“Perfect honeymoon!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 24, 2013

We just returned from our honeymoon at Sandals Negril. We had an amazing time! Our butlers, Mark and Orlando, made sure that every detail was addressed. The escorted walk to dinner every night was my favorite. Orlando and Mark had special tables reserved just for us, flowers decorating the table and our favorite drinks ready and waiting for our arrival. They made sure we had the best beach seats every day and our glasses were never empty.

I was a bit nervous at first, because when we arrived, I could hear the loud music coming from the swim up bar and there were a lot of people around. But, then Mark escorted us to the other side of the resort.....it was much quieter and the rooms were more upscale. It was more of a laid back feeling and no loud music.....just what we were looking for!

The resort is not huge, but large enough to feel like you have dining options, pool options, beach options, yet can talk to people and feel at home. The staff is friendly and helpful, but the butler service is the best!

We did use the spa for massages and it was perfect. Melissa was the receptionist and was courteous and professional. Juliann and Jannise were our massage therapists. All I can say is fabulous!

I gave Sandals Negril 4 stars (instead of 5) for 2 reasons - they were doing construction while we were there. Upgrading many of the rooms. While we could not hear any of the construction while in our villa, we could hear it from the beach. It did not ruin our trip by any means, but it did make the beach relaxation vibe a little less than ideal. The second reason is that while the food was good, it was not 5 star dining. We visited Sandals Royal Plantation in July and that is 5 star dining! (To be fair, I don't think anywhere, including the best restaurants at home, could beat the food at Sandals Royal Plantation.) There were more than enough options for food at Sandals Negril and we enjoyed all of them.

The butler service at Sandals Negril was fantastic! Top notch! This is our 3rd resort with butler service and we would not have it any other way. The little extras provided by Mark and Orlando made our honeymoon extra special.

We enjoyed Sandals Negril and would recommend it highly! Thank you, Sandals Negril, for helping to make our honeymoon so special!

Room Tip: Pick the rooms with butler service! It is worth it! We stayed in the Sundowner Honeymoon Villa. Th...

We just got back from our vacation at sandals and we had an amazing time! We booked a garden view room. On our first night there Charmaine from the front desk called to check up. We mentioned it was our anniversary and she upgraded our room to the beach front!

Overall the beach and food were incredible. The rooms are a bit outdated but are still very clean and cozy, They are renovating the resort so within the next year it will be better.

We usually go away about once a year and will be returning to sandals.

This was my 7th Sandals stay and my first in Negril. Every Sandals property has it's on charm, like most of the reviewers here said, this property boasts customer service. They are in they middle of a renovation, but while I was there it was a non issue.
We were not happy with the first room they gave us, more for the location (first floor) than the room itself, it was also one of the older rooms, again, nothing wrong with the room itself. We asked for a room in an upper floor, we were told they will check for us. 10 minutes later we were offered a different room on a third floor it also happened to be a brandy new room and it was awesome!
The staff here bends over backwards to help you in anyway they can and always with a big smile and sometimes a song. They make it their job to learn you name and use it when ever they see you.
We were there for the Reggae Marathon, and it was walking/running distance of the start line (1.2mi) after the race it was a nice walk on the beach back to Sandals. Although it's not a very wide resort from road to resort it was quite a long resort along the beach. We spent equal time at the main pool as well as the beach each had their own special vibe. More social at the main pool and more laid back on the beach.
Food was above average on all counts and everything was clean from the rooms to the restaurants and all points in between
There is no doubt I would be back at this property.
Shout outs to: Playmakers, Olivier and Willie. Bartender, Santana. Beach Server Juliet. And I wish I remembered the front desk woman's name that got us the new room. and last but not least Big Show and the Jerk cart complete with Hard Dough bread, deeeliscious!

My husband, Christopher, and I would like to thank everyone at Sandals Negril for making our honeymoon such an incredible experience! Our entire stay was outstanding. Everyone at the resort was so helpful and gracious, especially our butlers, Sean and Denato. Both Sean and Denato went out of their way to make us feel welcomed, and saw to our every need. Whether it was making dinner reservations, arranging transport for excursions, or seeing to some of our more menial requests, they truly went above and beyond! There was nothing we were left wanting for our entire trip. Our room was exceptionally well kept by our wonderful chamber maid, Donna, who accommodated to our somewhat hectic and unpredictable schedule. The restaurants were sensational, every meal was more marvelous than the last. We dined at every restaurant multiple times during our 14 night stay, each with it's own delightful cuisine and attributes. The facilities were as immaculately kept as they were beautiful. The beach was kept in pristine condition at all hours of the day. Our extraordinary experience was enhanced by the genuine friendliness of the entire resort staff, particularly our two butlers, Sean and Denato. Thank you all so much, we genuinely look forward to returning to the friendly faces, gorgeous scenery and outstanding amenities!

Room Tip: We had a penthouse suite that was perfectly tucked away within a beautiful garden!

Everyone we met the first day of our honeymoon welcomed us "Home." We had a very easy check in sitting off to the side of the lobby with cool towels and rum punch, delivered by the concierge staff. Our Butler, Denae, checked us in as we chatted with other honeymooners arriving at the same time. She walked us around the resort to familiarize us with the property and took us to our room.
We stayed in a two story loft suite that overlooked Dino's, the Italian Restaurant, and the beach. We were not in our room much, but had no issues when we were. The room in general was a little outdated and could use some work to update it.
Our butler had arranged for us to eat dinner at Kimono's, the hibachi restaurant, on the night of the grand re-opening. We love hibachi and have nothing but good things to say about the experience. Expect a Jamaican-twist when compared to hibachi in the States.
Our Butlers, Denae & Denato, exceeded our every need during our stay and then some. They arranged our beach towels at the pool and saved our seats in the preferred seating of their choice everyday. They even walked the beach every morning and found us pool floats. They were few and far between at the resort, so luckily we had Butlers!! Sandals Negril's guests would benefit by adding more rafts to their resort, it was frustrating for other guests to miss out on them. We shared ours with some friends we met since you can not reserve them.
The main pool is where we spent most of our time through out the day. The pool bar was always filled with fun travelers and was always entertaining. I usually found a raft and spent my afternoon floating and catching some sun while the guys played volleyball.
We used our spa credits for a couples massage one afternoon and found it difficult to be motivated to do anything afterwards. This was my first massage and even though I had nothing to compare it to, I was hooked! The smell of the spa was refreshing and the locker room was spotless.
We took the Catamaran Cruise to Rick's Cafe and spent the afternoon dancing and hanging out with the crew. Smiley (a resort photographer who we saw often) even joined us and got outstanding photos of the whole cruise. Jumping off the cliffs was the highlight of the afternoon, aside from the flaming Bob Marley shots at the bar!
There are quite a number of room categories at Sandals resorts and it can get a little overwhelming when trying to pick the best one. Some have been updated, and some will be in the near future. Contacting someone who is experienced and knowledgeable is beneficial when choosing any resort and room. I'd be happy to answer any questions or concerns you might have. Dana - Ultra Tech Travel.

Room Tip: Check with the resort or your preferred agent to find out which rooms have been updated an which one...

We returned for our 7th visit to Sandals Negril 12/05 through 12/12/13. They had just opened 1/2 of the Paradise Building the evening before our arrival. We were booked in a Conscierge Beach Front Walkout room so we were pleased when we were taken to one of the new rooms. The rooms in the Paradise building have been enlarged, taking what was previously the balcony and making it part of the room. For the 2nd and 3rd stories this means NO balconies. They now have "French balconies" which is about 6" of space after you open the sliders. For the walk-out rooms it means no outdoor space at all. We found this to be the most disappointing feature of the remodel as we enjoy sitting outside for coffee in the morning, champagne & sunsets in the evening. This option is gone. You can open your slider and there is a table & chairs inside the room but it's just not the same. Plus you have to fight the lonely peacock and cats who want to come in....! Our personal opinion is we would rather have less room space and still have the outdoor space. We stayed in room 5112. No place to hang wet swimsuits either.

Room service has been changed from 24 hours to 07:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Sandals Negril has a new Executive Chef who we believe has upped the menus quite a bit. Bayside's French menu was excellent. Also having the Sundowner open for lunch was a great option besides the buffett, grill & pizza. The lunch menu @ Sundowner included shrimp/crab quesadillas which are to die for!

We've always loved Sandals Negril and will definitely return. Just disappointed in no outdoor space on the walkout rooms.....major error IMO. Maybe next time Sandals does a major remodel they should possibly get input from a panel of returning guests or something to see what's important to have/not have in a room.

As a side note, we had already decided that if construction noise was an issue we would ask to be moved to another resort. They were working on the 2nd half of the Paradise block and other than the workers being there, we weren't bothered at all by any noise.

"Not so great was our first 10 minutes in the resort. Arrived after being up for over 18 hours to get there - 5 hour flight followed by 2 hours on the road (arrived during rush hour in Jamaica). We get out of the bus at 8:00 pm and walk into reception. Never having been to a Sandals before, we were underwhelmed by the greeting we got from Nathalie at the front desk. We were not told anything other than to take a seat. Take a seat?? WTF. Apparently the process is to take a seat and then a bellboy will take you to your room but we were not told that...just take a seat. Some explanation of the procedure would have been called for. 10 mintues later a bellboy came and took us to our room. We were not told anything else (ie: that there were orientation sessions twice a day). We did not get the resort's Daily Breeze newsletter until we had been there for two days. Oh, we were not in a butler suite but had apparently been upgraded to a concierge room - not that anyone ever told us what that meant either.

After our front desk experience, I was wondering what all the hype about Sandals could possibly be about but we soon found out. I would equate Sandals to Westjet (Canadians will understand this reference). Almost every staff person after that would ask us our names and would use our names whenever they saw us again for the rest of the week we were there.

Above and beyond from me goes to Natalie in the Gift Shop. I asked if they carried banana chips which apparently Sandals does not carry. The next day Natalie had gone out after her 12 hour shift and got me two bags of banana chips. Wow. Thanks Natalie

Kimonos and Italian restaurants require reservations. We ate at both. The Italian restaurant is set on the edge of the beach and our 6:00 PM reservation meant we got to enjoy the glorious sunset during our dinner. The restaurant manager and head chef/sous chef came by to make sure everything was perfect. Nice touch guys. Kimonos Japanese is teppenyaki style (they cook it on the grill in front of you). You get served everything on the menu so you better bring your appetite cuz we had to roll out of there. I have had Japanese food in the Caribbean before and was always disappointed, but not here. It was spot on.

We were in Jamaica for the Raggae Marathon. We had to be on the road at 4:00 am to get to the start line on time. The hotel did put out some food and water before 4:00 am for the runners but it was not anything a runner would eat right before a run. Suggestion for next year: put out bananas and yogurt.

Thangeta the photographer was my favorite. Sandals has a whole team of photographers and take great shots. You only have to buy the ones you want and dont have to pay when they come around.

Smiley and Ricki on the snorkel boat were very entertaining and took great shots underwater as well. Security guard, Tracey (I think that was her name) is not actually a Sandals employee but she was the friendliest person I met at the resort. She was very helpful with giving me info about the resort before I found out there was an orientation tour.

Marveth at the excursion desk helped to arrange our tours. We wanted to do the bamboo trip on the Martha Brae river but no one else was going and we did not want to pay for a special trip by ourselves. We told her what days we had free and she arranged a trip for us with another couple before we left. Thank you Marveth.

Our housekeeper Karleen was like an invisible elf. We only actually saw her on our first day and our last day. We would come back from being out all day and magically our room was clean or our bed was turned down every day. Tons of towels and not a speck of dust anywhere.

Suggestions for Sandals Negril: Get banana chips in the store, put out bananas and yogurt on race day next year, get reception to be more informative when people check in if they dont have a butler, be more diligent about getting the Daily Breeze to rooms every day. Only reason I dont give the location a higher rating is that Negril is so far away from everything we wanted to see. We chose it for the location near the Start/Finish of the marathon"
