Catcha has gotten bigger over the years but managed to keep its small property intimacy. My wife and I stayed in the new Coral Cottage and aside from a minor air-conditioner water leak (that was promptly fixed the next morning), it was delightful. We must admit that with the addition of more rooms and the expansion of Ivan's Restaurant we hope this is the last expansion this intimate property goes through.
Our stay this trip was short -- two nights. We arrived at Catcha around noon and were pleased that our room was already ready. Coral Cottage has a wonderful front porch. It provides the feeling that you are on a dais overlooking the property and sea. The porch has two chaise lounge chairs, a table with two chairs and a couch. We did a tiny bit of rearranging to suit our tastes. The room has ample storage and a large bathroom. The bed is firm but not hard. Indirect light pours in during the day and doors and windows are easily opened to allow the breeze to flow through. We wish we could have extended our three day and two night stay.
The staff at Catcha is openly friendly and a joy to be around. Service is always friendly.
Ivan's Restaurant and bar continues to serve delicious food and drink. Although service is always with a smile, it is not always swift. But this is Jamaica and fresh food prepared to order is worth waiting for when it is this good.
The plunge pool that divides the restaurant and bar from the swimming and lounging areas is a welcome addition. It was kept spotlessly clean for the three days we were on property. There is plenty of sunny and shaded lounge space so there is no need to hustle to a chaise at 6:30 in the morning to "reserve" a spot. Access to and from the sea is either easy (for those willing to take a small leap) to a tiny bit awkward (for those who only use the ladders). The small cove can be amazingly calm or stunningly rough, and everything in between -- it all depends on the weather and prevailing winds. A lifeguard was on duty every day we were there. We felt safe.
We took a walk past Rick's Cafe to the lighthouse and beyond and did stop into LTU for a snack. There are many properties within easy walking distance so you are not in need of a rental car. If you do need to travel a bit, the taxis are reasonable -- but remember to always ask the fare before getting in.
It was nice to be recognized by one of the owners and many on staff as returning guests -- one of the advantages of returning to an intimate property.
We would highly recommend this property for those who are willing to relax. If you are uptight in any way this property will not suit you. There are many imperfections here as there are in nearly every vacation property in Jamaica. However, Catcha has a special charm to it and a vibe that tends to fill you with joy. It begs, just breathe!
