just back from 2 weeks at the Riu Negril and like all Riu hotels we have stayed at I was not disappointed.Stayed in block 2 and room clean with good air con and fan. Neil at the outside bar in the evening was great and even had our drinks ready as soon as he saw us coming. The rep for Thomsons was really helpful and great to talk to which is always an added bonus. Hotel grounds and beach good lots of vendors walking up and down the beach all day, but they are not allowed onto the hotel past a certain point of the beach. Look out for Cheap Charlie I got some bargains with dresses :-). Hotel food was good except you have to book 2 days in advance for the steakhouse, italian or gourmet restaurants, this is done at 8am in the morning and by 9am you have no chance. Get your gifts etc from the airport, I thought i have got some bargains from the beach vendor shacks, but could have got them as lot cheaper at the airport. Only things letting hotel down are not enough sun loungers by the pool, if your not quick enough in the morning they go quickly as hotel is nearly always full. Could do with some parasols or similar on the beach as not many places to sit in shade. Some guests let the swim up bar down by staying in the water all day at the bar and the only time I went in it stank of urine!!! Animation shows mixed bag, however the Michael Jackson, mama mia and Fire King shows were great. If you like Jamaican rum, join in the games as the prizes are not just a certificate but a bottle of rum :-) All in all a great 2 weeks away from the English winter, would defo go back ya mon

Stayed with my sister at RIU Negril last October. We enjoyed it. The Staff was attentive and friendly. The room, even though it was very clean, was very musty and the comforter was very dreary and thin. The bathroom was also very clean. Somehow though, the beach was not as inviting at this location when compared to Montego Bay and Ocho Rios. The sand was very 'muddy' , felt different against your feet. The food was pretty good, not greasy and a comfortable selection of vegetables and fruits. Could not find enough fish though...The property was very nice, however we were a bit truned off on entering and seeing a barage of staff congregating along the driveway waiting for transportation it appeared. Overall good experience.

Just back from a two week stay at this fabulous resort. Great clean room, great food.
Lovely beach with plenty of sun loungers. Entertainment staff do such a good job during the day and also the evening, putting on plenty of shows. The people giving some negative reviews must be staying at another hotel - nothing negative here! Did not see any bugs at all and did not get bitten either. The Thomson ref. Christine is a real gem (our Jamaican mama). All staff extremely friendly and helpful and we would definitely stay here again

Room Tip: Rooms in block 1 are nearer the amenities if you don't want far to walk.

This is the second time my husband and I stayed at the Riu Negril, we stayed there from January 14-21 and we were there for a wedding. I already had an idea of what to expect since I had stayed there previously but it wasn't until othere guests pointed things out that I discovered things. At each of the bars you could smell the stench of dirty....after working many years in a bar/lounge atmosphere it was clearly a smell that I smelt at the end of each night...the mats were not being cleaned at all. The groom from our wedding party pointed out that they don't wash the glasses at the bar....three seperate times he was at the bar and watched them rinse the cups out and then turn them over and use them again....they did not wipe the rims of the glasses at all.

We found that the a la carte was also frustrating due to the fact that you had to book 2 days in advance and then when you wanted to book everything was already full anyways...it was a very unorganized process.

The buffet was alright, there was something for everyone which was nice when traveling with so many people of different ages...the kids were happy with the constant flow of fries and pizza.

The jerk chicken hut on the beach is defintely worth trying....very good!

The spa was absolutely awesome...best massage I have ever had in my life....so relaxing.

I was annoyed with the fact that we had two rooms since there was 7 of us traveling and they DID NOT accomodate us at all to have our rooms across the hall from each other....they didn't move us all week...they seemed to not think it was important.

The thing that will make me NOT return to this resort is not anything the resort specificall has down but the fact that we would have to take a SUNWING flight to get there since they are exclusive to Sunwing....I will not fly them again or recommend them to any one else either.

Room Tip: Ask for building one so when you have to go back to the front desk because your key doesn't work...

My wife and myself just spent a week at the Riu Negril Jan 25TH- Feb. 1ST. The place is quite nice and very friendly. Check-in was fast, we asked for ocean view and got a room facing the ocean but behind a butch of trees but not a big deal. The room was very clean, not much vodka in the bar but was replaced the next day after asking. Rhoan made sure it was full and the fridge was stocked. There were no alarm clocks in the rooms so had to ask for a wake up call and the girl at the front desk said sure for a tip? The food was good with a variable variety, always a good breakfast. No bar service around the pool thou, must be so you don,t drink as much. The beach was nice always clean in the morning and lots of sunbeds. If you want to be around the pool towel down by 7:00 AM or forget it Entertainment was great, loved the micheal Jackson show. Steak supper was great at Shadows. They have great cab drivers at the hotel, who will take you where you want, ask for one at the front entrance they drop you off and pick you up when you want to return, or wait for you if not to long. They were changing the TVs to 32 inch flat screens from the small ones that are there now. Air worked great in the room just make sure your patio door is closed or won,t come on. All in All was a great resort, but far from 5 star I would say 3 1/2. I would recommend this resort just don,t expect no 5 Star.

Room Tip: Try to get a room down a wing away from the road on the street side. Noisy

We arrived on the 26th Jan for two weeks. We where met at the hotel by staff with smiling faces and a cocktail. Checkin was quick and an explanation on how to get to our room was easy. We had a lovely room and with a sea view. Due to a family bereavement our stay there was cut short after only 3 day. Our whole experience there was excellent with wonderful service , food and very clean. I can't believe anyone giving this bad reviews. They must have stayed at a different place. The service and help the Thomson rep Christine (Jamaican mama) gave us in our hour of need was nothing short of brilliant. She is a credit to both Jamaica and Thomson. A lovely sympathetic woman . I would recommend this hotel to anybody

Room Tip: Ask for sea view
