest concern is that there is no elevator, which seems to be pretty common in hotels in Old San Juan, so if you have a room in the higher floors you'll probably want to ask somebody in the staff to help you get your suitcases up there!

Speaking of which, the hotel staff is really nice and were glad to help us with anything we needed, making sure we had a pleasant stay.

Overall, a very good choice for the price we paid, I would definitely return!

My wife and I recently celebrated our wedding anniversary in San Juan and we stayed at Casablanca Hotel for 5 nights. It was easily the best decision of the trip. The Casablanca Hotel is reasonably priced and gushing with charm. The moment we walked in, Juan at the front desk checked us in smoothly and quickly, and our luggage was whisked up to our room on the 4th floor. The room had a super comfy queen-sized bed and was very clean. My wife wanted a hairdryer and I wanted some ice so I called the front desk and Juan personally brought both up to our room. I commended him for that since we were on the 4th floor and there's no elevator. Having said that, I didn't mind taking the stairs because I loved looking at the cool little light covers that adorned the stairways. The decor is so chic it felt a bit like an art museum or exhibition. In the lobby, there's even a clear floor under a seating area with a fake office (or something) in it. Very cool and hip, especially when you look down from another floor. Breakfast at the hotel is your best bet. It's a great bargain with the hotel discount (and free coffee)! Plus, when I said I didn't want toast with my eggs they offered me extra bacon instead. That made me happy. After a few days of exploring the shops and cafes in Old San Juan, we started strolling down to Escambron Beach (about 2 miles east of the hotel), which is family friendly, and not too touristy. If you have a rental car, it's about a 5 min drive and you can park it at the beach. we also utilized the hotel's rooftop deck for sunbathing, or a nitecap. Yes, one of the pros of staying on the 4th floor was that it was only one level from the rooftop deck. Score!

I was very, very satisfied with our experience at Casablanca Hotel and would highly recommend it!
