We had a wedding on the beach at Sandals Negril. We have nothing but positive comments about the staff and how friendly they are. The wedding office was courteous and incredibly helpful at the resort. Shermaine couldn't have more accommodating and helpful. The spa did a great job with my hair and make-up! The concierge service checked on how our stay was daily and we were greeted by name when we saw them! Nadine was fantastic and more than willing to go the extra mile! We learned to scuba dive on the trip. Emron was very patient and helped us feet very comfortable going out into the ocean. The housekeeping staff always made sure our room was clean and orderly. The waiters and waitresses at the restaurants were funny, we never had a bad meal while we were there our 10 days. We would go back without question.

Very nice facilities. The atmosphere is very casual. Most people eat their meals in their bathing suits since they are in the water most of the time. Don't pack very many dress clothes except for dinner at night (still casual). The restaurants are very nice with great service. The diving is outstanding. If you are not current they will bring you up to date for an $80 charge. We dove twice a day and sailed most days(this is all included). This is a great resort if you want to stay active or just lay by the pool. The tennis courts have been neglected and the racquetball courts are now storage rooms. The bus ride to and from the resort is about 1.5 hours. There is no tipping except the airport porter ($1 a bag) Highly recommend this resort. The people are very friendly and the service is outstanding. No one was pushy. Have fun.

Room Tip: Standard room was very nice, limited time in room.

First, if you are planning a wedding, this place has it down to a science. From the minute the bride and groom arrive until they leave, the wedding planners are fabulous. i cannot say enough good things about their wedding, and there were 12 weddings while we were there. Everyone i saw was beautiful and PERFECT from the brides make up/hair to the reception.

The grounds are well kept, the rooms are pristine, the A/C is OFF the charts, BUT the food is a C. SO, if you are used to good restaurants, you might want to rethink your stay at this all inclusive. The restaurants are ALL nice, but most of the food comes from the main kitchen because not all of the restaurants have their own kitchens.

A trip into Negril is worth your while as well. We vitisted Rick's (rock cliff diving) and The Rock House Hotel. They were both fun and very different ambiance than Sandal's. There are some good restaurants in town as well as vendors on the streets. They discourage people roaming around Negril, but we never felt threatened.

In addition, whoever owns Sandals NEEDS to hire Disney to train their staff. Either you LOVE the staff member or you wonder how they got hired. The staff members that we met that we liked were fabulous. They made our stay terffic as well as the wedding and reception.

I would have written all of this on the Sandal's comment card that they claimed was in our check out package, but no one in our party received one; hence this post. I would probably never go back to Negril, but the beaches are beautiful, there is lots to do there besides lay on the beach, and, like I said, Sandal's KNOWS how to plan a wedding for a few or many.

Room Tip: Pay the extra to be on the beach.

Where do I start? Not one thing was good about the place.

Jamaica in general is like Disney Land. Because it is unsafe and Jamaicans are extremely agressive in trying to get money fro you, we were stuck on the resort most of the time and the whole experience felt fake. The hotel has tried to create Jamaican style buildings, but it feels like props and staging. The entertainment was superficial as well. At one point, one of the actors said that Jamaica didn't have culture of its own, so they were going to talk about Irish, etc. culture which I don't believe is true.

Our room was not ready when we arrived at the hotel and we had to wait a couple hours, even though it was after check in time. The staff were not friendly at all nor apologetic.

The accommodations were shoddy for $600 per night. We paid a little extra for the beach front room which was at ground level but had a walkway in front of the beach and not at all private. It was loud and difficult to sleep in the evenings, due to a disco party happening only 200 feet from our room every night. The furnishings were okay, but the room was small and unimpressive for that much money.

Food was horrible. Mostly buffet style. The only dinners which were decent were at the rehearsal dinner and wedding we attended. We tried different restaurants, because they boast that they have 10, but nearly all the food comes out of the same kitchen and is just transported to different parts of the resort. The food is nearly all the same day in and day out, especially for lunch and breakfast where there are even fewer options.

There were mosquitos and midgies everywhere at all times of day. Any time we were outside, we were being eaten alive, even when wearing bug spray.

There were several times when there were absolutely no beach towels to be found anywhere on the property and when I asked a staff person for help they just shrugged me off.

The SCUBA diving is blah. A few fish. No sharks and all the coral is dead. They make you go with a guide, even if you are an advanced diver, and therefore, I was getting kicked in the face by those who have never dove before. They also made us take a test even though we had been diving within a year with the log book to prove it.

The beaches looked man made and had large burlap sacks in the water to hold the sand in. The water was very still, no waves. Because of this, the water was somewhat slimey. Yuck! Who wants to go swimming in that.

I'm sure I will remember even more stuff that was horrible about this horrific place, but hopefully you are already considering somewhere else. And, please don't make your friends and family pay $3000 to go here for your wedding. It sucks! I wouldn't go back if you paid me.

Turks and Caicos is a hundred times better.

Room Tip: If you still decide to go, stay on the north side

My husband and I just returned from Sandals Negril where we were attendants in our friends beach wedding. The resort is beautiful and the staff is very kind and helpful.
From the moment we arrived in Jamaica, Sandals made sure we were comfortable and relaxed. We got our bags and waited in the concierge room specifically for Sandals guests while we waited on our bus to be ready. Once our bus was ready, a bellman took our luggage and made sure it got on the correct bus with us... then when we got to the resort, the staff made sure our luggage was OFF the bus and all was taken care of. It was seamless and organized. A nice treat to not have to worry about luggage!
We were immediately offered rum punch while checking into our rooms and shown a quick tour of our room.
We opted to get the standard room, but had mentioned it was our anniversary and was "upgraded" to a luxury room. From what I understand, the upgrade got us a larger room, larger TV and better location (overlooking garden). This upgrade still didn't get us room service or alcohol in our room, which was kind of a bummer...but no big deal.
The food and alcohol is really good at the resort... the pizza's are amazing, actually. They take about 30 minutes to make a personal sized pizza but there is ALWAYS a line- so check it out.
Several people at the resort brought large cups with them to have the bars put drinks in, instead of the small plastic cups they are served in regularly which was a pretty good idea. The bars get a bit backed up, especially at the pool bar, so larger drinks kept those people happy longer. BEWARE though...drinks are yummy and STRONG!!!
One thing to be aware of: the beaches have sand flies of some kind that we could never SEE, but everyone at the wedding had red bites all over their legs. Use bug spray, even if you can't see/feel anything at night!!!! I promise.. I didn't think I was bit at all and came home yesterday to 13 big red bumps all over my knees and legs that resemble mosquito bites.
The spa was nice: I got a pedicure and my hair done for the wedding. They knew how to do just about ANY hair and all of us were very happy with our styles... and they were fast!
The pedicures were...okay. Nothing special for $90... wouldn't do it again.
The guys who were in the wedding got massages and said they were not all that firm, but decent and got a shave which they all agreed was a waste: the shave was done with bic razors and the shave was not thorough... some had patches.
The girls at the spa were all super nice, though.
As a whole: the resort was beautiful, food was good and drinks were delicious. We thought the trip was a little overpriced, but had not stayed at a Sandals before and was pleased with the resort anyway.
