“Perfect for us”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

We've stayed at similar smaller boutique hotels in Playa del Carmen and CoCo was a better experience in almost every measure. We considered a lot of hotels including Idle Awhile and CountryCountry. Ultimately the price at Negril OneStop price was probably the deciding factor.

We stayed in one of the deluxe rooms on the second floor and that was an upgrade well worth it. The room was very big, and the amenities were fine for the price. The bed was ok but the pillows were really bad. Overall, though it was great, especially for the price.

The staff were very friendly and outgoing. Perhaps they "did not make the trip" like some of the all inclusives but in general they were very friendly and attentive.

The beach at CoCo is spectacular! The water is clear and warm and there is plenty of shade under their trees. We were "ready" for the vendors and honestly they were rather entertaining versus being a constant bother as some suggest. The trip was "made" by several of them including the fruit lady and the patty man. The fruit lady in particular is an absolute delight and lunch for 2 for $5 from the Patty Man can't be beat.

Negril is meant to be experienced from a small hotel, not a resort. The vast majority of the people on our flight stayed at all inclusives and did not get to experience what we did. It was a great trip and CoCo was a great choice for what we wanted.

Room Tip: upgrade to the Deluxe room if you can.

Traveled with my son for 5 nights Stayed in a Jr Suite (Rm 216). Spacious with large walkout deck and bathroom. Perfect accommodations for Negril with great beach and amenities. Breakfast prices were overly expensive.

Great hotel with many areas to improve.

Room Tip: Upper Jr. Suites away from the road

We booked a standard room for a week at Cocolapalm and they gave us free upgrade to superior room when we arrived. The room is good enough for the price. The location of the hotel is fantastic, right next to seven mile beach. The water is definitely top quality, clear, clam and warm. However, the food is not very good and there was not much entertainment either in the resort or any resorts nearby, probably because it was off peak season. It could be boring for young people who stay for more than 3 nights.

This hotel has a great location but the greatness ends there. Staff is indifferent and unhelpful. The hotel is only concerned with one thing, squeezing you for more money. At check in they try to hit you up for 3-4 deposits for everything they can think of, consider waiving the deposits if you are not interested in the the service or feature. Drinks were expensive, food was poor quality for the money security was non existent, and their 3rd party taxi service is unreliable. Hotel taxi service did not pick us up at the airport as arranged, then the hotel tried to make us pay for the taxi that didn't show up. Bugs all over the room, the hotel room door had wholes in it (light actually came through the holes), weak AC, dated room decor, and not very clean. There are a lot a better hotels and resorts for a better price. Consider the two neighboring hotel/resorts instead, they are better maintained and less expensive. We will never stay again. One of the worst hotel experiences ever, and we stay at a lot of cheap hotels!

Room Tip: Just don't rent a room at Cocolapalm and you are off to a good start. Bottom line don't stay...

Our time at CLP began May 4th,for 10 days, check in was effortless. Soon we were in our room, on the ground floor near the hot tub. Our outside sitting was behind a high hedge. We upgraded to an upstairs room, king bed and a balcony overlooking the snack bar and beach. Lots of room, and slightly better WiFi reception, we still used SandyHaven. CLP has indeed generally poor reception, abysmally slow.
The room was clean and roomy. Bed quite old and getting to its best before date. Great bathroom.
The hotel was not close to full, nice that way. Very good staff, nice pools, laid back and relaxed.
Amazing beach, the pools barely used. Warm water, mostly calm and tranquil, soft sand, lots of shade under almond trees. The beach venders rather than being pests, kept us entertained…… we bought juice, fruit and patties. There are drug dealers, they should be chased away, even arrested. Security at CLP is top notch.
The restaurant and bar just OK. We found the food expensive, mediocre and in short supply. In fact, it was the same story up and down the beach. You don’t come to Negril for the food. The continental breakfast was very basic,........ bacon and eggs, a few potato chunks and one slice of toast somewhat better for a price, my wife tried some other stuff…….. again, edible. The ackee and salt fish was good, but the price was up there. Their coffee is fantastic!
We liked to sit at the bar especially at happy hour, but the staff love the reggae music cranked up, making conversation difficult,or even watching hockey, so we were driven away. Loud music has its place, upon arrival back in Edmonton we attended the Fleetwood Mac concert, LOUD! LOUD!, we didn’t go for a chit chat….. But we did at CLP.
Most of the people we met where our age (no spring chickens) many, most, return patrons.
Walking out front of the hotel, one is inundated by horn blasting cabbies, we took the beach everywhere. Walking that amazing beach is a tonic. So much to see, the beach vendors, albeit pushy, are fun and very entertaining.
The sunsets are a nightly ritual, everyone is on the beach cameras just a going, everyone different. We loved that part of the day.
We very muched liked CLP, would we return? No. We like to go somewhere different each time, the world is to huge, wide and varied for repetition. However, we did enjoy our stay.

Room Tip: May, maybe to hot!

The people, the facilities, the cleanliness, the food, service, Red Stripe (cold) and access the beach are really great... Entertainment was so-so, but we didn't book it for the entertainment.. for the price (free entertainment) is was excellent.
Get to know your bartenders, waitstaff, guards et al on a first name basis (and most will address you on a first name basis.
Rooms are super clean, staff get's to know your habits - only ran into the cleaning person one time and never again...
Towels need to be updated... but hey, we went there at the end of the season and might not have gotten the 'new' towels when they were new... actually, just joking because we made this observation last year...
Ease of access to the Route Taxi's plus Coco will offer tons of excursions..

Outstanding sunset viewing from the beach, either bar, the restaurant patio...

Downside is we can only get there once a year....

My sister and I stayed here in September 2012 after booking a deal through CheapCaribbean. It was the best reviewed hotel we could find a deal for on the seven-mile beach, and we were not disappointed. The rooms are clean and well kept. The staff are all quite friendly. There is free drinking water (a major plus), and wi-fi. The continental breakfast was not great, but it was not bad either. We met a lot of guests -- some couples, some families, some singles -- who told us that they had been to Coco LaPalm many times before, so that should serve as a pretty good endorsement. I'd stay here again if I went back to Negril.
