Several years ago, on a visit to Puerto Rico I ate at the Momoyama Restaurant and had one of the best sushi meals I've ever had. I am a sushi addict and connoisseur, and have eaten sushi all around the world. So, I was very excited to go back to a restaurant I had held with good memories. ALAS, Momoyama is no more that restaurant. It is not worth eating the sushi there. The yellow tail was old. The eel was dry and rubbery. The fotumaki was completely tasteless. The spider sushi was also very disappointing because the rice was not fresh and the condiments were completely lacking in flavor. The drinks were good, but expensive. Given that the meal was so terrible, the drinks were not worth it.
I must say that the maitre d' at the restaurant was especially amiable, was very supportive of his female staff, and worked hard to keep up the spirits of the waitresses. However, he completely ignored the dour and incompetent sushi chef. That chef clearly did not have high standards for himself or his work.
We ended up paying $100 for the meal, and felt completely ripped off. DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT for sushi!!
The chef should be replaced and the maitre d' needs to pay attention to the quality of sushi coming out of the sushi bar. During this visit, he failed completely to do so.
