I spent three days driving the ruta from east to west. I'd suggest driving with your headlights on at all times, Leave your window down so you can hear on-coming traffic better. Stick to driving during daylight hours. Best to avoid Friday-Sunday traffic on the narrow road. It was beautiful, breath-taking scenery along narrow, mostly well paved and winding roads. Watch for the brown signs indicating Ruta. Many different numbered local roads comprise the Ruta. After studying websites, aquiring several tourbooks and maps...honestly the BEST map was a freebie tear-off from one of the hotels. The map is from TravelMaps.com
