Just returned from an amazing trip to Jamiaca and stayed at the Sandals Negril. This will not be my only trip there!! This comes from a Mexico lover.....I was very impressed with Jamaica as a whole and LOVE the people. Sandals Negril is a beautiful resort on a Great beach. Food and drinks were better than I excepted. From the Sandals airport lounge on arrival, the bus ride there and upon arrival, a cool towel and a welcome drink served by Rohan and his Jamaica smile--we are hooked!!! The beach is clean and clear and just sitting under a palm tree drinking Jamaican Smiles all day makes me smile!! The beach is very entertaining with people walking by. Just sat back and enjoyed it.
The rooms are older and could use a bit of updating but the resort is clean, beds are very comfortable and mini-bar is stocked. The resort is always full so I am sure it is hard to update. Made reservations at the restaurants as soon as we got there and went to all of them. My favorite is the Sundowner for dinner and always had great service. Went to the Bayside for breakfast and some dinners and this is went my trip went from good to better. Each morning we were met by KENDRA!!!! She always have a big smile and hug for you. What a way to start each morning. She really makes you feel welcome...what an asset to Sandals!!!
All the bartenders are great and willing to please..tried many drinks they would make and all are good..they are very willing to please.
We have never had such a relaxing trip and met many wonderful people.
Do not hesitate to try it....
Good job Sandals Negril!!!! We will be back..
Yea Mon!!!

Room Tip: do oceanview it is wotth it. deluxe and premium rooms are smaller and dark w/ no balcony..

About Us:
We are a married couple in our early 40's/50’s. This was our 14th trip to a Sandals resort but it was our 1st time staying at Sandals Negril. We are Diamond tier Sandals Select members.

Arrival/Departure:
Self-booked Delta flights to/from Montego Bay were uneventful. We arrived on Saturday afternoon. Immigration wait was about 45 minutes. Travelling with no checked bags allowed us to proceed directly through customs. Stopped by the Sandals lounge to use the restrooms and get a drink and then went out to meet our pre-arranged private transportation to Sandals Negril. We arrived around 4:30 in the afternoon. When asked if we had booked Concierge, we mentioned that we are Diamond level members and they immediately arranged to take us to our room for check-in. This was refreshing since at other resorts we’ve usually had to remind them that in-room check-in is a benefit of this level. We prefer in-room check-in to get away from the crowd, ask any questions we may have (especially in a resort we haven’t been to before), and immediately set up activities, restaurant reservations, etc. rather than having to make a special trip later to the concierge office to do it.
Since we had arranged our own transportation back to the airport on departure day, we were able to stay about 45 minutes longer at the resort than if we had used Sandals transportation. This was nice. It gave us a little more time to enjoy lunch and relax by the pool before we had to leave. Since we were leaving later than most, we requested a late check-out (12:30 pm) at the Soon Come Back desk and after a quick phone call, it was confirmed. This really made the last day much more enjoyable. Instead of just looking at it as a travel day, we were able to get another relaxing ½ day of vacation in. We arrived at the airport about 2½ hours before our flight and had no problems with security.

Accommodations:
We were booked in the Grande Luxe Beachfront Concierge Room. During the returning guest dinner on Tuesday night, we were seated with the resort Sales Manager, Afiya, and she informed us that we had been upgraded to the Honeymoon Grande Luxe Beachfront Concierge Room in the Paradise building. Apparently, these rooms are in a more desirable location (closer to the main pool and lobby area) than the category we had originally booked. Really, it didn’t seem any different to us. We were in room 5212 on the 2nd floor with a nice view of the beach, ocean, and sunsets. The rooms are in need of renovation. In our room, the balcony doors would stick and the furniture was in poor condition (some drawers wouldn’t even open). The air conditioner switch didn’t work so the unit ran all the time. Luckily, we didn’t have any issue with the temperature in the room so, although we were concerned at first, this didn’t end up bothering us at all. The bed was very hard and uncomfortable compared to other Sandals resorts we’ve been to and the shower ran hot and cold at all times throughout the day. We were glad to hear from the resort General Manager, Andre, that Sandals has allocated significant funds to upgrade the resort and I would expect that all of the issues will be eliminated as the property undergoes renovations over the next year or two. They have successfully improved other properties recently and I see no reason why they won’t do the same with this one. We have no complaints about the cleanliness of the room. The housekeepers did a fantastic job.

Food/Beverage:
We always preface any discussion of food in our reviews with the following disclaimer: “We know that food is very subjective” and this review is no different. In general, we thought the quality of the food at Sandals Negril was average compared to other Sandals resorts we’ve visited. Our favorite restaurants for dinner were Sundowner and Cucina Romana. Kimono’s was also fun with probably the best “show” we’ve seen at a Sandals Teppanyaki style restaurant. Of course, they don’t compare to the show we get at similar style restaurants at home, but we still enjoy the food and company so we usually try to get into this restaurant whenever the resort we’re visiting has one. The best food in the whole place is the pizza. We had pizza for lunch 4 times during our stay. We’re not big drinkers but we do enjoy frozen drinks on the beach. None of the bars blended their own pina coladas or strawberry daiquiris. They all came pre-made from the machines. This was disappointing but understandable. The bars can get pretty busy and they probably wouldn’t have time to blend all those drinks from scratch.

Activities/Entertainment:
After many trips to Sandals in Jamaica, we no longer seek out the evening entertainment. This trip was no different. We caught bits and pieces of a few of the shows but nothing held our interest. It was the typical Sandals fare with staff talent shows, cultural dancers, and the like.
Red Lane Spa - The spa is nice and we enjoyed a complimentary 30 minute couple’s massage (another Diamond level perk). The therapists were both very good and we enjoyed the treatment so much that we booked a couple’s hot stone massage for later in the week. That treatment was also very nice and relaxing.
Beaches Negril – We spent one day in the water park at Beaches Negril. It is about a 25 minute walk down the beach from Sandals. The walk is nice but you do have to follow a path up by the road for a stretch where the beach has eroded away. We were only solicited by vendors a few times but all it took was a simple “no thank you” and we were allowed to continue on unmolested. This was pleasantly unexpected based on some of the reviews we had read. We enjoyed the lazy river and had a nice lunch at Arizona’s. The nacho bar was very good. Access to Beaches Negril is a nice perk of staying at Sandals Negril. The multi-property access is one of the things we love most about the Sandals chain.
Beach - This is the area of our main complaint. Every day we would see chairs being saved with all manner of personal items such as books, magazines, etc. Some would even use the Sandals brochures from the room so as not to jeaopardize any of their own belongings. In many cases, people "claimed" chairs for the whole week, leaving something behind each afternoon so that "their" chairs would be there for "them" each day. It was the same situation with the pool floats. For some reason, people felt the right to "own" the pool floats for the entirety of their stay actually taking them back to their rooms with them each afternoon. To me, this is a resort management issue. We've been to many Sandals resorts and we've never seen this problem be so prevelant. I specifically asked at the front desk and they stated that the "policy" of the resort is that saving chairs is not allowed. It is impossible for guests to follow rules that are neither properly communicated nor enforced. And, in my opinion, it is wrong for the resort to take such a hands-off approach leaving the guests to sort out the issue through individual confrontations.
Seaside Cabana – If you like to relax on the beach, there is no more relaxing place at the entire resort than the seaside cabanas down on the end of the beach by the scuba and watersports area. The Sales Manager, Afiya, offered us a discounted deal so we spent the last full day of our trip there. It was fantastic. It is very comfortable with all day food and drink service. You can also walk right down into the ocean from your cabana. And this end of the beach has the most marine life. It was fun to watch all the fish, crabs, starfish, etc.

Tours:
We did not take any resort tours during this trip.

Staff:
The staff at Sandals Negril were generally very nice. We did run across one or two staff members who were a bit short but everyone has a bad day now and then. Most everyone we encountered was friendly, always saying hello with a smile when they pass you. The housekeeping service was above average based on our experience at other Sandals resorts. Afiya, in particular, was a real sweetheart. She even came out and sang a song to us (solo!) as we were preparing to leave to come home. And, her voice was just as sweet as she is. She is a superstar!

Overall, our stay at Sandals Negril met our expectations. We will definitely return if the right deal comes along.

My husband and I took advantage of everything Sandals and Negril had to offer. We relaxed, but also had the most adventrous trip ever!!

Room Food & Drinks
We had the beachfront walkout room, and were more than pleased with the location and proximity (20 feet to the beach with an unobstructed view) Heavenly!! We loved leaving the sliding patio door opened and listening to the waves during the time we spent in the room (We did keep the the thin net curtain pulled over the patio doors while they were opened, very romantic) Actually we rarely closed our patio door and entered in and out of out room that way ( much nicer to walk down the beach to our room than go down a hallway) We had no issue with bugs in our room- we kept Concierge service was lovely, called and checked up on us regularly. We were offered an upgraded room, but declined because we were so pleased with our view and location. Food was great, wonderful variety. We loved the pizza!!!! and used late night room service. Drinks were great- top shelf brands and enjoyed the bars. Wonderful service in the restaurants and bars, very pleased

Dive Shop
My husband had been scuba certified years before, but it had always been a dream of mine so we took part in getting our PADI open water certification. The guys at the dive shop were so friendly and fun! Special thanks to Emron (our instructor) We were able to go on 5 dives once certified, and had a blast!!!! Beautiful diving.

Leaving the resort
We were told by several sources "do not leave the resort; it may not be safe" We felt safe, and spent a lot of time off the resort. We walked north and south on the beach, through Hedonism resort (next resort over) we are not much on the whole nudest thing, but it was an experience! On the other side of the resort there were some shops, and people did come up to us to try and sell us things (including smoke) but a simple "no thank you" and they went about their business. Friendly "no problem" attitude was all we encountered from the locals. We loved meeting some of the locals and chatted with several of them.

Rented a Motorcycle
If you enjoy motorcycle riding (as we do) I highly recommend renting a bike!!! This was the highlight of our trip!!! We went to our concierge, and she said no one she knew of had done this....she recommended going on tours the resort offered. We wanted to get out on our own tour, and did not want to spend so much money on a timed tour. My husband is a very experienced driver, and even though they drive on the left side of the road I felt good about it. (Much easier to drive a motorcycle on the opposite side of the road than a car) We took a cab just into town to Prentos bike rental. They were wonderful! Very friendly guy who gave us an amazing deal!! (the single cab ride cost almost as much as the rental did for one full day) We had the bike for the final 3 full days while at the resort, and they let us park in the parking lot overnight and the security guard kept look over it at night.

We rode all over the west side of Jamaica-- We went to up to Dolphin Cove, Ricks (a few times) Margaritaville, The Blue Hole, Rolling River, the Caves resort, and even rode down to Sandals Whitehouse to check it out and have lunch. It was wonderful!!! But I was glad I had decided on staying in Negril. We rode back up that night after leaving Whitehouse to Ricks for sunset where while diving my husband lost his wedding band, we were crushed.....Amazingly though the next day Hector, (a diver that works at Ricks dove down in the 40 ft water and found my husbands ring)!!!!! We were thrilled!!!!! We gave Hector a nice cash gift for finding it. Amazing!!!

The road hugs the coastline and there are AMAZING views of the water and cliffs. Absolutely most beautiful ride I have ever been on. We also visited Beaches for lunch one day- it was neat to check out some other sandals properties, and enjoy what the have to offer. While you are staying at any Sandals resort you can vist, eat, drink, and play at any of the other ones too!

We loved riding, but we did use common sense. There were several times locals would try to flag us down to stop and buy something from them, but we ignored them and kept riding. We went to places we felt comfortable with. One local gave us directions and expected compensation in return. Also, some of the locals will pose as tour guides, and try to take you on a tour, but stick to your own plan...we came across this once.

All in all, it was not only the most amazing honeymoon, but the TRIP of a Lifetime!! Sandals staff & the resorts were amazingly wonderful, hospitable, and friendly.

I Love Sandals, I love Jamaica, & I love the locals there!

Been to almost all of the sandals properties in Jamaica. Sandals negril is a beautiful resort. Top shelf drinks, beautiful beach, rooms, food. My only complaint, the chair game. People set THEIR chairs up at the end of the days for the next. They take THEIR floaties to Their room. Come on Sandals Negril get a proper chair policy in place. When you are walking by all of the chairs at 10 at night and every one of them are already taken for the next day is just wrong.

Room Tip: Were in honeymoon deluxe beachfront, 3rd floor. 24 hr room service, fridge well stocked daily, ton...

Sandals Negril has a great location on the beach. We had the walkout concierge beachfront room, 30 steps to the beach. It was Awesome. The resort it well kept up, only really showing its age in the bathrooms in the rooms. Staff was always happy and helpful. The food was good at all restaurants, we tried them all. Snorkeling was great, went out twice. Should have done it more. No problems getting drinks at the bar, bartenders were friendly. I would recommend this resort for a great place to relax on the beach. Wifi even worked on the beach.

My husband & I went to Sandals Negril for our 11th anniversary the 1st week of Feb. The weather was beautiful-sunny & hot w/a nice breeze. The water was warm & clear; the sand soft & white. So relaxing to lounge under a palm tree enjoying the "drink of the day" delivered by LaToya. It relaxes me just to think of it.
The beach was entertaining w/people from other resorts walking by as well as vendors offering everything from hair braiding, jewelry, sea shells, weed, cooked lobsters (Fireman), strolling musicians (Axel P-buy his CD!). We just sat back in our loungers to enjoy the show.
Our room was a Honeymoon Grande Luxe Beachfront Concierge Room on the 2nd floor of the Paradise Building. Our balcony overlooked the beach & water where we had a perfect vantage point for watching the sunsets each evening. Stunning! The king size beds are very comfortable & the bedding was so inviting. Kudos to whoever chooses them! The bathroom was adequate for our needs as was the in-room bar & beverages.
We took advantage of the many restaurant choices & were able to get reservations by booking soon after our arrival. Kimonos was entertaining & the food was good. We really enjoyed Cucina Romana for the variety that was offered. We recognized our server, Kaneeshia from our last visit 5 yrs ago. She is so pleasant & professional! Breakfasts at Bayside are the best! It is probably my husband's favorite meal of the day. There are enough choices to please everyone. Every day there is an omelette station, pancakes or french toast, hot & cold cereal, a variety of bacon, sausage & other hot dishes as well as fresh fruit, juice, smoothies, meat & cheese, pastry & bread for toast. The lunch buffet there changes daily & we enjoyed it the time we went. Dinner at the Bayside is International cuisine. We loved the duck spring roll & baby rack of lamb.
We usually couldn't drag ourselves from the beach so most days we had lunch at the Beach Bistro which offers salads, burgers, Red Stripe battered fish fingers, Jamaican patties all served w/fries or onion rings. There was also great pizza right across the way with some interesting choices & you could also create your own by choosing the toppings.
The bars were fun; the bartenders entertaining & would make whatever we wanted. If we were undecided, they'd surprise us. You must try a Dirty Banana & a Jamaican Smile! Thank you Sandals for bringing back Appleton Rum!
Evening entertainment was OK. We loved the Silver Birds Steel Drum Band, Boonoonoos band & singer & cultural night.
This is a great time of year to visit Negril-no mosquitos, jellyfish or hurricanes to interrupt your good times. I welcome your questions on this resort or of the many Sandals resorts we have visited over the last 11 years.
Respect, Mon!

I will not return to this location as the rooms and service was not very well. We booked the Honeymoon suite beach front with the concierge services. The bathroom had no plug in and the lighting was very bad. It had pink tiles with black tiles and a lot of soap scum. I never ment the concierge. No one came by and asked me if I needed anything?

The beach was very nice, the pools were small so happy about the beach and sun sets were nice. The staff on site were nice. The food was just ok. I did enjoy the water sports.

I will not return.

However, as hoteliers we realize that there is always room for improvement and feedback is crucial in this process so we thank you for your review.
