I honestly do not know why I was concerned before staying at this resort, mainly I think because of a fear of the unknown. However, we were more then pleasantly surprised with this resort.
We stayed in Cliffside suite #16. It was one of their newer rooms, just under a year old. The entire front wall is a patio window about 20 feet long, with a patio, looking unobstructed out into the ocean - view was fantastic, from the entire room. It had a small functional kitchenette and mini refrig. Bed was king size, and also had a twin bed in the corner. Ac worked well, and it was very soundproofed ( did not hear a peep while in the room). There was a TV with many different stations. Husband was happy because the wifi was free and excellent, which allowed him to listen to hockey playoffs from our patio.
There were plenty of different areas around the resort to lay out. A large patio over the restaurant, an area around the pool, a spot under a very large shade tree with a hammock in the middle of the property, ares on the cliffs that go out into the ocean, and in the middle of the property overlooking the ocean. Since it is a small property, you felt alone wherever we sat.
I was also concerned about the restaurant. However, again, Very pleasantly surprised.
I also enjoyed the fact that the restaurant was smaller, only 5 tables, nice bar, and great views. It was much more intimate feel, and much more quiet and peaceful. I ordered a chefs chicken special which was excellent, and husband loved their jerk Chicken. Our breakfast was also great. Having ate in the cliff area of Negril, numerous times, I found this meal to be one of our best, with a great pricetag to match !
All of the staff were excellent, and we they all knew our names shortly after arriving. It was nice to pull up to the resort, and the Tina, the manager, to address us by name when we arrived, and to welcome us hassle free.
In the office, they have free snorkeling equipment, and new plush beach towels for use.
The area between this resort and Blue Cave castle seems to be a fairly popular snorkel site. It is nice, because it is easily assessable from the resort, while at the same time off to the side so the snorkel boats do not disturb those at the resort.
Having stayed at 2 other cliffside resorts ( catcha falling star and Tensing Pen), I found the water to be more calm in front of Home sweet Home. The location is more towards the start of the cliff area, closer to the beach, which I think causes the more calm waters. Also, staff at this resort were just more friendly ! Also, at this hotel you do not pay the hefty price tag connected with some the the other resorts on the cliffs with similar views.
I like to try a new Cliffside hotel each year when we travel to Jamaica. However, this year we found our home, and will be returning for Home Sweet Home for our 2015 trip !
