“Endless Excellence”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2013

I was invited to a trip to Jamaica to celebrate my friends mother's 50th birthday. After reading reviews, looking at pictures.....Riu Club Hotel is worth every star and then some! The ride from the airport is about 2hrs give or take the crazy left hand side driving....once you arrive you won't want to leave!!!! I could wax poetic all day about the place but I know you just want the "tips" so here I go.

1. Try to get an early flight in so that at the very least you can check in and head to the beach or pools with your bags safely in the lobby while your room gets ready

2. Do eat at Don Fresh's Lobster Shack to right of the beach!!!! Andrew and Paul will serve you with a smile....lobster and crab caught right out of the very ocean you swim in!!!!! This meal will be life changing..Thank me later or put me in your will (they are not part of the resort but worth every penny) $20 for freshly caught grilled lobster with the BEST garlic toast on the planet!!! I was there 5 days and ate there 4 days! Lol

3. The "a la carte" restaurants book up fast, nothing to write home about and nothing to stand in line at 8am to make a reservation for. We ate at sir Andrews' which is their "fine dining French" place......boring and slow

4. Chairs by the pool with the swim up bar are all "taken" by 9am.....if u wanna lay out go to the damn beach! The pool is for swimming and drinking! Lol

5. There are fun beach activities do as little or as much as you want

6. Bring the spontaneous you, there will be people all over talking and laughing with you don't be afraid to make new friends

7. Please tip!!!! Just because its all in exclusive does not mean their extraordinary service should go unnoticed!

8. Ladies wear your cover ups when dining at the buffet to avoid any "hey u can't wear that" situation

9. Jerk chicken hut.....lol, it's on the beach, it's free, it's delicious

10. If you want a slower pace book the Riu palace....I took a walk on the beach to their property....boring

For any more fun tips and facts email me at vicious_thoughts@yahoo.com

And to Riu's management: please send my thanks and hugs to Kedesha and Suye at the front desk, Sherwayne and Maximo on the beach, Kelly, Garth, Fabio and Romio at the bars and last but not least Phillip by luigi's.......Awesome Job and You have earned a loyal patron of your hotel and of your beautiful country!!!!

This is a 90 min to 2 hour bus ride from airport. It also a couple of hours or more from attractions. Check in was a breeze. Got to our room and AC just barely worked room very warm, ceiling fan so noisely (whoop, whoop, whoop) That we had to turn it off. TV had a broken cord so would not work. Call down to front dest, they said they would send someone right up. Called back 1/2 hour later and again after another 1/2 hour. After the third 1/2 hour and still no one to fix problems and still no lugage, we went to front desk. Lady said give her a half hour or so and she would see what she could do. Not a good way to start your vacation. We went to the bar for a drink. There were other people "complaining" at the same time about problems. HINT, I was polite and asked can you please help me. I was upgraded to one of the 9 corner suites in the building. Sometimes being nice and a $ 5 tip works best.
The staff were all very friendly and helpfull. The breakfast and lunch buffett were OK but very much the same each day and got boring by day 3. Supper buffett was much better with, roast duck 1 day, roast chicken once and filet once. Made reservations for the Gourmet as they are worth it. Since this our 2 trip to Jamaica we only went shoping and to Ricks. The little mall was OK but I would skip the "craft fair" as even after bargining down asking price to 1/2 to 3/4 of what they wanted, I found much of the same stuff at the mall cheaper. YES you are expected to bargin.
Bottom line for the RIU everything was good for what you paid for. If you want top shelf then pay more money and stay somewere else. If you want a nice vacation at a good price the RIU gave good value

Room Tip: 4 buildings for rooms. building 4 and far side of building 3 are aprox 500 + yds from main complex...

We just got back from spending our honeymoon at the Riu Negril. We arrived New Year's Eve, before we were even done checking in we had a rum punch in our hands. When we told them it was our honeymoon they upgraded us to an oceanview room and we found a fruit plate and message in our room. The maids made us towel animals everyday (it doesn't take much to make me happy) and the service was just incredible. New Year's Eve was live music, lobster and champagne - what a great way to start the week. We were able to get into all 3 of the upper scale restaurants (having to line up and book at 8 a.m. was the only negative) and they were all fabulous and the buffets everyday were great. We discovered that we could also have a meal at the sister Riu down the beach. We have been spoiled by the entertainment on cruises but the staff that put on the shows worked really hard and as we got to know them all week (as they also did the entertainment during the day) we enjoyed the shows more and more. The steel band was amazing and the staff at the Riu can really dance. The beach was great, because we were at the end we didn't get bothered too much by the locals and even when we walked the rest of Bloody Bay if you said you weren't interested they left you alone. We did a day trip to Ochos Rios and it gave us a good overview of Jamaica as we drove through the country side for a few hours and we climbed Dunn River Falls which was an experience. We did go to a local Craft area and the locals were really aggressive, again you just had to say no but we didn't stay for very long. We also took a caterman party boat out to Rick's Cafe to watch the cliff divers and that was awesome. We didn't find the resort overly busy, we always found a pool or beach chair, you didn't have to wait long to be served at the bar (try the Hummingbird cocktail) and everyone was really friendly. Overall we were really glad we took our honeymoon here, it was our first all inclusive and the service was amazing.

Room Tip: Make sure you get an oceanview room, the garden view could be just looking at a few trees and the co...

We stayed at the RIU Club Jan 5-11, 2013. After we had booked I was skeptical due to reviews about food poisoning. The property and beach was great. Everything was great until our last night. We ate at Shadows, the steakhouse. We had a group of 3, and 2 of 3 got food poisoning. We were sick within on hour of eating.

I did report to hotel personnel, but got the response that no one else got sick. Well I really don't care, and that may or may not be true. I know it was food poisoning. I was hoping they would use the information to make improvements on their food preparation practices in hope that others can have a vacation free of food poisoning.

Best hotel in all aspects! will definitely return. The food was amazing, the buffet along with the different restaurants, friendly and helpful workers and clean grounds overall. We were there for new years eve and they really helped to make it a great night, they organized a great show. As for other nights, the entertainment was really good, they had different shows every night that were always entertaining. The water on the beach was clean and clear and the weather was excellent. I really have nothing bad to say about the hotel, and i cant wait to return in the future!! great experience.

Was not excited about going there. Thought we would be disappointed and bored. Was I wrong!! The hotel, the food, the staff, were wonderful. We cannot wait to return. The buffet was of excellent quality at all times. The grounds and rooms were spotless.

Room Tip: Ask for building closest to the lobby. There is a lot of walking. If you have a problem with stairs...

Checked in Janaury 4 and Christmas was still there as the tree and other decorations were still up. Hotel is extravagant and lush with many bars around the place. I found that the Front desk personnel were often rude. I took my daughter and mother who celebrated her 82nd birthday which she enjoyed as there was plenty food and drink. Enjoyed the food as there was a lot to choice from either American or Carribean. At night two restaurants needed reservations, but each time I went to book, they were fully booked 2 days in advance. One night there was no water - they told guests it was a local (Negril) problem but management was working on it! It came back later that night. All inclusive therefore drinks at the bar and mini bar in the room were included with package. I felt that we didn't take full advantage of all the amentities as we went out each day we were there, conseuqently did not eat lunch during the time we were there as most days we did not have lunch at the hotel only breakfast and dinner. They should therefore offer 1/2 inclusive breakfast and dinner only! The beach was close to the hotel, but so many people on the beach however, on our last day there were many activities in and around the pool/beach area which we participated in. Could find a seat at the pool as many quests placed their belongings on selected chairs therefore the chairs around the pool were always taken from very early in the morning. The location is too far from all the action, because each time we went out it cost $15 each way by the cab service located within the hotel. We did book a tour and went to Ocho Rios spending the whole day away from the hotel arriving back at 8:30p.m.
We attended a wedding at Beaches where other family members were staying. We spent the entire day of the wedding at Beaches and were treated much better there than Riu. Beaches personnel were much more friendly and wanted to ensure your time there was the best.
Next time I would stay at Beaches instead of Riu.
