“Beautiful resort, beautiful people!”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

First and fore most we had a wonderful time at this resort. This spot is beautiful. This was mine and my husbands first all inclusive and we were a little worried about how things would go, luckily we were not disappointed!

Our room was comfortable and clean, cleanliness was very important to me. The only draw back is that we did not have face clothes and the clock didn't keep time, we set it, but it lost minutes as the day went by... we had a phone, so no worries.

The buffet was decent, but not amazing. We knew many people who had stayed at this resort prior to us, we got mixed reviews on the food. Everyday was themed which was fun, there was regular selections at the buffet and some things were changed up each day. I had no problems finding something that I liked. I especially enjoyed the buffet for breakfast and lunch. We had a wonderful server named Terrique (please forgive the spelling) He was always on top of things, once we had him, we requested his section from that point on. He made sure we had plenty of water and wine or beer... never let our glasses run empty, but only poured the booze after asking if we wanted more. This guy is definitely gonna move up the ladder quickly, this resort is very lucky to have such a diligent young man working for them! We went to the Mikado, Don Pablo and the Grill, we enjoyed each of these nights. Don Pablo was terrific, I feel that our server had to work very hard to keep things going for us, He had to prepare our main plates and our desserts... and maintain a fairly large section, he was lovely and did a great job, but I think they need a little more help in their sections!

We loved the pool and spent most of our days there, we hung out in the area nearest to the Don Pablo section... We spent a decent amount of time near the swim up bar, Shanna (again forgive the spelling) is a fantastic bartender!!

We spent a few evenings out in the shopping area watching some of the shows, we took in the Men VS women show, the steal drums and the Jamaician show. We loved the steal drums! We also spent some time on the terrace, the staff and entertainment were also great there.

Avoid getting your welcome package, they are pushy and it's a time share...

Also as a side note, Treson was our Sunwing representative, she was lovely and helped make sure we a great time at this place, which we totally did!

I would definitely come back to this resort!!

Just came back from GBPJ and had a wonderful experience. As a family of 5, the room was big. 2-4 poster beds and the single sofa were all very comfortable & the belcony was huge. Biggest bathroom I have ever used. The beach was awesome, very clean and never to crowded even though the hotel was full. You could go out a good distance before it got too deep, especially good with younger kids. The reefs were close and could see lots of fish even swim with some montarays(not sure of spelling). The pool was huge and clean. The swim up bars fun(kids liked their piña coladas there me rum or Red Stripe) One side was for the partiers the other was more quite for families.
Now the food, buffet food was what you expect, not gourmet but still very good with plenty of variety. The speacilty restaurants were amazing(book early). The Don Pablo gourmet was awesome never tasted chateaubriand that melted in my mouth like that. The grill and Japanese were equally impressive. They also had kid menus for the younger ones that won't try anything unfamiliar. All the bartenders were nice and served quickly. They didn't expect tips like other reviewers have posted even tough I occasionally did(most resorts are like this unless your cheap). It is true that some, not all, of the female waitresses seemed a little slow and grumpy but serving that many people would make me misarable to, and those definitely did not get a tip. As for the night clubs, not really into that but the ones going in and out seemed to enjoy themselves.
The one complaint I have is with the front desk. We called down to refresh our mini bar and it took three calls before someone came. Plus it took them forever to answer.
Whether this is a 5* or 4* I'm not so sure, but for the value I doubt if you can beat it. The wife and I want to come back again(without the kids)!
Definitely do Dunns Falls was so much fun. If you can go earlier so all the tour busses aren't there crowding your experience.

My family and I stayed at this resort from April 26 - May 3 in rooms 12303 & 12304. We were close to the main lobby, restaurants, pool and it just seemed like a great block in terms of accessing everything quickly. We had a partial ocean view too! We were greated with delicious welcome drinks during our fast and painless check-in by the Front Desk supervisor - who was so upbeat and pleasant to deal with! In no time, we were escorted to our rooms by the bellhop and greeted with a fruit basket and rum! We requested rooms closed by a week prior and got it! I also emailed a la carte reservations after reading some reviews but didn't even need to because there was no problem booking the times we wanted the following day after we checked in! We also even got a reservation slipped under our door for one of the bookings I emailed about, so it was received by the hotel but just a little late coming. Anyway, the snack bar was our first stop since the dinner buffet opens at 6:30 pm. We were amazed at the variety of Caribbean food that was offered in the snack bar right on the beach (beautiful!). We ate at the buffet mostly after having dinner at the Grill and Mikado and not being overly impressed. The worse part of the trip was probably dinner at Mikado, our chef was not very animated and did very few tricks, not sure if she was new or maybe it just wasn't the right job for her. The food was way too salty and the rice all got overcooked so it was like crunchy by the time we got it. Would not recommend based on my experience. The buffet was great each night!

Beach was beautiful and a great walk, plenty of chairs and no big deal with the shades, just wake up early and reserve an umbrella yourself, for the most part, people tended to leave the beach in the afternoon so there were tons of spots around 3:00 pm. Otherwise, if you walk down towards the nude beach, there were always tons of beachfront chairs. Snorkelling was great too! Lots of coral, fish, sealife!

The pool was a lot of fun throughout the day. Kevin and Rohan and their team work so hard all day each day to keep guests entertained. I would recommend that the staff do something about all the stray plastic cups that end up in the pool though. One day we tried the quiet area of the pool next to Don Pablo's section and it was relatively uneventful, so if you want to take a nap - it's your spot.

The wifi in the lobby was great! I was disappointed that the spa facilities were not included as they are at the Grand Palladium, but I heard the services were worth what you had to pay for. My husband went to the gym, said it was great too.

The late night entertainment was not that great, the dancers were talented but the show was likely on a limited budget, there were no special effects or script really, just mostly dancing.... The disco was a great spot for the 20-35 year olds or so, but the Burger Principe was disappointing...

Overall, where it matters we had a great trip and would recommend this hotel to anyone looking at the "value-for-money" component!

Room Tip: Email the hotel in advance, they will do their best to accommodate. Rooms in the 1200 block are loc...

We were at the Grand Bahia Principe Jamaica from April 21 - 28. Our group consisted of 3 couples. We had an amazing time!
We booked with Apple vacations and were upgraded to the Don Pablo Club when we arrived. The upgrade consisted of unlimited alacarts (pre-booked for us), 24 hour room service, a private beach and pool, butler service, wifi in the Don Pablo Lounge and ocean view rooms. I don't know how much it costs to upgrade normally, but we were very impressed and wouldn't definitely consider booking the Don Pablo for our next trip!
The entire beach was beautiful! They had a special part sectioned off for Don PabloC Club, but the entire beach was perfect! The pools were also very nice. The temperature was perfect and we had no problem finding chairs.
We found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful. We tipped at the bars and restaurants and I think it was appreciated, we always got very good service. The only place we found the service wasn't exceptional, was at the breakfast buffet, I started getting coffee in the lobby before breakfast and bringing it because I couldn't seem to get a coffee no matter how many times I asked.
We tried all the alacart restaurants. I especially enjoyed the Don Pablo, the Teppanyaki, and the Italian restaurant, but all were delicious and enjoyable. The snack bar by the beach was usually very busy, but the staff were very good about helping you find a spot. The Jerk Chicken Hut was amazing!
The resort grounds are beautiful and well kept! There are stray cats around, but they usually stay away. The rooms were also very nice. Some felt a little older and could probably use an update, but nothing to complain about.
The only thing I would change is there are a number of people trying to sell what I think were time shares (we never ended up going to any meetings) but you get asked constantly to go to parties and meetings and lunches to hear about this and there were a few people who were pushier then others in trying to get you sign up.
Overall, it was a fabulous experience and I would highly recommend the Grand Bahia Principe Jamaica!!

Room Tip: Upgrade to Don Pablo club if you can!

Had a great time, but the hotel can use a little upgrade.

Pros:
-Beach is beautiful. No problem geting umbrellas.
-Pool and pool bar are nice.
-Rooms are large. Balconies all have nice views.
-Jerk Chicken at the beach buffet was really good.

Cons:
-Other than the jerk chicken (and maybe the Garden Grill), the food was not great.
-Bathrooms a little run down.
-Hallways and elevator all smell moldy/musty.
-Constantly running out of pool towels.

For the $$, I was happy with this resort, especially since most of the day was spent by the beautiful beach and pool areas, but the rooms and hallways are ready for an upgrade.

Dear Guest,

We have valued your comments about the beach, pool and pool bars, spacious room and balcony; views and also the Jerk chicken at the Snack Bar. Thank you as well, for letting us know your observations; however, your opinion about the food has overwhelmed us, as it is through the answers to our questionnaires and surveys that we have learnt the variety and selection offered in our meal services have a high rate within our guests preferences. Nevertheless, we regret that we could not impress you with that. We will make sure to transmit all of your comments to related departments, to take them into consideration.

Thank you for sharing your review with us, and for choosing Grand Bahia Principe Jamaica.

BPPC = Bahia Principe Privilege Club. As RCI Members you are part of the Privilege Club making this vacation a great value with outstanding service. You get 7 nights at the ala cart restaurants (Picasso was our favorite – welcome cocktail of Sangria is the BEST) all are very good – make sure you get you welcome cocktail!!! Privilege Club members get premium liquor at no additional costs at the bar at the pool and beach that are designated for Privilege Club and Don Pablo guest only. You have a separate area at the pool and beach for Privilege Club and Don Pablo guest only. Your room is overlooking the private pool area that is very quiet and all have great views of the ocean. If you are in any other part of the resort it will be noisy. Our room was on the 6th out of 7 floors – ask for a high floor room when they call you 3-4 weeks before arrival. Also when they call you – you will be offered airport transfer (extra cost-not included in AI) – I found this to be the cheapest rate and is a private driver. Privilege club has private check in and check out in a room they call the “living room”. Here you have free Wi-Fi, access to computers (free), free international phone calls, premium liquors, and your very friendly and always helpful Privilege Club staff who will do anything for you. We did not use the front desk staff for anything as the Privilege Club did everything from Check- in to Check-out and arrange for us to have a private driver into Ocho Rios for a day of shopping.
Our room was exactly as seen in the picture!!
Was truly a great resort, with great staff and amenities. Bring a few dollars to tip your waiters, bartenders, maids, and Privilege Club staff they all work hard to make your stay excellent. Can’t wait to try another Bahia Principe resort and will definitely go back to the Bahia Principe in Runaway Bay Jamaica!!
Don’t miss snorkeling out by the gazebo, Dunn's River Falls and the Jerk Chicken at the Snack Bar on the Beach!!

Room Tip: Building 23 5th floor and higher - overlooking quite pool and all ocean views!!

We were there for 7 nights in early May. The great stuff first: Wonderful beach and pool. Go down toward the middle of the beach, the sandy area, wade out and enjoy the beautiful tropical fish. It never felt too crowded at either the beach or pool. Entertainment staff at the pool were wonderful - all of them. Nightly lobby bar entertainment was good and Michelle Black (one of the singers) was amazing. The rooms are all a pretty good size with a sitting area and balcony. Maid service was great. We tipped the maid, bartenders and servers. They all expected it which was unusual for an all inclusive resort but it was worth it.

This is a big resort but I felt it was very walkable. The fitness activities (yoga and water aerobics) and personal trainer, Donovan, were wonderful.

The not too great: Food needs an overhaul across the board and that includes the buffet and specialty restaurants, except for the jerk bar which was great. The entertainment in the resort shopping area leaves a little to be desired. Wifi should be expanded. Need extra people to work check out because there were long lines. I did not like the roped off areas for the exclusive guests. It just felt wrong to me. These guests got better service, food, and drinks. Although they say this is a new resort, the rooms are dated, but who spends any time in the room anyway. Bring mosquito repellent for the room. The location is isolated so you have few options except to book paid excursions.

Room Tip: Request an upper floor, odd number, building 17 or 18, this places you in the center of the pool and...
