If you want an experience like you see on The Bachelor, this is the place to go! The minute we arrived we had an incredible calm. We started our trip at Couples Swept Away (I wrote a separate review on it) and didn’t have a great experience but everything changed when we got to The Caves. Upon arrival you get a tour of the property and it is so beautiful. The water is so blue it doesn’t look real. There are so many places to sit and be completely alone or you can sit near the pool and be close to others. The sun there is so hot so be sure to get chairs near an umbrella. The staff comes by and offers drinks no matter where you are sitting.
We stayed in Stardust which is on the far end of the property completely secluded. It is a really cute cottage. I would describe it as rustic meets shabby sheik. There are no frills, a tiny bathroom and AC only on the second floor in the bedroom but none of that matters. It has wooden shutters that you open during the days which gets a great breeze. The views are unbelievable. The 2nd floor balcony literally looks right down into the water. This is also a great place to catch the sunset. There is cliff jumping on Wednesday and Saturday nights right outside the cottage. When the widows are closed at night and the AC is on it gets cool in the room.
The food is delicious! At breakfast you can pretty much have whatever you want (yes, the banana pancakes are really as good as everyone says they are!). You also get a plate of fresh fruit and freshly squeezed orange juice. For lunch and dinner you get a soup/salad, choice of 2 entrees (you can get both if you want) and choice of 2 desserts. It was all fresh and very prepared very healthy (except dessert!). If you want something other than what they offer, all you have to do is ask. We did a private dinner at the Stone Table and when we got to the table I felt like it was something out of The Bachelor fantasy dates! There were candles all around our table and on the cliffs.
Because the resort is small you get great service, anything you wanted all you had to do was ask. We went snorkeling with Paul and saw so many things that we never would have noticed had we been out there on our own. It was like swimming in an aquarium.
I definitely recommend this resort, you won’t be disappointed!!!
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The Caves sits along the limestone cliffs of the West End of Negril, right next to the famous Negril Lighthouse in Jamaica. Although situated only a few miles away from the bustling town center, this private enclave is a world apart. Eleven handcrafted wood and stone thatched-roof cottages, plus a 4-bedroom fully self-contained luxury villa, are interwoven between ten acres of lush vegetation and naturally formed volcanic caves. Quaint stone pathways wind through the limestone cliffs dotted with palm, sea grape and dogwood trees overlooking the Caribbean Sea. An arrangement of coral stairs and walkways lead to sundecks with uninterrupted views of the sea and sky, and grottos with turquoise water pools and fossilized marine life. A tropical reef system comes right up to the edge of the cliff, perfect for snorkeling. Guests can climb down ladders into the sea or take a leap from several “jump points,” the highest of which is 30 feet! An intimate, private and unique resort, The Caves is perfect for romance and relaxation. The Caves generally does not accept children under 16 years old.
