When you really want to relax and chill out, be you etc.Firefly in Negril is the answer.

Super beach, great all day breakfast and really really cold Red Stripe beer. Staff are always on hand but only appear when you need them{ how do they do that?} Rooms are excellent, just had my third visit there, many more to come.

Mike Evans. Kingston Jamaica

Room Tip: I favor a room over looking the beach, awesome sunrise and sunset!!

after almost 20 years of visiting jamaica for both business and pleasure, this was my first trip with a child (my 7 year old stepson) in tow. because of this, we decided to stay directly on the beach, which is something i've never done before. i weighed the options (alfred's didn't seem appropriate for a youngster, nirvana was too expensive) and decided firefly was the best bet. and i was right!

we booked the oceanview penthouse suite, which was an act of blind faith, since you can't get any idea of its layout based on the hotel's website description. it was decorated in slightly tattered 80s decor and was way smaller than i expected, but we made do- there was only one small double bed, so the kid slept between my husband and myself, which was not great but doable.

the kitchen was well-stocked with pots and pans, dishes and such and the refrigerator was much larger than a dorm-sized unit, which was great. water pressure was excellent and the temperature of the hot water was almost TOO hot. oh, and don't forget to bring your own beach towels. from what i saw, the majority of the hotel towels are on the small side, and they're really not suited for the beach, so you'd do best to bring your own.

the bedroom had a little 12" color tv that got a ton of cable channels. we switched between cartoon network and bollywood movies on zee tv. there are a few porn channels too, but there's a menu card that tells you how to block channels, if you don't want to randomly flash on naked people on your tv.

the balcony had a beautiful view of the beach and the bay and my only nitpick is that the furniture was really outdated and uncomfortable- it would have been really nice if they put in a little daybed to lounge on.

the grounds are beautiful, the beach area is well-maintained and shaded, the staff is extremely nice and the other guests were pleasant.

nudity was actually taking place next door at sun beach. ironically, there was a total of 6 kids staying at the hotel while we were there, not to mention local kids and kids from neighboring hotels who came to kick it with the firefly group. so anyone who's on the fence about booking due to the nudity issue really has nothing to worry about. i was worried that the one single 30-something guest from ottowa would be annoyed by all the romping the kids did, but he was really cool about it. my husband and i brought a portable speaker and cranked up old school dancehall and hip hop tunes and no one seemed to mind that, either. it felt like a nice, chilled out adult sleepaway camp with a bunch of kids thrown into the mix.

one other thing of note- there isn't a full restaurant on premises. they serve pancake and eggs grilled over a hot plate for breakfast and no lunch or dinner items. the whole snack/bar area shut down around 6pm each night. the snacks and cold cuts we brought with us came in handy, and if we had stayed for a week or longer we definitely would have made a trip to the hi-lo supermarket for some six packs of beer.

thanks, firefly, for making our family trip to jamaica nice and easy!

No it's not the Ritz Carleton but it is very nice. The rooms are clean and the people are great. You can't beat the location right in the middle of 7 mile beach. On the beach clothing is optional so you can really get comfortable the way Jamaica should be enjoyed. You can have breakfast right on the beach. The bar could be a little better. Imagine no Margaritas !! The folks who work there are VERY helpful if you need anything like reservations for dinner. So go with the right attitude and you will really enjoy this quaint spot on the beach.

We stayed at the Firefly for the first time, and could not imagine going back and staying anywhere else. The owners and staff were absolutely amazing and made us feel at home the instant we arrived. After walking along most of 7 mile beach, I know that Firefly has THE BEST private beach around. The sunsets were better than those at Rick's Cafe Close to everything you could need, Firefly was our home away from home for 2 weeks.

Great location, staff very friendly and helpful. Sunset from Firefly beach as beautiful as it is from Rick's Cafe. Friendly atmosphere. My husband and I traveled with our 20year daughter and 4of her friends. We always felt safe! View from ocean view penthouse was absolutely fabulous and second to none!
We will definitely be returning.

I give my rating not because Firefly is a Five star resort (its not) but because of spot on description and excellent execution. In short they say what they do, they what they say, no disappointment. I was there a week during slow season, end of May thru beginning of June and a majority of the few other guests at Firefly had previously been there. I recommend Firefly and will gladly return.

Room Tip: If you like camping, get a cabin as I did. If you plan to use AC constantly being near the road is...

My fiance (now wife) and I returned to Negril in May to have a small, private wedding with a sunset ceremony on the beach. We stayed at the Firefly for the 5th time and again were treated like family. The owners and staff make everyone feel at home with their courteous and attentive service. Believe me, there is no "corporate" feel here as I often experience at other places we visit. We enjoyed a beautiful third floor suite on the beach about 50 steps to the water. It was the perfect romantic place to relax after our magical wedding ceremony.

The Firefly may not be for everyone as it lacks some of the amenities provided by inclusive resorts and such. However, the location on the beach can't be beat, the service is personal, the rooms, cottages and suites are clean and comfortable and the price is most reasonable. I have traveled to beautiful beaches around the world and there is good reason we chose Negril Beach and the Firefly to celebrate the most important event in our life!
