“great vibe, lovely spot”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

Just spent 2 nights at Samsara Cliffs and enjoyed every second. Amazing swimming, cute bar, very nice staff. Great Italian restaurant -- Ciao Jamaica -- across the street and same owners. Beach access via Legends hotel, which also has a great beach-side restaurant and bar.

Room Tip: 1B looked like a great room -- has a hammock!

My family (wife and 2 teen age children) and I just returned from a 6 night stay at Samsara from December 24 through December 30, 2012. We had a very good vacation. The rooms were large, spotless and well appointed. We had ocean view rooms (I think they all are) with large balconies. We have been to Jamaica many times (Sandals, Beaches, FDR) and found Samsara to be an excellent value. We opted for the all-inclusive option, which we felt was a good deal. We liked the quiet openness of being up on the cliffs. The swimming pool was sparkling and we enjoyed not having to fight for pool chairs, the whole place was very laid back and friendly. The meals weren't gourmet, but lunch and dinner always had 3 entrees and you could have eggs cooked to order on every breakfast.

We traveled on the resort bus 2 days to the sister property Legends, and swam in the ocean and walked the seven mile beach...it was nice but we enjoyed going back to the more spacious and quiet Samsara. I have read other reviews more critical of the resort, and I'm not sure of the expectations of others, but my family and I had a great time there and would definitely return.

Room Tip: We took the air conditioning option and felt it was well worth it

This hotel is cool. It is the perfect place for those who are divers and enjoy cliff jumping. It is clean. You do have to pay extra for air conditioning and the internet. It is a local resort and low key. It is not like the RIU or the Grand Palladium. You can take the shuttle down to their sister property Legends resort. If you miss the shuttle a cab ride is $2 each way. It is very close to Ricks Cafe. I like the buffet at Legends. It cost $20. They have the best cake.

Me and my boyfriend stayed for 11 days in October(and was there for hurricane Sandy). It was our first trip to Jamaica and my first trip out of the country. We booked online through AAA and got a good deal, although we splurged for the pillar house, which was awesome and worth paying a little extra for. We wanted privacy so I was a bit disappointed when they put us in the pillar house next to the bar/restaurant but it was really nice I must admit because it was never noisy and we could sometimes hear the music playing in the bar while sitting on our porch which was nice because it was all reggae and sometimes a live band would play. Check in service was friendly and they helped us carry our bags up the stairs to our room We are not really into drinking so we did not do an all inclusive, plus we wanted to get out in the area and eat a lot of different food(we did find out they offer a single meal plan but didn't get it). We ate at the hotel the first night to settle in, it was Jamaica night and they served a variety of Jamaican staples and we tried a bit of everything- average food with a few things I enjoyed it was a buffet so it worked out ok. Service for dinner was stilted and curt, not rude but distant. One morning we tried the breakfast buffet which was really nice, made to order omelets, plantains, coffee, juice and tons of fresh fruit! The girls serving the buffet at breakfast were more friendly. I read reviews before we went and brought beach towels, the bath towels would be taken for a bit to be washed and replaced about a couple hours later fresh. Rooms were clean and comfy, patio on the pillar house is the best, would sit in the hammock reading for hours.Outdoor shower was pretty neat, our room had a lot of privacy but thankfully we had no neighbors in pillar house next to ours because we could see into their shower! It was really windy during the time we stayed at the hotel so the cliffs were not the best place to sit most days and could only jump into the ocean one day, pool was nice though and had the option to go to Legends to use the beach. The hotel was amazing at preparing for Sandy and took our safety seriously and moved us to a different room. Cliffs were pretty dangerous for a few days and had to use common sense and keep a distance but was amazing watching the waves. The staff worked really hard to clean up afterwards. The grounds staff were always working really hard and were there pretty much all day. I did read reviews of the owner being rude while he was never rude to us he did seem to bark a this staff and speak down to them. Overall the grounds are beautiful, views from the cliffs are wonderful! Rooms are neat, clean and unique. Food was so-so I would recommend to get out in the area (great restaurant across the street called Choices that serves good breakfast for a good price, if you see Grace say hi) Nice quiet hotel with laid back atmosphere and peaceful surroundings. Would stay again.

Room Tip: Rooms across the street are also offered no view but nice garden courtyard available. It looked li...

We stayed for a week at Samsara, 6 women just out of college during spring break. We booked through a travel agency so I assumed it would be great. Not so much. We arrived late at night and the van that brought us was packed like sardines. We were sitting on our luggage, and the driver pulled over at one point to roll a joint! So we pull up outside and there are buildings on either side that say 'Samsara'. The first one looks abandoned, no lights and broken old pool furniture stacked in the window. This should've been a clue, looking back on it. The building on the other side was also delapitated, but there was a light on inside of it. We went in and had to ring a bell- over and over. Finally a man showed up and was not happy about our late arrival. He showed up to our room, which was very dangerous with no lighting on any of the paths. When we entered the room I thought it was a joke. The mattresses were thin and saggy, the a/c that was supposedly included was there---- but it was rusted and had holes all around where it was mounted into the wall. It was hotter than anything in that room no matter what we did. The shower was disgusting and reminded me of middle school gym class. The floor had a hole in the bottom of the cement cut out, no drain. It must've been painted over and over and there was no water pressure OR warm water ever. The porch was falling apart and there were boards with nails sticking out. The pool and hot tub were not operational. The food was terrible and there were cats everywhere! Even the stonework around the cliffs was shoddy and falling apart. The patio chairs were in terrible shape and were broken in one way or another. We walked up and down the street to find some better options for dining. We did find an organic little place that had awesome food, but it was our 2nd to last day. We took shuttle everyday and spent our time down at the sister resort. Lots of cabs but you had to make sure they had a red license plate or else they could scam you. It was dangerous dangerous dangerous! Never ever ever ever go to this hotel. EVER!!!!!

We loved our trip to Samsara. I read reviews before we left so I was prepared for several of the issues others had addressed, such as the lack of beach towels. You can purchase beach towels there for about $10 US dollars or you can take your own. Our room was clean and we had plenty of hot water. We did the all inclusive plan and enjoyed the food. The staff were very friendly and even helped us locate a doctor that would come to the hotel when my husband got sick. Legends was just as nice and we spent two days relaxing on the beach. You can take the shuttle offered, catch a cab or walk. A cab ride will cost about $5 US dollars and all you have to do is start walking and you will be offered a ride by several drivers. We used Clovis and Collin for our cab drivers and enjoyed both of them very much. As far as being hassled to buy things, we did not feel hassled or threatened in any way. Just say "No, thank you" and move on. We can't wait to go back. Its low key and quiet. Its not a 4 or 5 star resort, so if that's what you want, go somewhere else. If you want a clean, laid back place to enjoy great views, Samsara is the place for you.

Room Tip: We enjoyed room 1B very much.

Samsara is simple, clean and far from ordinary. I loved the experience of staying in the tree houses and nothing more liberating than the showers outside below your tree house. I dived off the cliffs and opened my eyes to the vastness of the sea underneath. That water is so clear you can see miles a far. Samsara offers relaxation all while you are in the midst of Negril and can quickly get to other attractions. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The tree houses were very cool and we felt the ceiling fan was more than enough to keep us comfortable. I can't wait to return!
