As this was our first visit to Jamaica (we also visited many other Caribbean destinations over the years of travelling) we enjoyed the food and all the resort amenities. Great choices at buffet restaurant for all meals and would definitely recommend the Italian restaurant for the sunset scenery and service,... not so much for the meal. We tried the Japanese too but seen better shows before. Staff was friendly and we had the bar staff trained fast, how to make "Dr. Pepper" drinks, LOL just ask for 'tall glass-half beer, half cola and shot of amaretto!!! ' .Recommend taking short 2 mile cab ($20/4people) to 'Ultimate Jerk' great local food spot to try curry goat, curry pork and curry chicken - $13, good deal.
We will return in the future for more 'Jamaican fun' ;)
Ps. Watch out for timeshare scam freebies !

Very unimpressed. Toilet was broken for two days before someone came to fix it, had to change my own light bulbs, A/C unit went out. Talked to manager who was rude not only to us but the staff and said it was all their fault for the issues.

The grounds of the Gran Bahia Principe are great and the resort is isolated with no other resorts making noise around it. The resort has a beach surrounding a giant lagoon with plenty of room everyone. We upgraded the second night to the Don Pablo Collection. This was our take on the resort. The food was OK, no real issues and there was plenty to choose from, we only did the buffet and did not try to do any of the specialty dining options. The biggest complaint about the buffet was the lack of air conditioning. It would be so hot in that enclosed space that you would begin to melt the moment you walked in. We did eventually learn to just get our food and eat outside at the outdoor tables, rather than being miserable eating inside of the buffet. The Snack Shack on the beach with it's Jerk Chicken each day at lunch was the best of all the meals we had there. Our original room before upgrading had an incredible Ocean View and we were extremely pleased with it. Unfortunately after upgrading to the Don Pablo Collection our view was not quite as good, but still ok since we were on a high floor. The use of the Don Pablo Private Pool made the price of the room worth it, unfortunately the air conditioning in our room did not work, which was fine during the day, but made sleeping at night quite difficult. Other than the Time Share folks who popped up around every corner about 6 times a day, the rest of the staff was extremely pleasant and helpful!

I was in aww from the moment I stepped off the plane. What a beautiful country Jamaica! The Bahia in Runaway Bay was breathtakingly gorgeous. Clean and pristine from the first day til the last. The food was yummy and the drinks were endless! The people are gracious and kind hearted. I was given information about what to do and where to go from the day I arrived so my trip was planned out nicely and even giving me enough time to enjoy the amenities of the resort. The nightly entertainment was a bonus and a nice way to end the long day in the sun. There were friend's I made along the way and memories to be saved. Thank you Jamaica for all that you gave, I really enjoyed myself!

I was so unsure about this hotel as I had been reading Trip Advisor comments weeks before I was due to go but I honestly didn't know what I was worried about. I stayed for 14 nights starting on the 9th June there were 3 of us all together in 2 rooms. Before I travelled I e-mailed the hotel and asked for inter-connecting rooms with sea views and we got it which was an excellent start to the holiday. The resort is huge and from room 18412 to reception was a good walk. When we got to our rooms there wasn't any towels in one room and the other only had hand towels but after a word with reception towels were there in our rooms.
Food was fantastic - it was the best all inclusive food that we have had. There was so much choice in the buffet and breakfast, lunch and dinner. Jerk chicken shack was A-MAH-ZING. I could of eaten there every day. The Spanish a la carte wasn't my favourite the only authentic thing was the Sangria. The Italian was lovely ate there twice the Japanese was my favourite we dined there on the last night and it was FAB.
The room was huge and the so were the beds. The rooms were clean and the mini fridge was re-stocked daily with all branded soft drinks and water.
The pool area and the beach were cleand and it's one of the biggest pools we've ever seen. The sea was gorgeous but the beach wasn't what you'd probably expect in the Caribbean.
The only negative I have for this hotel is that there aren't enough umbrellas by the pool. There are plenty of seats but if you want some shade you have to be there early.
We booked several trips with our rep and it was nice to leave the hotel and see Jamaica. Dunns River Falls, Blue Mountain and Good Hope House are a must.
Couldn't fault the staff at all there were all friendly my nan hurt her foot whilst we were away and every member of staff asked if she was ok or could help with any thing.
All in all we had a fantastic holiday and if we were to return to Jamaica then it will be at the Bahia for sure.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room the views are fab

We travelled here on June 7, 2014 and stayed in Room 23313. We flew in to Montego Bay and the shuttle bus to the resort took about an hour.

Check-in was straight forward and we found ourselves to the room just fine. On our brief walk to our room we noticed how bustling the resort was and it was nice to see a great outdoor lounge area filled with happy guests. It felt like a good mix of families, couples, groups and solo travellers.

We were quite relieved to find no musty odour when we opened the front door to our suite - only nice cool air filled the room. A brand new flat screen Samsung TV, Coffee Maker with fresh coffee/condiments, well stocked bar fridge with plenty of bottled water and fresh brochures/pamphlets. All bed linens, canopy draping, towels and curtains were clean. The King sized 4 poster bed was plush and firm. There was even a spacious personal patio area with Jacuzzi tub. We overlooked a quiet view of the forest and spent most nights listening to the birds and wildlife.

During our stay we noticed how well the staff maintained a consistently fun and social atmosphere. There were plenty of areas for peace and quiet and just as many places for music, hanging out with new friends and drinks. It felt like a perfect balance.

We ate at the main buffet for all of our meals and were quite content with the overall selection. Although there were lineups for omelettes the staff made sure to stock over easy/hard eggs nearby for those who preferred that style - saving you the wait. Bacon went quick but staff worked hard to maintain the demand! Lots of fruit, yogurt, donuts, juices, beans - lots of options.

For Lunch time we usually made our way to the Beach Bar for Jerk Chicken and homemade Hot Sauce. Arrive 11 - 11:30 to avoid lineups, even if you arrive later the lineups move quick. You overlook the beautiful ocean and there is smaller buffet for Guacamole, Fruits and various other sides for lunch. One most days there were live bands playing and plenty of seating for large or even small groups.

Dinner offered lots of rotation and plenty of selection. No complaints.

The pool areas were nice to clean and the complex is massive so you can always find a spot to rest for the day. The beach was split up into coves with lots of loungers surrounding. If YOU prefer a beach with soft sand you might be a bit bummed. We found most areas were rocky and some areas within the waters beach front had bigger rocks. The water was calm not choppy and there was a self contained nude beach area too. We personally loved the beach but some of the things I mentioned above might not work for some. They also had a huge football (soccer) field and a volleyball court - as well as a few bars scattered throughout.

We travelled with Air Transat and went on the Spirit of Reggae Tour (Bob Marley Tour) and Port Antonio. We loved both excursions! You'll need an open mind for the Bob Marley Tour - do a little homework to see if it will meet your expectations. We loved our guide (Rassss Chhhaaka!) and everyone on-site who worked there was hilarious. I would highly recommend visiting Port Antonio - but again do your research to make sure it's right for you. It was a full day tour that consisted of a waterfall and diving show - private beach for 2 hours along with delicious lunch and 2 hours on a Bamboo Boat through the back rivers.

The tap water is safe to drink. There is 60 minutes complimentary wifi and lots of well stocked convenience stores on-site. A small Market for souvenirs, late night disco and late night snack bar.

All in all a great resort with lots of amenities - I'd highly recommend this resort and my boyfriend and I will be returning next year!

Brilliant hotel, exceptionally clean, lovely grounds and rooms. Majority of staff were lovely especially Kerry and Sasha in the Palmyra Restaurant. Front desk staff were miserable (more training needed here in customer service) and booking ala carte restaurants was a bit of a nightmare - booking only available after 9pm if at all. Adults only restaurant buffet was very varied and Don Pueblo food was fantastic.
Air con needs to be put in the restaurants and public area's as temperatures and humidity were extreme and you can't spend all your time in your room, the shops or the spa. We did tip regularly and the staff were appreciative as they earn very low wages. The main clientele are American or Canadian and we did find many rude and very aggressive so you have to stand your ground or be pushed out of the way (queueing quietly did not go down well with them). Lots of good natured entertainment organised by the brilliant hotel team and lots of fun and games by the pool. We will return but probably in November when the humidity is lower.

Room Tip: Get as high as possible - less insects.
