Cool place, with a lot of people but with the ambiance of a cozy traditional puertorrican restaurant. The coffee was nice, BUT THE MALLORCAS WAS DELICIOUS. Try the mallorca con azucar con jamon y queso (ham and cheese sugar mallorcas) sweet and salty at the same time! The place wasnt Dennys but if you want true flavors of puertorrican breakfast, this is the place.

walked to this diner-restaurant for breakfast one morning after reading reviews on Trip Advisor, trying to find a less expensive place to start our day. BIG MISTAKE. First, I saw locals eating, it was holiday so a variety of families, young people were there. The place wasn't crowded, table and counter space readily available. The typical morning menu food was fine as a tasty, normal breakfast, but it was how we were treated that made us never set foot in the place again during our week visit to Old San Juan. First we walked in to just stand around for many minutes. No service person approached us....the cashier, who was within 3 feet of us, who also pulled out the pastries displayed in the window, never said a word. Eventually we just wandered over to a vacant table. Looking around I noticed only one man serving the front section. He never engaged in eye contact with us, never smiled. Walked past us several times...like we're invisible people. About 10 minutes of this and he finally handed-threw us menus- again no word- yet. Then a quick walk by and asked if we wanted to order- so we jumped on a selection-who knew when he would return? We did get coffee & juice later, then shortly food came. He never came back for anything else. Saw others waiting and waiting for bills, refills, orders, so I guess it wasn't just us (as tourists). He was very unhappy...and we felt that vibe too. Maybe they were short handed but, really, there were 5 servers working the counter who never moved towards the front area. We had to catch him to get the bill and yes, it wasa great price,,,,but what's the cost for 2 hours of frustration, on your vacation to un-stress? We talked to 2 other couples who had done the same "wander in,finally sit down & wait routine", warning them it was not going to improve. Sorry, this is not the place we will ever recommend or return to- especially for just average food. We never had any other feeling of being unwelcomed in all the places we walked and shopped during our week in Old San Juan. It might just be the one guy.....but one can set the tone- and memories- for the whole place.

Good food, both Puerto Rican and other. It is a little crowded, but the mallorcas are awesome, the food is great. You should try it!

The fact that most of the tables are occupied by the locals lets you know that you are in the right place. It is the San Juan version of diner food. Breakfast is simple and good with a nice cafe leche (coffee with milk). We bought "Mallorcas" for the plane trip home which are wonderful sandwiches.

I was looking for La Bombonera, which appears to have closed for good, when I stumbled on this little dinner which was just as good as what I was looking for. The mallorcas are tasty sandwiches made with a soft, pressed bread sprinkled with confectionary sugar. Ask for your mallorca with Swiss cheese instead of American. Enjoy.
