We started with JuJu's Countryside Tour and ended with a trip to the Rockland Bird Sanctuary on our way back to the airport in Montego Bay. Our safety-conscious driver George took us where angels fear to tread, all over the back roads around the Great Morass behind Negril, down to his neck of the woods in Westmoreland. We saw how residents grow and harvest their food from trees, gardens and the sea. On the beautiful beach at Broughton we had the stuffed grouper with the best coconut rice and beans on the island, and finished with ripe coconut milk.
Our trip to the Royal Palm Grove in the late afternoon took us on boardwalks to see dozens of birds, which the guide recognized by their calls. He pointed out dozens within the space of an hour. We finished by watching the feeding time for the resident fowl, which included a flock of W.I. whistling ducks, egrets, & moorhens. The ride across the cane fields rings by hills alone was worth the trip.
We explored the caves at Xtabi on the West End and out at the Roaring River even though we were in our sixties. Angi and George were always there to help and inform us. If you want to see what the country around Negril has to offer, they will take you safely there and back and document your adventure with many images that allow you to relive your adventures.
