Beautiful beach with good shade and places to eat. Public toilets were in a bad way. Watch out for sea urchins.

Okay maybe not The Best. I have not been to all. But the water is clear, calm and warm. There is a reef with colourful fish just a few meters of shore. Lots of trees so you can shade yourself. A small mineral spring feed pool so you can clean up. And yummy food vendors who are not too pushy. Try 5 Star Chef. His festival was the best I had all of Jamaica.

Dreadful track down to the beach, but a lovely bay when you get there. Unspoilt, and friendly locals and stall holders.Someone is trying to buy the bay to develop for private tourism. please help to stop them.

We have been to Port Antonio area a few times and Winnifred Beach is our favourite place to spend a long peaceful day. Yes, you will be approached by a few vendors but you will not be hassled. If you are interested in anything - buy it - and if you aren't, a gentle no is all it takes. One must remember though that in comparison, the prices are very very reasonable and this is how these people make their living. Lots of good food available on the beach. We highly recommend a little spot near the building that was once washrooms (maybe it still is). A wonderful couple, Joy and Derrick, serve up good, reasonable food each day.

Portland has the best beaches on the island, and Winnifred is my least favorite, which still puts it ahead of anything else in Jamaica. However, Winnifred just doesn't quite do it for me. There are no waves to play in, not much reef to swim over, and getting hassled to buy stuff gets old really quick. It's an ok spot if you just want to hang out and read, but if you're looking for some active beach time, this isn't the spot. Long Bay and Boston have great waves to get bashed around by, and are also local beaches with no entry fee. Winnifred is last on my list during a good beach weather weekend.
