The first thing one must keep in mind, is that this is Jamaica, not the U.S. Okay, with that out of the way, by small boutique-hotel standards, Idle has everything we could have hoped for. Very nice and polite staff that are attentive. Maid service that kept our room very clean and with nice fresh sheets. The restaurant is nothing special, but the breakfast and the curries were quite acceptable, if not good. I don't care for the all-inclusives, partly because I like to venture out a little and eat in different restaurants, so we were not at all bothered by the limited menu.
The beach is gorgeous. Yes, of course you get somewhat annoying vendors as you bask in the sun, but again, it's Jamaica. If you find the solicitations really bother you, you should vacation in another country. I accept it as part of the culture that (by the way), I am visiting. The massages right on the beach next to the bar were fabulous and inexpensive. The water was very clear, clean and warm, just perfect.
Highlights near the hotel were: Miss Sonia's incredibly wonderful and truly homemade patties. Yummmmm! Only a block or so accross the street. Bo Bo and Michael run a nice little jerk chicken stand directly accross the street. Nice guys. Various clubs that have special live reggae music nights. Ask around about which ones have live acts on what nights. 3 Dives resstaurant is a short cab drive away, but well worth it. The huge grilled lobster plate and views are a huge treat.
We loved the vibe of the place and will return as soon as possible. In fact, we're booking for October now!
