If your looking for a nice quiet spot on the beach to recharge, Idle Awhile is the right place for you.
The room: we stayed in 105 which is right off the beach. Nice, spacious rooms and a huge patio. This room was great. I'm struggling to come up with any criticism. Shower tip: point the long end of the handle to West for hot water.
The beach: what can I say, 7 mile beach is just gorgeous. This part of the beach is a bit quieter than closer to Margaritaville. Surf is perfect. We saw stingrays everyday. Gumby and Aaron help keep your stay on the beach secure and comfortable.
Food: Chill Awhile is the bar/restaurant on the beach. We ate their a few times. Hits for us include banana pancakes, fish burger, and jerk chicken pasta. Idle Awhile is a regular stop for the Jerk Pork guy (can't miss him... he's the one with the steel box surrounded by tourists and locals alike... usually comes around 12:30)... can't be missed. Best in the West is right across the street. Our best meals were at Push Cart and Ivan's.
Staff: friendly, reliable service. The staff is there to make your stay as comfortable as possible. And they take pride in their work.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Idle Awhile.

Stayed for two nights in September and boy did I wish I was there longer. This establishment is very small which makes it cozy and the employees get to know you very fast. As you head to the pristine beach there is someone there waiting to get you a chair and places it for you. This is not an all inclusive hotel, however there is a good selection of food which is averaged price. They even served us breakfast on the beach one morning. The restaurant is not open very late however there is many other properties walking distance away. You are also near Ricks Café which makes for a great night out!
What makes this hotel incredible is its location on the seven mile beach!

My wife and I were looking for a small hotel on 7 Mile Beach, and we decided to give Idle Awhile a try. The grounds look like a lush tropical garden. Palm trees line the path from the rooms to the beach.

One plus we liked immediately were the complimentary water bottles. The fountain with the purified, filtered water right outside our room was convenient. Most people are not aware that the most popular bottled water in Jamaica, Wata, contains salts which can cause your legs to retain water and swell. It's happened to my wife before and it can be very uncomfortable.

We opted to try the restaurant as my wife was tired. The staff was very flexible and told us that if we wanted something we didn't see on the menu to just ask. We both opted for grilled red snapper which was wonderful. The accompanying rice and peas, however, were dry. No problem, we switched our sides the next night.

Breakfasts were very good. I tried both the cinnamon and banana pancakes. The bacon was crisp as well and coffee was plentiful.

I have some minor comfort complaints about our deluxe room. There were no drawers in the room at all. Another quibble was the absence of a soap dish in the bathroom.

If you are looking for a relaxing place on the beach that is quiet without being funereal, you should give Idle Awhile a chance.

I have been going to Idle Awhile for years. Usually I travel with a friend, but have made a few visits solo. Over Thanksgiving I brought the whole damn family!! 3 adult children, spouses, myself and 2 grandchildren (ages 4 and one that turned 7 during our trip). Everyone had a very relaxing, entertaining week. I love the staff and the grounds. Much time is spent in keeping the grounds and the beach clean and manicured. They put time and money into keeping the property in good repair, something not all properties do. Great air conditioning and good internet! Another fabulous trip!

We always split our trip between the cliffs and beach. Although, we have stayed at several different places on the cliffs, we never stay anywhere but IA while on the beach. The staff has become like a second family to us and always make us feel welcome year after year. The grounds are kept immaculate by Eric and he takes great pride in his work. Ask him to show you where the humming bird has made her nest that year. Karim, who works in the office, is always willing to help with whatever you might need and the staff at bar and restaurant, Sonia, Jenny, Carlton, King and Jermaine give great customer service. My only negative comment would be about a certain vendor who goes by the name "Flower" or "Berry". He hangs around the area and feels like it is his job to chase away the dogs that might come along looking for a drink of water or a morsel of food. Every year I have an issue with him but this is not any fault of Idle Awhile and I would never stop coming there because of him. Just hoping he will find some compassion in his heart towards these dogs who just want someone to friend them.

Room Tip: Every room has something unique about it.

The Negril beach can get very hectic and you may get overwhelmed by the melting pot of tourists and beach vendors. Idle Awhile was a fantastic gem in the middle of it all and the services/amenities were unlike any other we found on the beach at a very reasonable price. Definitely would go back!
