We spent a week at Catcha with our teenage daughters, and very much enjoyed our stay. The hotel is located on the cliffs with fabulous views particularly from the second floor balconies. The hotel is very private, and seemed to be very safe and secure. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful. We stayed in the Aquarius 2-bedroom unit. The unit has air-conditioning in the bedrooms, and there is a small kitchen set-up suitable for preparing small meals (fridge, microwave, dual hotplate, and sink). The bathroom was fine, but could benefit from a little attention and perhaps some updating. Having said that, you don't come to the cliffs of Negril to stay in the bathroom so this is just a minor comment. The beds were comfortable, and the maid service was very good. On one or two nights we were disturbed by dogs barking. I don't know if this is common, but it was rather tiresome at 3.00AM, and went on for a long time. One of the big advantages about staying at Catcha is Ivan's restaurant which is set overlooking the ocean. We didn't find anywhere to eat dinner that was better in terms of location, food, or service. The prices seemed reasonable as well given the location and standard. A main course for dinner was typically around $20, and cocktails were around $6-8. Ivan's also serves breakfast and lunch. Catcha is not for you if you like to stay close to a sandy beach or you like a large swimming pool. There is a tiny pool, and no beach. However, there are a number of ladders providing access from the cliffs to the sea for swimming, and there is coral right in front of the hotel making it a good location for snorkeling and diving. (Note that there is a diving store just a short walk down the road if you want to dive.) During our visit we saw a stingray in front of the hotel, and of course lots of tropical fish. There were also some jelly fish present, but that has little to do with Catcha. Some might find getting in and out of the sea to be a little challenging. During our stay, the sun was setting just after 6PM. All the rooms face west so the sunsets are a gem (provided the weather cooperates). Catcha is a good distance from 7 mile beach, and the stores. Much too far to walk even if you do want to risk walking along the road. There are however a few good eating places nearby. Try the burgers across the street at Ahhh Bees (recommended by Catcha). The best ones are the regular burgers and the chicken burgers. (Don't order the snapper burger. It is mainly potato. And be warned - the jerk seasoning is very spicy.) For lunch you probably just want Ahhh Bees mini burger. Further down the street is 3 Dives restaurant. Worth a visit for a late lunch. And heading past the lighthouse is Just Natural - a very inexpensive unique and basic restaurant serving seafood and vegetarian dishes with basic seating in the rear gardens. (You will likely need a taxi or car to get to Just Natural.) We also visited Rick's Cafe and Rockhouse restaurant. Personally, I would give both a miss. One downside of Catcha's close proximity to Rick's Cafe is the arrival of large catamarans every afternoon bringing tourists to visit Rick's. It is not all that bad, but from 6-7.30PM a mediocre band starts up which can become rather tiring after the first few days with little variation in their offerings. Overall, Catcha is well worth a visit if you like great views, enjoy privacy, and like boutique hotels. The minimum age is 15 so Catcha tends to attract couples, or families with older children. A good choice if you are looking for a romantic setting.
