“New Year Great Time”
Reviewed January 18, 2013

Arrived at this hotel on 31/12/12, on arrival at the hotel after a 1hr bus journey we were greeted with a cold fruit punch and welcoming staff,, check in was very efficent and a porter took us to our garden bungalow,, we had book two bungalows as my dad was travellling with us,, we ended up with adjoining bungalows which was ideal the grounds surrounding bungalows were stunnin .
Room very spacious and better than any hotel room had large bathroom and luggage room where wardrobe was also.. room had hairdryer iron and ironing board..alos room had lcd tv with a varierty of chanels.. the rooms also had a fan or a/c i prefered the fan.
As it was new year there was a gala dinner with a choice of 3 roast joints and fresh salmon,,after dinner the staff were giving everyone party hats and tiaras whilst a live band played round the pool side,, towards the bells staff presented us with glasses of champagne.

Foodgood varierty of food even the fussiest of eaters wouldnt starve here,,,i really loved the selection of bread and cakes no diet on this holiday,,visted a la carte asian was ok nothing special,,,however yoiu could also use this facility at sister hotel fun caribbean the japanese was amazing visted this on my dads 70th birthday wre the food is cooked at the table defo worth a visit Fun Crew what can i say they work over 12hrs a day and always smiling - our favs were princess and scooby. ;; entertainment mainly dancing incl resident band each nyt and the royal decameron dancers,,there was activities throught the day to suit all ages and staff werent in your face.Bar Great service at main bar, even with the french trying to get to the front,,however the jetty bar was the place to chill and watch the antics of GEORGE the bar man ....the wooden swings were an added features,,,you can also sunbathe here during day and bar opens at 11am.
Local Sellers Everyday local craft people would have stalls at beg of jetty bar,, not pushy however just outside hotel could get same goods at fraction of price.. there was also a varierty of sellers each night arounf poolside,
The hotel has mainy features incl supermarket however outside entrance a cheaper supermarket and gift store can be found, you can also use canoes catamaran and pedalos free of charge, although most days red flag and sea was rough.Whilst here there is loads of trips however i did find these expensive compared to cuba,,,,dunns water falls is a most even thought i could walk the falls as pregnant my family said was great experience,,, shopppin at ochio rios is good and the craft market is sumthing else full of people shouting for your attention ..finish this off with a cool bear at mama marleys,, try this for the price i will return

Room Tip: Room 112 113 in gardens close to everything but away from entertainment noise at night,

Was at the RDCC 24/12/12 - 7/1/13 - Fourth time at this particular hotel, first time at Christmas, personally I wouldnt go away at Christmas again but thats for diiferent reasons. Hoetel check in was really quick, we know the drill and just wanted to get to the room to unpack and get out to start our holiday, lots of friendly faces and hugs to greet us on our return to our second home, one day in and if feels like you have never been away. Yes the french were there, really didnt bother apart from the music being played in the disco on "French DJ" night was one sided as I said to DJ Pablo "I have not come to Jamaica to listen to the eurovision, I maybe had a few too many rums that night but still stand with my thoughts!
All staff, from reception to lifeguards, bar staff - cleaners all lovely, no concerns at all. Food as always get repeatative, but a few visits to the chicken shop or patty shop solves that. We eventually got on the bob marley trip, was a great expereince, Bob from Paulines gift shop made sure we were safe and enjoyed the trip. Visited the British Bulldog - see other review.
Big shout out to Wayne Harvey, Wayne Miller, George, JJ, Okra,Omark (bingy),Marvin,Micheal,Donovan,Antionette, Kerri ann, Kevin ....... and anyone else who helped to make my holiday amazing............
Keep up the hard work

Went to Jamacia and stayed at the RDC for Christmas and New Year. We were like many people always read trip advisor and then make up our own mind. All we can say is we were impressed, we did not have one of the cottages as they were too big for what we wanted it for so we had a room in the courtyard, which was plenty enough for us. The room was clean along with the bed being huge and very comfortable. We had hot running water at anytime during the day, clean towels as well as the room being cleaned every day. Only downside was the room was dark hence it being called a courtyard, but as we was not in it during the day it did not matter to us, we slept in the room and showered in it (didn't need anything else). Of a night time every night there was a noise coming from the birds, but after a day or so we got used to it and fell asleep with the noise of the birds.

The complex was great, very clean and the staff were fantastic. The food was great too, we never went hungry.. Everyday we went on the beach and lounged by the jetty bar. reason for this, as by the main pool there was always something going on with the entertainment crew and we wanted to just relax and enjoy the sunshine. but if thats what you wanted then you would soon be busy in all the activities that they did. The beach was combed evey morning too get rid of the seaweed and rubbish too, which made the beach immaculate.

Entertaiment of a night time was fantastic it was a real mix, they had their own resident band but then they also had bands, dancers and culteral themed nights from outside enterainers. You had the normal holiday maker participation on a few nights which was always enteraining. (You was never pressured to join in either, if you didnt want to do it then that was ok).

On previous reviews that we looked at; it was commented on how rude the french were and that they seem to invade the place. Well, when we was there, yes there were alot and they bought there own entertainment crew, but all I can say is that, we must have had a nice lot as we did not have any issues with them and believe me we was expecting it. They in fact were all in good spirits, as well as us. We all had the same idea, we just wanted a good holiday with fantastic memories.

I have been to Jamaica a lot of times now and stayed at many different hotels, varying ratings.

Initially we were greeted with rum punch cocktails, when we arrived at the resort. The introduction to the resort was sort of told to everyone at once, without prior notification, but we couldn't hear a thing really. It would have been better served by having a queue, taking the time to have a personal touch service and having more staff to undertake this from the start. Also a resorts pamphlet or leaflet would be useful to have, to refer to.

I can say this is the only hotel where I felt the staff appeared very standoffish, yet a sense of expectation to obligingly tip the staff was expected. I felt I wasn't getting any attention if I didn't, and was shunned and given minimal service and certainly limited conversations if I didn't.

We were not happy with the cottage and was upgraded to a more spacious and luxurious room (by their standards) it was fine, near the front of the resort, near the resort shop. Considering we left and came back to the resort several times, probably worked best for us and less disturbing to other hoteliers.

The men at the gate sometimes asked our room number and sometimes didn't there was no consistency there.

The buffet meals service was the best and plenty to choose from. Forget the al la carte. Very below standard might as well serve buffet in the other dining locations. It was disgusting.
Lots of Jamaica food to choose and try though in the general eating buffet area, which is a good thing. After all, we were in Jamaica. I felt some of the British holiday makers were a bit snobbish over the food, but there was plenty of everything to choose from. Considering, you have taken the time to book and fly to a Caribbean island, expect that the food will be different, spicy and 'not the same' and they have been used to. Its a different palate. Needless to say they migrated to the chips whenever it was offered.

The only genuine person was the cleaner. The room was cleaned everyday, the towels were clean, bed made and sheets changed. The cleaner, who did not expect a tip and needless to say was deservedly rewarded.

The beach I would rate as 2 star, too much sea weed and debris, not well maintained at all, and the sea was a bit choppy. But considering it was after Hurricane Sandy it will take a bit more time to improve things.

I must agree however when the French arrived they did take over a little and seemed quite demanding at times.

The entertainment we did see, was average, apart from Saturdays nights which was Jamaican/Caribbean themed and more in keeping with our expectations.

I didnt like the idea of paying so much for internet $15 US an hour (approx £10) when if you take a $50 JA dollars (less than 50p) street taxi (wait at the bus stop with the locals) to the nearest Digicell shop, approx ten minutes away, (towards Discovery Bay) it only cost you $40.00 JA for half hour use of the internet. Just ask for the internet cafe. Its about 50 yrds up from where the taxi stops. Its a bit run down, but there's four or five desks with computer booths, Or go in the internet cafe above the shops I thinks its $50 JA dollars there.

I would recommend the Blue mountain coffee excursion bike hike but the coach driver (Derek) who was a bit overbearing with his songs on the journey, rushed us from one place to the other. I did feel we could have had more time at the falls in the mountains and he could have given us a warning about how much time we had at each location beforehand. Needless to say we were reminded constantly to tip him at the end, throughout the trip. If your not into biking maybe the Croydon Special is more suited. The Appleton rum factory and YS falls trip. Great for exotic birds and wildlife. Defo one for the cameras!

I would say do take care when travelling on the local taxis or buses. On a trip back from Port Antonio, we had gone to Boston Beach on Christmas Day, had the jerk chicken etc and the bus we got from P A was very, very overloaded and the tyres smelt like they were burning. Some of the roads are very windy. I asked the driver to stop and we got off. My motto is better to be safe than dead! On the return journey to Mo Bay our coach stopped just outside of Discovery Bay/Flamouth region. There was an unusually long traffic jam which lasted about 45 mins. We thought we might have to stay in Jamaica as we might miss our flights and would have been glad to, at the resorts expense of course). We found out there was a traffic accident and as we eventually passed, we saw at least one fatal body covered over with a sheet. It was clearly a mini bus and car, so go with your instincts. But the thing that shocked me was cars, trucks and other coaches (not ours) travelling on the other side of the road, in a disorderly fashion. There was barely space for oncoming vehicles, let alone anyone on foot.

Jamaica clearly needs to improve road safety standards and this was no example of how they are improving.

I am still looking forward to going again though. I love the sun, sea and food too much.

Room Tip: Rooms to front of the resort are best in terms of space, helpful also if you are in and out of the r...

This was our first visit to Jamaica. 22/12/12 - 5/1/12 we had a great time. The atmosphere at RDC is very friendly and laid back. The bar staff were great. The food in the buffet was not gourmet level but more than ok. I could always find something nice. The pasta bar at lunch was my favourite. The a la carte weren't anything special, in fact the buffet was probably better
We had requested a beach view hut but we got a garden hut no 33 by the adult pool. It was VERY noisy at night with a huge party going on outside the complex until 4am. We requested a move and as soon as they had an available cottage they moved us with no problem. We were moved into another garden cottage no 98. The cottages are huge, clean and very comfortable. we couldn't work out how you got a beach cottage, I offered to pay for an upgrade but was told 'it doesn't work like that'.
The evening entertainment was dismal. We spent the nights at the jetty bar (which has swings instead of bar stools), once the french disco finished there at about 8.30. The French had their own entertainment staff, which seemed to consist of lots of over excited shouting. The best entertainment is the afternoon calypso band who play by the main pool, we had some good times laughing with those chaps. New years eve was a good night, they brought in a guest singer who could actually sing and there was lots of dancing, hats and rum! doing auld lang syne with americans, canadians and jamaicans was a definite highlight (the french keep to themselves)
We did three trips which were quite pricey, the bike ride down the mountain was good fun, loved the Bob Marley trip the guides were hysterical, we laughed lots. The dunns river and booze cruise was ok, but felt a bit like herded cattle.
Ocho Rios is a good place to visit, very vibrant, and we felt perfectly safe
We would have loved to have got out and about more but there was just too much lazing around to do and beer to drink! and we ran out of time. We met loads of repeat visitors, many of whom had made friends with staff over the years and went to their homes etc.
This hotel isn't the plushest but it's the friendliest one I've ever stayed in.
They did keep asking us if we'd like to move over to the new sister hotel down the road. We went to visit it, the pool complex was huge with swim up bars, the rooms had mirrors on the ceiling (apparently it used to be Hedonism3!) but after speaking to the guests there, it appeared that the food isn't up to scratch and nothing worked, We were more than happy to stay put at RDC

Room Tip: numbers after 38 are on the quiet side of the hotel
