Just returned from my first time in Negril and Sea Splash was a perfect choice for me.
I didn't want to stay in one of the big 'commercial' all-inclusive resorts, however, I wanted something that was *more* than just a hotel...
Sea Splash was a perfect medium as a boutique-ish hotel that also had a fun bar and an EXCELLENT restaurant.
The resort is fairly small, laid back and chill with a good vibe. It has a cute bar, a pool and a hot tub for those who would partake--but why would you when you are literally STEPS from the ocean here?? The grounds are beautiful. Tropical foliage abounds.
When I arrived using my Living Social deal, I was greeted kindly and told I was being given one of the best rooms--room 6--as I was celebrating a birthday!
Room 6, which overlooks the bar, pool and restaurant and has ocean view, was perfect for me. It was a 1-bedroom suite (as advertised via Living Social). The bed was huge and comfy. The bathroom was a bit small but totally fine and the kitchen had anything you'd need. Highlights of this room were the bedroom area, patio and super high vaulted ceilings which made the space feel nice and open. Also, the room was super clean and housekeeping returned it to that state daily. I loved that maids would put fresh flowers in the kitchen and on the patio.
Per the Living Social deal, I received a complementary breakfast each morning at Normas, the restaurant. Each of the 4 days I was there the breakfast I had on the deck overlooking the sea was...amazing! I only ordered whatever the "Jamaican" breakfast was each day. Two of the days I had ackee and saltfish with dumplings and bammy. One day it was calaloo and fish with dumplings. And another day I had stew snapper filet with dumpling. Blue mountain coffee each morning with breakfast and sometimes a shot of rum cream I would order from the bar. Whoever is doing the cooking here is doing it right! The breakfasts were flavorful, well-portioned and just a fab way to start my days.
I paid nothing for these meals with my Living Social but I always tipped generously.
Sea Splash is in a great location on the beach, in my opinion. A walk to the left takes you to many other small hotels and bars and places to eat. A walk to the right, on the beach, takes you toward some of the larger resorts. Sea Splash has some umbrellas and cabana-type things on their portion of the beach which was great for me to chill beneath and read my book without being in direct sun for hours.
The bar was fun--especially the live reggae show on Sunday night which drew a big crowd and at which a singer from a popular reggae group from the past made an appearance. Enjoyed it immensely! New owner Jim Hurt, as mentioned in other reviews, is fun! He is proud of his place and doing all he can to accommodate guests.
And according to Hurt, a fellow martini connoisseur, Sea Splash is the only place on the beach with gorgonzola-stuffed olives! (One of my fave cocktails).
