Sunset at the Palms
Ranked #7 of 80 Hotels in Negril
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 8, 2010

We went to sunset at the Palms for our honeymoon and we could not have asked for, or picked a better location to honeymoon. The staff was excellent, the food was great, the rooms were always clean and unique, and the location is the absolute best. I don't know why there are some negative reviews on tripadvisor because we encountered nothing but the best at Sunset At The Palms.

The Rooms
If you want to expereince Jamaican Tropics then this is the place for you. Each room was in a private "tree top" house, with a private balcony, surrounded by palm trees and exotic flowers. We rarely turned on the AC, because once you open the windows you get a cool comforting breeze. My wife fell in live with the decor of the room. We've stayed in five star hotels in Manhattan, Florida, etc. They have nothing on Sunset At The Palms. At night you were sung to sleep by the sounds of nature.

The Food
If you want to experience great Caribbean meals then this is the place for you. Each day at sunset at the Palm you have a variety of tasty caribbean delights, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The Beach
You've must have heard of Negril's white sand beaches already so there is no need to bring up how beautiful the beach is. You do have to cross the street to get to the beach from Sunset, but I think its minor. I've stayed at the Atlantis in Bahamas and I had to walk way longer just to get something to eat. There is always a crossing guard on duty to ensure your safety. There is a bar at the beach so you never have a empty cup. You are located right next to the best lobster place ever to get grilled lobster.

The Staff
They remember your name. Need I say more. No but seriously, the staff is great. They go above and beyond to ensure your happiness. Although, tips are already included in your hotel costs, the service is so good you want to actually give more. Its up to you though, because there is never any pressure to give anything additional.

They really mean all inclusive because everything you can think of is included. Great food, great entertainment, fun day activities, water sports, perfect atmosphere, and friendly staff. You can't go wrong with Sunset at the Palms. We will be back.

Just returned yesterday from Sunset at the Palms, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, unique resort. Food is excellent, as is service. Rooms were nice, we especially liked the balcony. Pretty much everything has been said, just wanted to add our opinion. We will go back.

We have just returned from Sunset At The Palms and all I can say is that it far exceeded our expectations.

The staff were incredible and we felt we were leaving a family behind. They all came to say goodbye which was very moving.

The food was faultless - how anyone can say it is monotonous I find hard to believe. Plenty of variety - the salads were brilliant - lovely local cooking and brilliant theme nights. The choice of wine was excellent and The Treasuremen's Cove Fish Night was absolutely wonderful.

The rooms were beautiful, all very well hidden in the beautiful tropical gardens, tended by Shortie and his wonderful team.

We will definitely go back.

The ONLY thing, I think, that I would mention is the bar on the beach closes as 6pm, and the sunset starts at about then, so we were not able to have a drink - it would have been nice for it to stay open until 6.30pm.

Sunset @ the Palms is a wonderful, cozy & romantic resort. My partner & I stayed for 4 days to celebrate my 41st birthday. The resort is cozy & the rooms are spacious & clean. The grounds are well kept & very tropical.
The beach was clean & the beach bar/grill was great!
We ate breakfast at the resort every morning & sometimes lunch. There were different local selections at each sitting (not sure how one reviewer found the food monotonous??). We chose to go to other local favs for dinner.
If you want all the NOISE & hoopla of the MEGA resorts then this is NOT the place for you. However, if you want a quiet & pleasant vacation spot then book @ SATP!
As for cab driver named Hunter & he will take care of you throughout your stay.

Have you ever stayed at a campground? You look around, and everyone else staying in the hotels beside you have ammenties and you think to yourself, "that's okay, I'm staying here for cheaper, and I have access to the same beach?" Not here. You're paying the same, but you're at the campground.

I've been to places that try a lot harder. It's nice, it's really quiet, but it's as though the staff just waits for you to leave. Sure, they're nice enough, and the food's good, but they just don't care that it's your hard earned vacation...like they just don't care if you're having fun, liking the resort, safe, etc...and I've been to many other places that don't give this impression.

If you are going to Jamaica, and you are doing so because you think you're getting a great deal, stop and think about things before you book here. You will eat the SAME thing every day. Honestly. You will drink watered-down, local beverages. You will pay for everything fun to do...they don't even play music on the beach, and the "grill" is a local, with a few frozen hamburgers....honestly, you're not getting a good deal. Spend the extra couple of hundred and go to a real resort, not a campground. We thought the room would be so romantic...it's not enough to make up for the dirty beach, the monotaneous food, poor bartending, and retirement home commmunity feel. It's not a good deal.

OK...so I've waited entirely too long to write this review, but I'm going to do it anyway. My wife and I got married at SATP in June 2009 and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Kimberly, the wedding coordinator, was outstanding and very receptive to our desires for a simple yet beautiful wedding and went above and beyond in many cases. Unfortunately, she no longer works there, but I'm sure whoever they have now is also great.

About 35 of our friends and family joined us for the wedding, which was on the beach, and was absolutely perfect. Most of our guests stayed at the resort and everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The staff does an amazing job of maintaining the grounds (both on the beach and the resort) and although everything moves at a slower pace, they are eager to help you in any way that they can.

The food was pretty good. We only did the buffet as the a la carte restaurant was only open a couple of nights and they happened to be nights we dined off the resort. The bartenders are awesome especially Omar! Leonie on the beach grill was great as well. We stayed for 6 nights and were beginning to tire of the food. Although the quality was good, there are only so many ways you can mix the same ingredients.

There isn't too much going on here in terms of night life, which was fine by us. We had a good sized group so we were able to entertain ourselves pretty well. However, if you are coming here expecting a party type place (like Riu) you will be sorely disappointed. The pool bar stayed open until 1 am, but the entertainment was typically done by 10 or 11.

Our one complaint was the price of the passes for non-guests to visit the resort. It's been so long that I can't specifically remember the prices, but it was something like $80 for a day pass which lasted until 6 pm and $100 for an evening pass which lasted from 6 pm until 1 am. Not bad if your going to be eating and drinking the entire time, but we had some guests that came back to the resort with us after our off-site rehearsal dinner which ended at 10 pm and there was no break in the price. There was no food even available (not that they would have eaten anyway), but $100 per person to drink for 2-3 hours is ridiculous. A prorated price would be nice here.

Overall, an awesome experience and I would definitely return if I were looking for a relaxing all-inclusive. The people are wonderful, the resort is beautiful, and the rooms are great.

We had a brilliant time here. We stayed in Negril for 14 nights and had stayed in 2 other hotels before coming to Sunset at the Palms as we wanted to try a few hotels along the beach and wanted to have a few days of all inclusive. It is lovely here, we really enjoyed ourselves. The food was great, a good selection at the buffett, we only went to the fine dining once however if we were staying longer we would of eaten there more. The staff are so friendly and make you feel very welcome. The only point I would make is there isn't a fridge in the room and it would of been nice to have one or mini bar. You can hire a fridge however as you are paying for all imclusive you would of thought it would be included. This isn't a critism as we aren't moaners, it is just something that would of been nice. They do bring you ice in the evening and a bucket.

Watch out for the rum punches at lunchtime, they may knock you out for a few hours!!

We will definatley go back
