“Paradise found!”
Reviewed March 26, 2014

We stayed for one week in this awesome hotel. The gardens are perfectly kept and really make you feel as though you are away from it all. It was not crowded at any time even though the hotel was fully booked. The pool was never overcrowded nor was the beach. The beach was amazing, and it was no problem to cross the road to get to it. The people are so friendly and they really make you feel at home. The rooms were clean, the bed was really comfortable and we loved having our own hammock on one of our balconies (we had a suite). There's not much night life, so you kind of have to make your own, which we didn't mind. Just chatting with other guests with the music/entertainment in the background was fun - of course always with a cocktail form the wonderful pool bar!
I would go back to this hotel in a heartbeat. I wouldn't stay anywhere else if/when I go back to Negril. I would also recommend it to anyone who wants a relaxing vacation that's not in one of those large concrete resorts like the RIU next door. This was truly the best vacay ever in large part because of the hotel.

We have just returned form a week here, having booked because of the great reviews on Trip Advisor. Our view is that it's a good 3 star but if your are looking for 4 star or above, you can do much better.

The good bits - the gardens are fabulous, away from the road its very tranquil, the rooms are lovely (yes, they are dark but it doesn't seem to matter), there are lots of different locations to eat so you never feel crowded, the chefs dinner was great fun, the beach is absolutely fantastic and some of the staff were great. The day bed on the veranda was just brilliant - we spent many happy hours on it!

The not so good bits - the mattresses are old and saggy and one (we had 2 rooms) was absolutely filthy, the sheets aren't fitted so get all rucked up every time you turn over. We must have had different bar tenders because many of the cocktails were undrinkable, especially in the Magnolia bar where we gave up in the end and just had wine- we saw an awful lot of cocktails wasted (but the ones on the beach were great) . There were no bins in the bedroom, we had some unwelcome cockroach company (although accept this part of being in a tropical climate) and we wondered why guests have to carry their own towels to and from the beach rather than them being available on the beach like every other resort we have been to.

But by far the worst bit was the constant music blaring out at full volume. The staff seemed to be able to play whatever they wanted, as loudly as they wanted with no consideration for their customers. We were not alone in asking for it to be turned down several times a day. We fully accept many people like to hear music at full volume all the time, but we also expect to be able to be able to find a place somewhere where we don't have to if we prefer not to.

Finally, like previous reviewers, we emailed well ahead asking for a quiet room away from the road, and guess where our room was? Right next to it. We were moved to a quieter room the next day but it was a disappointing start to the holiday.

I know some of this seems nit picking but we paid a lot of money for this holiday and there were too many little niggly things which just stopped from being the fantastic place it should and could be and which other, similar places get absolutely right.

Sunset at the palms was peaceful and beautiful. The beach is very clean . we never waited for a table and the food was good . miss opal at the beach was fun and had easy to eat on the beach food..Lloyd the tour guide knew his way around the area a and there wasn't a bus load of people to follow around. If you like to relax head to sunset.

Comparatively small to the other places along the seven mile stretch, Sunset at the Palms is Serenity in a manicured forest of flowers and palm trees. Concrete paths lead you to your well-disguised vacation “home” and security personnel are there to guide you and insure your get there safely at night. However they cannot protect you from the noisy, relentless (till 2:30 AM) tree frogs and crickets that keep the bug population to a minimum. By 5:30 (AM) the birds take over the jungle serenade. But you can easily get accustomed to this disturbance after your first night. Some people told me that it helped them “relax”. The staff members are most friendly and always available to answer questions, or provide assistance for anything. Unlike a cruise ship, food is not available 24 hours a day but if you ate at each of the long breakfast lunch and dinner presentations, I guarantee you would leave heavier than you came. Liquid refreshments are always available.
Except the beach (with food and beverage stands), there is nothing very close by – including crowds, kids, and “souvenir salesmen”. You can experience that if you continue to walk along the beach. Taxi’s are available and there is a (Times Square) area with shops that you can get those souvenirs. There is also an ATM that dispenses Jamaican or US dollars. However, if you would like to see a little bit more I strongly suggest you talk to the local tour providers parked outside the gate. The hotel of course has a travel desk and can book any kind of tour for you (with a company) but the locals are very honest, they know everything and everybody and they really do want you to have a good time. We got acquainted with Loyd, a heavy set individual with dreadlocks. We chatted for a while discussing our likes and dislikes. Bottom line, he took us on an all day tour that we’ll never forget. He usually stays on the beach side of the street so I highly recommend you talk with him before you get hooked up with the ones closer to the resort entrance. If you want to be left alone or pace yourself, this is a great place to go. If you like more people, noise, salesman and kids, try a different resort.

Room Tip: Rooms in the 400, 500, 600 area are newer and more secluded. Rooms in the 100, 200, 300 are older a...

We were married Feb 11,2014 on the beach at Sunset.
The wedding was more than we dreamed it would be and the incredible Yvette Williams, resort wedding planner, made it easy and stress free. Exactly what we were looking for. She was so incredible, we've invited her to Halifax, Nova Scotia for our reception.
All of the staff we met were gracious, with certain individuals standing out. The treehouse chalets are an incredible experience. Truly the best of both worlds, beach and foliage.
Fantastic food and service.
See you again soon my Jamaican sister. Thank you for an amazing memory. I hope you see this.

Just returned from SATP. First the pros: the landscaping is gorgeous, you really feel your in a jungle like setting. Our room was simply decorated, nice size including a large bathroom. The best was the deck with a daybed which my husband and I spent a lot of our time on looking out on all the foliage. The beach on pristine and there are plenty of chairs. The pool is great and the lifeguard is an incredible guy who will help you at any time and share his knowledge of Jamaica. The waitresses and waiters are friendly and very efficient.
Cons: the food is boring meaning repetitive and with little flavor. The only dish we liked was the jerk chicken. The bartenders seemed bored with the guests but did serve good drinks. The gym room is fine but the equipment is all outdated. Also when a treadmill broke it was never fixed. Finally I must mention one awful person, Yvette. She was at the front desk when we checked in. No eye contact, rushed through check-in, told us she could not take us on a tour (we saw another woman doing just that!) Yvette never smiled, seems this is just a job for her. A very bad start to our stay! Finally, we asked back in June and on all subsequent emails for a room away from the road. Guess where our room was? By the noisy road of course!

Room Tip: we would say away from the road but the staff didn't follow through

This is a long review, but balanced (giving the positive and the negative-for a lack of a better word.) IF you are interested in the "SPA" make sure to read the end!
ROOM: The grounds are gorgeous! It is quiet and relaxing. When we were there it was at ~92% occupancy but felt more like 15%. The accommodations are unique since there are 2 rooms per unit. We never saw or heard our "neighbors" until the last night (7days), and we were in and of our room fairly frequently. The rooms are an adequate size, our mattress was a bit soft for my taste, it was clean and comfortable. (Keep in mind it is not a Hilton or Marriott) The rooms in the 400's I believe to be the best as they are (mostly) tucked in the back of the property.
BEACH: The beach is across the street (initially this was disappointing, however really wasn't that big of a deal) and there is always a guard to assist in stopping traffic so you can cross. There were plenty of beach chairs, nice shady spots, beach bar and grill (jerk chicken and cajun seasoned red snapper were our daily lunch choices!!), bathrooms and outside showers as well. There are peddlers that will approach you initially however, unlike Mexico, they do not bother you after that initial approach. There is a pool, however we never utilized it.
FOOD:The food at the buffet was mediocre, although the omelette station was very nice. We never ate at the buffet for lunch b/c the beach grill offered so good food. The food at the chef's table was excellent (and what we are accustomed to) and the Lotus restaurant was good but not excellent.
STAFF: The majority of the staff were friendly and very helpful, they work very hard!
Opal at the beach grill is the BEST! Tian, Kemp, Melissa, Clive were fabulous bartenders! Shawn, Stacy, Shamoy, Sifford, Dove, Howard and Andrew kitchen staff/servers were all very pleasant and helpful. Front staff Lolita, Octavia and Kadian were all very helpful! Jeff and "blackie" from the beach were great as well.
The gym was a descent size for a resort, typically they are very small, but this one was not.
THE SPA: Denise and Ancha, the staff of the spa (the only 2) are great. The "facility" on the other hand is NOT. In fact there really isn't a "facility" instead there is one small room where they do hair and nails (although my mani /pedi have lasted) I sat on a plastic lawn chair w/ a "foot tub" that you would have at your own home...NOT spa quality but spa prices! The area where they do massage is in a elevated "hut" w/ sheer curtains -where you change and get on the table....AND the tennis courts are right next to this, as is a walk way. I am a spa junkie and was VERY disappointed by the "spa facilities" but not the staff. Denise did my massage and it was great and Ancha did the mani/pedi which as I said lasted!

Room Tip: request a room in the 400 section
