“Great bungalows, great scenery, great service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2014

We had an amazing time at Geejam and in the Portland Parish.

I would absolutely recommend this area and boutique hotel to those who are not afraid to take a little more time to get a truly relaxing and quiet alternative experience to the bigger, more-frequented areas of Jamaica. Portland Parish is VERY much "pre-tourist" (or post, if you consider the early heyday before the 70s) - there may not even be a t-shirt that says "Port Antonio" in print. But beautiful beaches, waterfalls, a river to float, friendly people, amazing jerk chicken/pork, street parties and kayaking to empty beaches are enough to occupy 4-5 days.

Just get a guide (message me for our man's number) to take you anywhere you want to go at a rate of about $40-60/day. "But I don't NEED a guide!" You kinda do. The roads are rough, poorly marked, and let's be honest... a guide will know the best spots. Don't kid yourself.

The Geejam's only pitfalls are a small beach, a lot of stairs and overpriced activity/driving fees. If you are fine going to outside beaches, just relaxing at their MORE than ample "waterfront relaxation area," don't mind the stairs, and have the aptitude to find a guide... then the place is perfect.

Room Tip: Room recos: We stayed in Drum & Bass (Massive deck, no awning, large room, big tub) and Ska (rou...

The wait staff was always very friendly and courteous and
The rooms were very clean and comfortable and each had a room safe for your valuables. Great maid service with fresh towels daily. Room service and their late night supper menu is great. The food at all of the restaurants (especially the Japanese) was outstanding! Wonderful breakfast bar with eggs made to order. Spotless pool and chaise lounges, floaty toys were abundant, and great unlimited drinks. The hot tub was very warm and roomy. Nice white sandy beaches and showers to wash off near the pool. There is a guy that is out between the pool and beach with a cart serving up jerk chicken and pork daily !!

The Geejam is a very special place! The location is ideal - "steep up in the mountains, floating above the sea…." Beautifully appointed bungalows are set in the lush tropical bush with breathtaking views of the ocean. On top of the hill is the Bushbar with more exquisite views and where delicious meals are served. The ambience and vibe are hard to match. There is a great bar and a pool table where guests can gather. One of the things that makes the Geejam so unique is the warmth of ALL its staff and their sincere hospitality. Getting around is so easy as they provide prompt car service to explore Port Antonio, the surrounding area and to take guests to their sister property, the Trident. It is an idyllic escape which also provides you with the opportunity to experience a more authentic Jamaica. We will be back!

Geejam is an idyllic and unique experience nestled in the hills of Port Antonio. The staff was friendly, attentive and patient. ( We traveled with a chatty 6 year old). We felt as if we were in a bungalow in the jungle, but with modern amenities such as WiFi,Netflix, sauna in bathroom and jacuzzi. Honeymooners might not ever want to leave their villa. The food and drinks were delectable. Bushbar blends traditional jamaican and japanese cuisine. However, there were pancakes, french fries and chicken fingers available for our 6 year old.

This was our first visit to Geejam and thanks to the staff( Robert and other wait staff and the drivers ) we felt as if we were visiting long time friends. We were privileged enough to meet one of the owners, Steve Beaver, who was as warm, unassuming and "hip" as his property ,Geejam. We have traveled the world ( Maldives, Vietnam, Thailand) and Geejam parallels those locations in beauty, luxury ,service and privacy.
We loved it so much, we stayed an extra day! And, we plan to return with other family members!

I had an amazing 5-night stay at Geejam in February 2014 and I can truly say that it exceeded my expectations. My aim was to escape from the hustle and bustle of London, relax and recharge my batteries. The natural setting, luxuriousness and privacy of Geejam sets it apart from other resorts. The food is of a very high standard and the chefs are only to happy to accommodate requests. The lobster and shrimp curry dishes were delicious. Having access to Trident Hotel was an added bonus - (excellent gym!!). I will definitely revisit Geejam in the not too distant future. The resort is private, the villas modern, grounds and beach immaculate and the service/Geejam Team are 5-star.

A special thank you to Newton for his excellent tour of the recording studio and to Robert for his attention to detail – second to none!

Room Tip: I stayed in Rocksteady which was immaculate and had a lovely view overlooking the Mack Bay waterfron...

Nestled in a jungle, overlooking the ocean, lies the sanctuary that is Geejam. Green surrounds you the moment you make a right turn off the coast road and take a hill a little ways up to the gated entrance. Slowly, majestically, the dark wood gate opens to a well-lit and manicured driveway that leads to the Bushbar and the 3 bedroom Villa, Sanwood. We parked and Robert welcomed us with our choice of cocktail from their drink menu. While we drank, he took my car keys and carried our four bags to our room -- amazing because they're not small bags and he took all four at once, down probably 50 or so steps to our unit. Impressive. He returned topside, and asked us to follow him to Mento, our little villa for 3 nights. The journey down from the Bushbar was spectacular. A stone path carefully carved into the landscape winds through the property, surrounded by lush greenery. Breathtakingly beautiful. Upon arriving at our cabin, we ascended the stairs and stepped inside, and once again, Geejam didn't disappoint. Predominantly white decor and dark woods, lots of light, airy, and doors that open up onto a patio overlooking the blue Caribbean Sea. Mento, as well as the other cabins, is equipped with a rainhead shower as well as a steam feature -- and big enough -- comfortably accommodating two people. Flat screen television with more than 50 channels (for those crazy enough to watch television in Eden! We preferred the beauty around us.) On the deck outside of the bathroom, a hot tub (turn it on 4 hours ahead of use) -- perfect when we got home from dinner -- relaxing in its bubbles under a mesmerizing canopy of stars. Even the bed, dressed in white high thread-count sheets and perfectly lofted pillows, was sublime. The symphony of tree
frogs and birds played softly through the trees, and sleep was divine.

For dinner, we ate twice at the Bushbar, and once at their sister property, the Trident. The Bushbar, while advertised as Japanese/Jamaican fusion, is not. The food at Trident, surprisingly, is. And quite good, to say the least. Trident's Asian-inspired menu features freshly prepared and creative sushi rolls. We tried three of them and all were delicious. Tuna tartare, yellowtail crudo and shrimp/vegetable tempura also amazing. Trident has a pretty decent Sake list too (yes, Sake in Jamaica!). Though as pricey as being in a big city, it was well worth it in quality.

Bushbar's food is good as well. On the first night, I had the sweet jerk marinated lamb chops. Phenomenal. Our last night I had the Screechy Lobster steamed in lemon and a little butter. It was perfectly cooked -- not grilled beyond doneness that compromises its texture. The hazelnut brownie with home made ice cream for dessert is an absolute must, no matter how full you are.

Breakfast, served from 7 to 10:30, was a highlight. Continental, Jamaican, and American breakfasts are available. Fresh squeezed juice. Blue Mountain coffee served from a French press. Banana pancakes with cinnamon butter and vanilla-infused maple syrup. Callaloo and sweet pepper omelet.
Rosemary hash browns. Mmmm.

If there was anything we ever needed, Robert was there to ensure our comfort. We were impressed by his professionalism and dedication to our experience at Geejam. He had a well-deserved day off the day we left, so if you're reading this Robert, thank you! You're an asset and one of the reasons Geejam will be on our repeat visit list.

Room Tip: All the rooms have unique qualities, so I think you should stay at a new one every time you go back.

My family and I came to GeeJam three times in the past year. That should tell you how much we love it. Upon arrival, the staff welcomes you in the warmest way and you feel at home. You are a part of Jamaica, not just a Joe Shmoe tourist. We loved the jungle vibe of GeeJam. It literally felt like we were in a luxurious tree house. The beach was an easy walk where you can kayak, paddle board, swim in the calm cove waters or just sleep on a nice chez lounge. Restaurant was fabulous. After one day you feel the stress fade and nature becomes the focus. Everyone we met who lives there knows the importance of the connection to nature. We loved it so much. We would love to make it our home away from home.

Room Tip: If you want a fancy, even luxurious tree house go for a bungalow like Mento or Drum and Bass. If you...
