We walked across the street to this small restaurant from Tensing Pen after a LONG day. We were excited to chow down on some authentic local Jamaican food, and our appetites were big. When we got sat down, instead of receiving menus, we were told that they do burgers only, and that it was late so beef burgers were the only kind left. Feeling a little disappointed, we couldn't decide if we wanted to stay or try Alice's or Shark's instead...
...We were very, very glad we stayed. Whenever I am asked about my most memorable meals at restaurants, my mind will surely travel back to this night. The Jerk Beef Burger dressed was one of my favorite burgers I have had in my lifetime. BIG, juicy, perfectly cooked to a medium, and damn tasty. The lightly toasted buttery buns and locally sourced fresh fixings were flavorful and crisp. The fries were pretty standard, but a great complement to the burger and good scoopers of what jerk sauce might have dribbled off the burger and onto my plate.
The limited alcoholic selection is very cheap for a touristy neighborhood. With Rick's and Ivan's within a stones throw, one would have thought this place would be costlier. I honestly wish we had just gone here for every meal. It turns out the server/cook/only person working at the time was Aubie himself, a very friendly Canadian ex-pat who likely has emigrated friends hanging out at the restaurant at any time...probably because they know where the best food in Negril is.
