We visited Jamica Jan 25th for 2 weeks . Jamiacan's were very friendly and it is hard to fault your stay here. But there were some small dissapointments. The hotel is situated in a bay , which stays shallow for quite a way , so the sea is quite calm ,allowing sport activities to be used , even with strong winds. However the downside is that occasionally , because of the swell the sea is not so clear.

The beach is beautiful and i do not see much differences between this hotel and Rui Tropical , although Negril is the newer of the 2.
The beach runs along the whole stretch of the hotel and no matter what block your room is in, you can walk straight out onto the beach and there is a beach bar at the far end, & the pool bar at the other ! Plus no need to fight for deck chairs here.

Having stayed in other Rui hotels we were a little dissapointed though . We were not allowed to be served drinks/food at the Tropical Bay hotel so never used there facilities- . so the nights & days can be a bit samey.
The entertainment was really poor compared with the other Rius we'd stayed in and nor was the food . Although it was still good .

We are both quite active and enjoy a good drink , and enjoyed our holiday but would probably not go back to this hotel as weve had better . Been spoilt!

Just arrived home after spending 2 weeks at this resort. It is the first RIU Hotel I have stayed in but the fourth for my Fiance. I was really impressed with how clean the hotel was and the groundsmen who work hard throughout the day to keep the grounds immaculate.

The watersports facilities are excellent. There is an area which is for bathers only and it covers most of the beach. This is a result as I as the jetbike blokes whistle and harrass you to be ripped off on a ride of their machines! A 'No thank you' does the trick.

It is perfectly safe to walk down the beach to the RIU Hotel Tropical and you can walk beyond. Beware if you venture into the 'Couples' resort as they appear to have a small beach for nudists! Several of the people in our resort commented on the laughs they had as they passed through!

The bar staff in the 'Bar Salon' where the evening entertainment takes place don't require tipping. However the Yanks seem to tip them and consequently the bar staff tend to ignore other customers as they become money orientated. There is a very tall chap who's the Manager and keeps them in check and can remember four very big drinks orders drink for drink! Well impressed.

The food is superb and neither of us had a dodgy stomach. Just make sure the chicken from the 'Jerk Hut' is cooked thoroughly. There is a dress code which some previously mentioned people failed to adhere to and thought it was ok to wear their swimming costumes to the evening meal. The staff only asked the male party's to change which is a shame. Quite a lot of people make and effort but some don't. If you visited the RIU in Rivera Mia in Mexico you'd be told to dress properly or no food! Also some of the previously mentioned people clearly left their manners at home and felt it right to forget to say 'please' and 'thank you'. Manners go a long way and the staff respond better to this than being bribed!

The waiter/resses are superb two of note were Agri and Winston who were both exceptional.

Make sure you take some Mosquito repellent and perhaps a plug in socket room repellent too. We found that a couple of mossies slipped in through the door during the day and night. However the bites don't itch and swell up like they do when biten by the ones in Europe!

The evening entertainment wasn't up to much but everyone's tastes are different. Would we go again? Yes, but we would leave it a few years as we did a lot of the trips so we've seen most of the countryside. Its also a bit far to go for a week from Europe and hence we'd recommend you do it for two.

Two couples stayed at ClubHotel Riu in mid February, 2005, for a week. Weather was the best. Not a drop of rain. Food, rooms, staff, beach were wonderful. We were given the last 2 rooms in bldg 2 near the road and the traffic at night kept us awake. Nor was it enjoyable to sit on the deck first thing in the morning with a cup of coffee because of the traffic noise. We requested room changes and were accomodated with water view! We could sleep peacefully with the door open. They have a serious mild dew problem which we could get rid of by keeping the fan running at all times. Our friend's room bathroom shower ceiling was black with mildew. They did come in & paint it one day & we had not mentioned it to them. We glanced in a slightly opened door in the hallway and the pipes & walls in there were covered with fuzzy mold and the smell was terrible. If it weren't for the mildew smell, we would definitly return next year because everything else about the resort was wonderful. But the resort is only a little more than a year old and we're afraid the mildew smell will be in all rooms. Maybe it was just bldg 2? This is our 3rd trip to Jamaica and the Jamaican people are so friendly. We came home with great tans. We enjoyed at lot of sunfish sailing. They didn't seem to mind how far out we went and as long as we could see one sailboat still sitting on the beach they didn't say anything about how long we stayed out.

We stayed here in January of 2005 with a group of people as we were attending a friend's wedding. I had read reviews before going where people complained of not getting fresh towels and not getting service at the bars because the bartenders would service those giving tips and I have to say that I did not experience any of these issues. I did receive fresh towels everyday although the rooms were sometimes not cleaned until the afternoon but there are four large buildings for the cleaning personnel to clean so that probably explains that. The bartenders were always quick to take our orders and it is alot of fun to be able to try so many different drinks. If you don't like a drink, just order another one. The grounds were immaculate. The water is not crystal clear but not "murky" like I read in some of the reviews. Had it been as bad as I read, I would never have entered the water but since it wasn't, I was in the ocean many times. All of the restaurants that require reservations were very good but I have to say the one closest to the buffet was the best! I had one of the best meals ever at that restaurant (sorry, I can't recall the name). The wedding itself was beautiful. It was on the beach, in the afternoon and the wedding coordinator did a wonderful job. I would definitely stay at this resort again if I go back to Jamaica.

We were at the Riu Negril from February 13-27 as a last minute booking. We were originally booked for the Riu Bachata, Dominican Republic, but we changed due to a serious illness at that resort. We prefer cruises but we decided on a beach vacation this year and we had a splendid time at the Riu Negril. The staff were excellent, especially Melesha in housekeeping, we had fresh flowers in our room everyday. Andre in the dining room was superior, he was always working hard from breakfast to dinner. The resort is beautiful and very, very clean. The food was wonderful, especially the Jerk Hut on the beach. The resort is located on a bay so the ocean is calm and tranquil and you can walk for miles in the ocean that is aqua green. Our favourite part of the resort was the fish sanctuary, we spent hours everyday feeding the fish. It is an excellent opportunity to see ocean creatures in their own habitat, blowfish, starfish, angel fish, tiger fish.

We highly recommend this resort and would return in a heartbeat.

We spent a week at the ClubHotel Riu Negril the week of Feb. 20, to the 27th, 2005 The rooms were spacious, lovely, and well maintained. The cleaning staff bent over backwards to keep us happy.

The meals were excellent. There was a great deal of variety in the food offered and the format in which it was presented. I wasn't crazy about having to be in line to choose a dinner restaurant by 8 am, though. I'd prefer to 'sleep in' on a vacation!

If you go to ClubHotel Riu Negril, by ALL means do NOT miss eating at the "Jerk Hut"on the beach! The chicken, pork ribs and sausage jerk was simply "to die for"! You can't get anything even vaguely resembling it in a bottle or jar!

The entertainment staff was all wonderful and made their offerings fun for everyone - from the youngest guest to the oldest guest! It was great. Yet, if you needed some privacy and seclusion, that was available, too. This is a "something for everyone" sort of resort. I would go back there in a heartbeat!

We took a catamaran day trip to Half Moon Bay which was great fun. We snorkeled for about an hour and had a delicious luncheon on the beach.

The water aerobics instructor got more guests up and into the water than I've ever seen before. His workouts were fabulous. I'd love to have a copy of the music he used! It kept everybody involved.

Just didn't have one single complaint in the whole week. Weather, food, drinks, staff - everything was wonderful!

Just came back from a 1 week family vacation in Jamacia .This was our second time there. The resort was amazing ,the best vacation we have ever had .The only thing that needed to we worked on was the kids club it was not well organized at all, how ever our kids aged 6 and 7 did not mind the time with mom and dad on the beach and at the pool all day. The food was great ,and even with our pickey eaters the varity was too good to be true ,from the all you can eat lobster night to the mexican night with tacos there was never a lack of food . Highly reccomed this one !! We will definatley be planning another trip to this restort.
