Sunset is the best all inclusive in the area, particularly for a honeymoon/romantic getaway. The staff is fantastic. The grounds are beautiful. The Lotus Leaf restaurant is delicious. The cabins are peaceful. If possible, try to get a cabin away from the road and outdoor public areas but you will be pleased no matter what. The advantages of this smaller resort far exceed the overwhelming and fairly superficial environment of the larger, neighboring resorts. It was our first trip to Jamaica and we want to go back to this resort in addition to a few nights at a guest house in town, which are numerous but not well publicized.

Also recommend a day tour with Randy, AKA "John Wayne" and the One Love Pub crawl. Get out and explore using Sunset as a friendly, easy home base. Can't wait to return.

Room Tip: If possible, try to get a cabin away from the road and outdoor public areas. Remembering that cabins...

Satp is a little bit of heaven! If u want a loud huge concrete resort, this is not the place for you! Small, personal, beautiful, friendly staff, clean, good food!! We loved it! And the beach........ Wow! We spent our first week in Montego Bay and thought it was wonderful, until we got to negril!! The walk to the beach is minor!! I've heard people complain that the beach is across the street and bugs were so bad, puhleeze!!! It took 3 minutes to get to the beach from our resort! It took much longer to get to the beach from our room in the huge resort the previous week!! And bring bug spray!! Not a big deal!! Definitely going to return!!!

We returned from SATP on Dec 12 after a 1 wk stay. 5th time back and came home stress free. Staff are amazing. They remember us every time. Treated with respect which they received from us. Food is good. Lotus Leaf is good. Small portions and slow service, but who's in a hurry. Hands out to Ms. Shirley who oversee the resort. She is a very nice lady. Thanks to Liar, Opal, Alvin, and Sifford. They are truly sincere people. Beach is remarkable. Warm, calm water. Visit the Office of Nature for fresh lobster. This a beautiful resort with many updates going on throughout the property. Can't wait to go back. Please tip the staff. They work hard to make this resort always a pleasure to return to. See you soon.

Room Tip: Ask for a fridge if you like to keep cold beverages in your room. We bring a case of canadian beer w...

Traveled as a couple the third week of December. This resort has been of interest to us for some time but the pricing has been the only thing holding us back until this week was available at a historically low price.
I will start off with a few comments on Negril that may be of benefit to travellers not familiar to the area. Beaches along Bloody Bay and 7 Mile are beautiful and the sea is generally very calm for water sports and swimming. The ride from the airport in Montego Bay is going to be long so grab a couple of Red Stripe before you board and don't worry bout a ting. If the driver is somewhat observant of traffic laws it is a 2 hr + trip but great views of the coast. Sunwing as usual had mass confusion on which bus to board... oh well one more Red Stripe. Our return trip to the airport was cut to 1hr 45 min but our driver had visions of becoming a formula one driver, ok but not for the faint of heart. Beach pedlars were on average easy to manage and if they overstayed their welcome at all, security was very observant and simply strolled a little closer to speed up the move on. Beach musicians are talented and very appreciative of a buck or two for their efforts. If you want to not be bothered at all simply stay back from the front row of beach lounging. Pedlars don't cross the high water point on the beach unless invited.
Now for the resort. This is a very unique resort as to the " tree house" duplex layout. Rooms are adequate, comfortable beds, a/c good and a ceiling fan. Rooms shows signs of age and the construction was not great to start but not an issue.. I can't drywall either ! Resort has only 85 rooms with lush vegetation surrounding all the grounds immaculately kept. The lush vegetation does however contribute to biting insects. A few reviews stated bug bites not to be a issue at this time of year. We had opposite results. While I had very few bites my wife had dozens so until a study is completed on which perfume or lotions they prefer bring repellent. Rooms have screened windows with wooden shutters and are not very sound proof. If you are a light sleeper bothered by traffic noise or a chorus of tree frogs be warned. If your significant other is vocally appreciative be prepared to share the joy. The rooms do have a kettle to boil water for instant coffee but no coffee maker. A small fridge comes with a single bottle of water " compliments of the management " but it is the last free one you will see. Any further drinks for your room have to be purchased from the gift shop. We do not live in our room so again not a deal breaker. The deck off the end of each room is a great feature. Housekeeping was adequate. I usually leave a small amount of cash ( aside from tip money ) around for bait. Never touched. Rooms were clean although nothing above and beyond was done. Left a large swatted mosquito stuck to the wall in a conspicuous area of the bathroom.... still there when we left.
While the resort is not beachfront the private beach area is large enough to never be crowded. A multitude of loungers cheerfully placed to your satisfaction by staff every day! The short walk across Norman Manley Boulevard which is the main busy street is always escorted by a crossing guard so no worries if you have had too much liquid courage.
Found the staff service to be above average and very friendly in all areas of the resort.
Food at the buffet was always good although lacking in variety to larger resorts. The beach grill was excellent with a large variety of choices rivaling many large resorts.
Entertainment was very good for a small resort with a good mix of local talent.

So after this short story... the weak links that keep this resort from being a 4-5 star rating.
While room service is not a major thing for us high end resorts offer it. This resort is for the most part is overstaffed which is good but could easily fit in room service for the few that use it.
Stock the fridge with beer, water at a minimum. Put in coffee makers. Forget about towel cards. Clients at higher end resorts don't steal towels. There is no bar waiter service offered. Again not a necessity but if we are comparing to other resorts it is an easy addition because of the slow pace of this location. At least 50% of the visible staff spend their days interacting with guests anyway. There is no snack bar so if you are a late arrival there are no food options.

The trade off for reduced "high end" service is the small hometown feel of this resort. For even the mildly outgoing traveller you will know a lot of good people after a few days. A unique experience which is unlike large resort settings. If you are a party animal go to a different resort. Would we return. Yes... if priced accordingly. The high season pricing here in my opinion is too high even for Negril which it generally overpriced compared to other destinations.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the highway are quieter. Because of the resort size access is good in all areas. Giv...

We spent 5 nights at SATP the first week of December. This was our first time in negril. The resort is exactly as the reviews describe it. It's quiet and peaceful. The staff make it an amazing experience. Kemp, Leonardo, Darian, Clive and all others make it so much fun. Use Lloyd's taxi service. He went out of his way to show us negril. Didn't ask for anymore money than we had decided on. Met some great people. Ryan/Lexi from Iowa and Nate/Christy from California. Glad we shared this vacation with you.

Decent property but service is only fair. Food is good but menu is limited. The beach is across the road so this is not a beachfront property. We had one major issue: three small paintings we purchased from a beach vendor went missing from our room. I believe that housekeeping probably took them as garbage since they were in a plastic bag. When we brought this to the attention of the hotel manager she adamantly refused to believe that this could have happened and flat out refused to do anything at all to remedy our dissatisfaction. The following day we went out as usual and when we returned to our room the air conditioning had been turned off, the room was not cleaned and the patio door had been left unlocked - this felt like housekeeping showing their annoyance with us. Unfortunately this really spoiled an otherwise nice vacation. Love the beach but next time will go to a different property. Wouldn't recommend this hotel mostly because they don't really seem to give a damn about the guests.

I truly enjoyed my stay at Sunset at the Palms. Everyone was so friendly and went above and beyond to make sure my beau and I were accommodated in every way. The food was AMAZING thanks to Ms. Opal on the grill at the beach and also for the head chef of the Lotus Leaf whose name I forgot. This was our first time in Jamaica and we are so delighted that we chose this hotel. The tree house style accommodations really make you feel apart of the island and the gardeners keep the grounds so beautiful. I can go on and on about my stay here. We are planning to make this an annual trip :)
