5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2012

This review posting is in response to the traveler who posted with the same subject line.
First off, it is one of my highest values to listen fully in order to try and understand and then be understood. I am hearing that this traveler felt she had unusual circumstances impacting her agreement with the infamous " Negril Yoga Center."

I have compassion for the loss of the full joy experience she suffered by not availing herself of the Center's marvelous atmosphere, accommodations and generous of spirit staff.

As a seasoned traveler and travel arranger I feel compelled to weigh in, in hopes this will inform and educate the semi-seasoned and potentially naive travelers reading this post.

When booking travel anywhere in the world requiring and desiring advanced confirmed reservations it is an imperative to secure the deposit with a valid form of payment. It is also the responsibility of the service provider to spell out their terms of agreement, I.e. deposit forfeit and cancellation policies. It is the responsibility of the payee to observe these and hopefully remain in full integrity of these agreements. If a traveler knows that the traveling members including themselves may have health risks or feel uncertain about travel dates it is advisable to purchase a form of traveler insurance through "The Travelers" for example, in order to minimize potential financial impact.

It is too much to expect a resort as heavily in demand as the Yoga Center, especially during high season (not to mention "the king of reggae's annual birthday celebration - Rasta Robert Nesta Marley on 2/6), to receive no communication and swallow a "No Show" without charge! In my opinion, it smells of an entitlement mentality and occurs as a self-centered perspective. Or just simple means a very unseasoned and disorganized approach to travel abroad. Regardless of what emergency ensued a day before departure, how could someone not remember they were planning on embarking on an international trip within 24 hours.

To the second point, that they found superior accommodations reflecting heart, surely there are other places to stay in Negril. Each has it's own unique charm and potential to build client relations. Anyone that chooses The Yoga Center is drawn to it not because the price is right and a free breakfast is tossed in to allure the guests. No! They choose it for many reasons on multiple levels. It is not for everyone and especially not for the unconscious traveler that cannot make distinctions! Even though the price is right and breakfast is beyond your wildest expectations. It might be best for a bargain hunter to locate a property hungry for business.

The returning guests that choose the Yoga Center hope to count on the overall integrity of the other guests seeking an authentic experience. Personally, I become anxious when thinking my next door neighbor would even consider using a fraudulent credit card in return for any earnest offering! We, who visit the Yoga Center understand the hallmark of the center was created with the heart of those seeking the purity of mind, heart, body and soul. It offers the options of Yoga, custom prepared food, well kept garden's, and a staff that treats you with the utmost respect and care of your evey spoken need.

In short it is an Oasis tucked away from the world and yet close enough when desiring to jump in with the rest of life Negril has to offer.

Wishing all the shift that is possible when we take enough time to choose wisely, not just where we stay but where we live in our minds.

Namaste,
One who has benn visiting Negril since 1980

.

Room Tip: Choose based on your needs. Book in advance, could sell out in high season.

I was there in April with my friend Dora. We had a great time!!! The place was exactly what we were looking for...quiet, green , simple, down to earth...basically an escape from madness. We loved the staff, the vegan food they can prepare if you ask for it, the yoga teacher (Fanette Johnson) and of course the doggie that lives on property. We didn't have hot water, tv, radio, internet access, etc but who cares!!!! :-))))
P.S.When you go to Negril please remember to always carry some food around with you because the strays are hungry!!!! Peace to all !!!!

This place is awesome and have returned there a few times. Great rates. Right across the street from the beach, and very central to town. You can eat there and the food was really good.

I am a seasoned traveler, having visited 16 countries & this was my sixth trip to Jamaica. My stay at the Negril Yoga Center was one of the most relaxing, peaceful and comfortable travel experiences I have had. I can't say enough about the physical surroundings....it's the ultimate garden setting with sights and sounds that delight the senses day & night. The staff is wonderful, accommodating, warm & friendly. It's safe, serene & spiritual and I will continue to stay here in my forthcoming trips to Negril. Thank you Raquel, Marcia, Serita, Annette and all the other staff for welcoming me and giving me a home in Paradise! I am blessed to have found you.

If you're looking for a nice place to spend some time that is low key and easy on the budget, this is definitely worth considering. My husband and I have stayed there several times and look forward to returning. While it is a yoga center, many guests do not do yoga. That being said, they have a very experienced and knowledgeable yoga teacher who teaches based on the Iyengar method. Like much of Negril, the atmospher is laid back. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food from the kitchen, open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., is delicious. The cooks make yogurt and feta cheese from scratch. Like several of the other guests I have spoken to, I have found the food to be among the best offered in Negril and less expensive than some lesser quality restaurants. The cooks are very willing to accomodate guests according to dietary requirements and preferences. That being said, there is a communal kitchen for those who wish to cook their own food, and one room has a kitchen in it. The rooms are modest but certainly adequate. Some have air conditioners. Most have private baths although some do share communal facilities. Most have refridgerators. The landscape is robust with native flora. This really stands out relative to other hotels that developed as much of the land as possible and left only a small sample of the nature. Due to that and the cottages and rooms being relatively spread apart, guests can have a real sense of privacy. The center is not on the beach, but is only a couple of minutes walk from it. It is also about a 10 minute walk from Negril's main square. Plenty of good restaurants are also within walking distance ranging from budget to expensive. This is an ideal place to stay for women traveling alone or in a small group. That being said, my husband and I have gone many times together and enjoyed it a lot.

Room Tip: Look at the options on the website.

I stayed in both Casa 1 and Chickee on this trip. Both have their charms. In November 2010, I stayed in Casa 3 and it is still my favorite due to location and privacy. The staff pays attention but does not intrude. They are there when you need them. I love the garden atmosphere and the location is across the street from the beach and walking distance to town. Don't forget to say hello to Blondie, the resident dog, who sleeps all day and guards the grounds at night.

Room Tip: Casa 3 is my favorite room.

The Negril Yoga Centre has a beautiful garden setting, several artfully colored huts and a big open yoga studio.Staff are very friendly and helpful, they have a big menu (breakfast, lunch, dinner),that would satisfy every taste. You are in for a very rustic experience, its no fancy hotel,my room was very nice and comfortable, also very basic (no radio or TV),I had a shared bathroom with the room I picked, which was almost outside,I took a shower in the tropical rain,it was awsome! There weren't too many other guests on the property,so it was a quiet and secluded.Bring Bug Spray and Ear Plugs!Mosquitos are everywhere and theres no glass on the windows so it could get a little noisy at night time if you are a light sleeper like me.The beach is across the street, and the stores and bank is a 5 min walk away. They are going to arrange transfers for you from Montego Bay,so you don't have to worry about that.
I had a great time, keeping in mind I travel alone,I would definetly stay there again and recommend it to my friends!
